  • Many Indonesian women do not want to live abroad, in a Western country. Many of them prefer to stay home, in Indonesia. Their family and parents are there and the girls want to stay close to them.

I am Indonesian, been working in Europe for 16 years. Honestly, It's "weird" in here, it's kinda boring, no smiley people, negative thinkings, complaining all the time. They have everything but they seem unhappy. I am scared of them 😂😂😂😂 16 years and I am still questioning why. It needs strength for Indonesian to live in Europe, mentally. I am staying because of the benefits of working here which is waaaaay better than in Indonesia. Well, there is no perfect place on earth. Important to respect the place we live in, take only the positives things and learn from it. Never forget your culture, different is good. I MISS INDONESIA, every bit of me!! My body is in Europe, my soul is in Indonesia.

@@shinomdc291 Say whattt.... Being a genius has no relation whether one loves to smile or not.. gosh..what the heck.
Smile related to happiness, joy and being grateful.
I lived in Singapore for 10 years, then 4 years now in Germany. When I was living in Singapore, I often went back to do a voluntary program "Indonesia Mengajar", in Jember, Toba Samosir, Natuna, Raja Ampat, etc. You know moments that I love the most are the human interactions (school kids/other volunteers) and the quiet times in the afternoon by the sea side/lake side/paddy field side. Enjoying the moment when you know you work hard for the day and it is time to rest. What is not to love in Indonesia when in the morning you open your window, you could see either the majestic mountain or the huge and wide ocean. You go to the market, and you see 1001 options of fishes from sea or from lake (ikan segar yg blom lewat tahap frozen), cheap exotic fruits and vegetables. Just go to any supermarket in Europe and you will see how limited the options for fishes/seafood/fruits/vegetables are (esp in winter). Not to mention how expensive they are.
When I look and compare...the western society and Indonesians... As the poster above said... Western people tend to smile a lot less...because sometimes it is cold outside 0°C, and people just want to go back home avoiding the cold. And western society relies A LOT on the government. Any issues, they want the government to solve it, as if it is not their issue in the first place. Meanwhile in Indonesia, we all realize that you sometimes cannot rely on the government, but you can rely on your family and neighbour. It is the old and the most basic social safety net before the government exists.
Even my housemates felt surprised when I told them that when I was in school in Indonesia if one lost parents, then the whole school would unite, collect money, go to the funeral and give the money to the family. And when there is a disaster in one area, it doesn't matter whether it's schools/campuses/offices/mosques/churches/house complexes, we all would scramble to donate whatever we can to help. We rely less on the government's relief. This is what I rarely see in western society and it is what makes them seem so "cold/selfish".

I once read a report that more than 90% of Indonesians who work abroad prefer to return to their homeland once their job is finished. This is interesting because unlike Filipinos, Indians, or Pakistanis who see their new country as permanent home, Indonesians see it as temporary working place. So not only Indonesian women but also Indonesian men.

There are reasons for that... Me as an Indonesia once working in Malaysia, eventhough it's not western country and still in South East Asia and more developed one, I still prefer my country. Because our people are the most kind and chill people you will ever meet, smile more and less stress, food and living cost are cheaper than any other countries. Basically it's a paradise on Earth.

My mother is Arab Indonesian, her parents were immigrants from Yemen who obtained Indonesian citizenship before she was born. She was born and raised in Jakarta, and later married my father (he is Saudi), but refused to change her nationality and still kept her Indonesian citizenship until she died…which is baffling, you’d think that she’d be eager to take on the nationality for ethnic reasons, since she’s an Arab herself, but having being born and raised in Indonesia, she sees herself as more Indonesian than Middle Eastern and we were always vacationing in Jakarta every year when she was alive. I still visit Jakarta every few years, the food there is amazing and people are so friendly and welcoming.

As much as I enjoy living any working in another country, I feel isolated and lonely sometimes. How I can’t not ? I could walked miles in our neighborhood but we don’t talk to each other. Once I tried to make friends with them by making small appetizers and shared with them. They responded with thank yous then shut their doors. The next day, we back to our routine as usual. Nodded our heads as greeting but that’s it. 😂 No one visited you when you sick let alone bringing you food. 😂 you have no social life except working in order to pay the bills.

