I am from Yorkshire England and my Airedale, ‘Hector’ is 14 and still a lunatic! You need a dry sense of humour to share your life with one of these scallywags ! Best friend I have ever had x
THANK YOU!!!!!!! I showed this to my mom over the weekend! Her Pancreatic Cancer caused her real pain for the first time since diagnosis, so it was really rough until she could get some steroids yesterday. This video is something she was asking for, ever since I showed her that your videos exist. She loves Airedales. Also Kerry blue terriers and Irish terriers. This could not have come at a better time. We don't know how much time she has left. 6 months? Less? You do great work!
We lost our beloved Airedale 6 months ago, we miss him dreadfully. He was our second Airedale - once you've had one you will never want any other breed of dog.
I had an Airedale from puppy to his death from disease at 10 years. He was so strong. Built like a truck, Smart but stubborn and would not always listen. He was a good swimmer but didn't really love the water. He would chase things into the lake but wouldn't go just for fun. My lab was a much better swimmer. I miss him so much. I have his best friend, mix of German Shepard and border collie, who belonged to my good friend who passed away 6 years ago. I agree about airedales not starting fights but would never back down. Also agree strongly about socialization. He was at the dog park almost every day
My daughter moved to Texas and lived in the suburbs Soon after moving in a coyote killed their cat. The neighbors told her she would have to be outside with her young children because the coyotes would try for them too. I told her to get an Airedale pup. The pup grew up with them. Nothing was getting past him to hurt them . He even wouldn't let me near them until told I was OK.
@@HarrisonHollers When I went into the yard he put himself between me and my grandchildren and started growling. A big dog warning growl doesn't sound like anything like when they are playing. Even after letting him know I was okay he was still stand offish until They started playing with me. I grew up around big dogs and have had some myself. When I was a child my sister who was only 2 was laying on a blanket with our dog while my mother was hanging up clothes. Our neighbors dog ran around the corner and lunged for my sister. Our dog caught him and within seconds the neighbors dog was dead. It was a coonhound that was valuable and our neighbor wanted dad to pay for it. Dad told him no. Their dog had no business being on our farm and our dog was only doing what it was breed to do .
This is my breed! Love, love, love the Airedale! They require grooming but they are so worth it. They love children and were the true nanny dog. Lots of stories of farmers using these dogs to babysit the kids at the end of the row while the adults worked in the field. Gentle and kind but brave and strong. They held predators at bay until the farmer could get his gun but did not fear the adversary and would attack if need be. Airedales are not slouches. Fun, healthy, wonderful dogs. Very loving dogs.
I'm in the market for a dog. Plan to buy a house within the next year. I'm doing my research and may get an Airedale. My allergies wont allow me to deal with the shedding, but also want a dog that is going to be a protector, family companion and my "eyes-n-ears" when I'm not always on alert. Thoughts?
I was born in Airedale hospital on the Airedale river