Indonesian is different than Pinay or Thai for sure. Even the migrant workers or International students they're willing to go home after everything has done and starting to build their country. So thats why Indo migrants in the western world is so very small number if you have compared to other Asian migrants like from China, India, Phillipines, Thailand etc

When I applied for US tourist visa, I got it without even showing my bank account because of 1 answer. The officer said " with your awards and experiences you could easily get a job in the US and not return to Indonesia. He was the most strict officer at that tine from what I observed during almost 1 hour I was there. So I said ya sure I knew it, but that's also the reason why I would rather open my own business here and help fellow Indonesians rather than working in the US. I also asked him something which made him saying yes indonesians are nicer than people from other country where I studied at ( when he saw I graduated from a univ abroad). He finally said he agreed with everything I said about Indonesia and why I prefer to stay here.
Indonesia is not perfect, some peeple are nice, some are bad. But to be honest, what I missd the most about indonesia when I stayed or went abroad, is the nice strangers I could talk to on the bus, in traditional market, on the street. Also our foods especially as I am a minang (if you ever heard about rendangl, it's our traditional food).

Talking about wealthy let me explain us as Indonesian no matter how poor we still own houses and rice fields and we still grow fruits around the house we only pay for electricity bills and cheap taxes for our motorcycles. We don’t like processed food or frozen food that most of westerners eat we love fresh food and our society are much friendlier and we take care to each other that’s all. I’ve been working as a nanny for western families still not get me interested to have western life style.

😂 My parents didn't even pay the tax for one of their motorcycles. It was already due for 4 years. After retirement, they moved back to our village and started farming just to spend time. They told me... it's 1.5 hours to the closest city (Pematang Siantar), and there is no police patrol...we also rarely go to the city. We have a once-a-week market 20 mins walking from our home. So basically..the motorcycle will not be caught by the police. If we really have to go to the city, we will use the other one, the one which tax we pay regularly.
And my parents have durian, avocado, soursop, banana trees all around their field. They also raise free-range chickens and have a small pool for Lele fish at the back of the house. I'd say... they're living the life...😎

I lived in Singapore for 10 years, then moved to Germany for 4 years, currently on a break to decide whether I'm going to stay or back to Indonesia.
One thing I notice in western country, they have rules for EVERYTHING. This is very good to prevent corruption/bribery. But this makes the society and interactions between its members kind of lost its humanity, friendliness and tolerance.
For exp: once, my parents had to use public transportation and politely asked the driver for help if he could just take them back directly to our house, otherwise they would need to walk for 20 mins (by car, it's only 5 mins), since it was raining and my parents are quite old, the driver agreed and the other passengers also understood. My parents also added a bit more money as transport fee.
This will NEVER happen in Germany or Singapore. 😅
And also, marriage is the union of 2 families. Even in my tribe, Batak tribe, wedding celebrations are considered as the parent's affair (only the celebrations not the bride/groom option). It is still the parents responsibility to pay for the wedding and sending out invitations. Cause the parents know who their relatives are (according to traditions). This is why lots of Batak couples visit weddings of other families (if invited), cause one day they will also have wedding celebration and they would want people to come.

Indonesia is a great place with lovely, lively, open and warm people. Also, amazing food, culture, loveable language etc. I never met any wealthy Indonesian - and they do exist in plenty - who would even consider moving away. People only move for better economic prospects, and you can't blame anyone for this. Who wouldn't take the chance to get a better economic future? But of course they'll still miss their home country. It's just so insanely different. Especially in the West it's so easy to feel alone if you're from an Eastern culture.
It's the same for most all Eastern cultures. I've met elderly Indian immigrant women in the US who only migrated to be there for their children - to help out with childcare and to be close to their children and grandchildren - but who feel terribly terribly bored and terribly terribly alone. They miss the chats with the neighbors, the gossip, the bargaining and banter at the market, the lively festival, the weddings, the way it's easy to talk and make a connection human to human.
That's a thing that strikes me as a biggest difference. I don't want to say Westerners are 'cold' - I'm a Westerner myself btw. - but when talking to Westerners there is such a long initial phase that is just a distanced politeness, while in the East you address people as aunty, uncle, son, daughter, and straight away you can address them on an emotional level. The connection between people is just different. It feels less isolated.

This year marks the beginning of my new career journey in Japan, and as I'm at the marriage age, I've found myself being approached by native men quite frequently. One major concern I have about marrying any of them is: do I want to live in Japan forever? While Japan is undeniably safer and purportedly shares similar family-centric values with Indonesia, I can't help but feel that Indonesian culture is highcore family-centric and family is everything to me. Unlike Japanese people, who tend to be hesitant to introduce their partners to their parents early in a relationship (due to shyness etc.), I'm the type to openly discuss my romantic prospects with my family, especially my sister, and I would eagerly embrace the opportunity to meet my partner's family ASAP. Who doesn't wanna get along with their future in laws? Perhaps I'll find someone who shares this sentiment, but either way I want to keep my citizenship. I already miss Indonesia. I miss the small talks with my neighbors; the greeting and smiling at strangers on the street without getting the weird looks.

well after years study and working abroad It cannot be denied that living in Indonesia has a much better quality in terms of mental and happiness as well as security and spirituality. You can directly feel the warmth around you, maybe that's what we miss. Even in rich countries, many people really struggle with their daily lives because life here is so much harder and you can't relax. Many people feel anxious, depressed and lonely about their lives even though they already have good jobs. The only motivation for working abroad is a good income to save so that we can have a comfortable life when we return home. Appreciate and be grateful wherever you are but don't forget where you come from, don't forget your history because that is your valuable identity.

The appointment cannot take place on the same day or within the same month. In this case, Indonesia's health care is better.

Agree with all your points. As much as we can easily be dismissive of the chaos in Indonesia, we cannot forget that Indonesia is their home that they love. A woman's power comes from her social links, and over in the west she loses this. Not everything is better in the west either. For example, a working woman in Indonesia is able to afford a maid to do the housework, but if you marry and pull them back to the west, you can't get one and then as an educated Indonesian, they may resent becoming a maid.

When she was young, she have married & 2 kids, she’s sold clothes in local wet market as she have small clothes shop for over 10y.
Then when mall & online shopping is cheaper & more available, her small bussiness is doom.
She’s working in small private company (candy & jams) for couple years
And fews years ago, she’s working in bars (foreigners & tourist) for 6y

SHES HARDWORKING LADY & FAMILY VALUES LADY NORE THAN ALOT WOMEN OUT THERE!!

My parents migrated to the US from Indonesia and they are became US citizens. I grew up in the US even finished college and worked there. I met my husband in the US and he is Indonesian and in 2014 we got married and I moved to Indonesia with him.
In my honest opinion as a mother, Indonesia is a very cheap place to live IF you don’t have kids. It was so much fun moving to Indonesia and everything was so cheap and I thought women in Indonesia are so lucky to be able to afford pembantu and nanny 24hrs. In the US daycare is expensive. I gave birth in Indonesia but my kids have dual citizenships: US (from me) and Indonesian (from my husband). Before my kids have to go to school it was great raising kids in Indonesia.
But the challenge came once they have to start going to school. I didn’t want my kids to go to sekolah negeri (public schools) in Jakarta. And my kids all speak English since the day they were born. If I put them in private school they still use Bahasa Indonesia in those schools. So our only option was to put them in International…oh I mean inter multicultural Schools. It was fine when they’re still in kindergarden but the price of the school tuition get so expensive once they get to elementary (grade 1 and above). So instead of wasting Ratusan Juta Rupiah for sending our kids to inter multicultural school in Jakarta might as well move back to the US. Thankfully we live in the good neighborhood in the US with a good school district. I decided to take my kids back to my hometown in the US.
Indonesia was so much fun before kids but after I have kids I realize I don’t want to raise my kids in Indonesia. I can’t be selfish and I have to think about my kids future especially their Education. Education is not good in Indonesia and me and my husband cannot afford 3 kids to go to intl school that cost Ratusan Juta when my kids have the RIGHTS to obtain education in the US for free. Why should I put my kids to sekolah negeri di Indonesia when my kids are US citizens and can go to school for free in the US? And all those Ratusan Juta for international school it’s such a waste, I would rather save the money for when my kids go to college.
Before anyone said “but US Education system is bad too…” guys please I grew up in the US so don’t try to fool me. Not all of them are bad it depends on the district. I’m lucky enough that my house happened to be in a good neighborhood so the public school in my zone is not bad. Also I’ve been to public schools and private schools in the US. The private school in the US doesn’t cost as much as the private school in Jakarta and the private school that I went too was top 1 on the state I used to live😂😂

In Indonesia, marriage is widely viewed as a union between two families, not just between two people, trust me there are a lot of cases where they cancelled a marriage just because a groom/bride's family member, offended one of their spouse's family member. So a little addition for foreigners who wish to marry an Indonesian is to also keep your own family in line too, and never ever underestimate family gatherings between yours and your Indonesian love interest's, this generally goes for both Indonesian men and women

    @faleilham8334 29 дней назад +8

There's a alot and various reason why Indonesian can't stand longer living outside their home country. But this is according someone that i used to talk
    1. Food
    2. Religious practices
    3. Parents
    4. Where they were gonna be buried when they die.
    1. Food : Indonesia like anothers country in Asia contingent known to have rich taste of flavor and spices, Indonesian food have a lot spices in it so if the Indonesian who used to live long enough in their country then suddenly moved to country like Germany or Canada, they were complained who badly their food taste is. Because Indonesian known as "The largest Muslim country" Indonesian sometimes can be strict about what they'll gonna eat, in Indonesia you'll rarely gonna finds pork in many markets, maybe if you go to Christian province or Supermarket they sell it. Sometimes supermarket doesn't accomodate pork in there unless there's a demands or how many people gonna buy that.
    2. Religious practices : Indonesia known as "One the largest Muslims Country" no wonders why there's so many people who lived there a Muslim, but yeah there's a lot Christian who lived here too, the reason why Religious practices is important is because many Indonesian valued the religion as their important thing in their lives but some the others view religious practices is just demands from parents, they just don't want to make their parents angry. Many Asia country have strict policy to maintain a tradition, sometimes religious practices are viewed as part of tradition sometimes cultures for their life. I remember when i'm studying abroad in Thailand for 2 month my parents the first question they ask before anything else is they always asking me "Are you doing a Namaz????? (Sholat/Salat depending what you called)" i mean your childs is living in another country why you asking me am i doing Namaz or not??? Why you not asking me about "How you doing??" "Did you find girlfriend over there??" "How is it about the people? Are they really humble to foreigners or they are ignorant towards strangers??"
    3. Parents : There's nothing wrong about parents worrying their kids how they'd been doing, but Indonesian parents just like any Asian sometimes they becames to dramatic even became burdens. I remember when i'm talking to someone in local train station why he quit his job, he says "My parents doesn't want me to live outsides" "Why Not, bor?? I mean you get a great job with good vibes in the offices even they pay you good. Why you quit??" I said then he say "My parents always miss me" although that guy who i met visiting his parents house for 3 or 4th times even managed to get 2 weeks of it still can't satisfy his parents, he telling me that he always asking his parents to come with but both of them always rejecting the offers. His parent always replied "There's nothing better in this world except home, a place where you're born". It's okay if you say that but, as parents you should know how to make your sons/daughter not to worry about when they live abroad.
    4. Where you're gonna be buried when you're die : The reason why so many Indonesian doesn't want to get buried outside their home because their relatives can't visit them. I think because many Indonesian are lives in poor conditions and many Indonesian thinks learning another language beside Natives language and Indonesia just adding another pains for them. Because of that 2 major reason that's why you rarely seeing Indonesian who lives near your area except in crowded city for work. And they lived outside just for working.

@@MinimalistNomad " Rain of rock in our country, is better than rain of gold in another country". This is deeply engraved in fellow Indonesian. No matter how rocky (bat sh1 bad) is our country , it is still better than the gold (wealth, order, development) of other country. Because this is mother land that our patriots have fought for the freedom. And yes, batsh1t can be really bad, we have natural disasters (flood, land slide, forest fire , earthquake) , Ring of Fire volcanoes that goes off every now and then, riots, political fights, they occur and taking turn on monthly or yearly basis 🙈 but love is love and this is homeland.

Indonesian ppl are born in socializing community, the relationship just like spider web, an individual to the family, the family tothe relatives, the relatives to the neighborhood, then to the villages, cities, and then to the country the bond get tighter when they are far away, most of them want to get back to the place where the old memories stay, most
Indonesian ppl love making gathering groups everywhere, they are craving to get stick together😅

It's probably also got something to do with songs that most children are familiar of: Tanah Airku (my homeland) & Desaku (my village).
Both songs are about loving the country & the hometown you grew up in, how you will never forget about it.
Most children are taught these songs since kindergarten & elementary, so maybe, it sort of "programmed" your subconscious mind.

    the reason maybe:
    1. the climate
    2. the culture
    3. the social life

Kita cukup mengambil kedua cara budaya yg positiv sifatnya.
Kami sekeluarga kristen dan aktif dlm kegiatan gereja...beda bergaul dgn bule Atheis dgn Bule kristen yg tdk cuma kristen Ktp.
Semua ini memberi pencerahan dan pandangan baru terhdp bangsa lain.Kami sendiri sekeluarga sangat nyaman dan betah hdp di Jerman.Pulang cuti ke Indonesia juga tdk hrs tiap thn.Semoga bermanfaat

do background check on him, you’ll live miserably if you don’t know his whole situation in his home country. These foreigners, still, don’t have eduquate financial literacy…they live paycheck to paycheck, huge debt only for lifestyle, try to gimd traditional housemate because these women don’t complain…you’ll live in rot if you’re with the wrong person. Please don’t be blinded with living abroad, spare yourself from too much naive.
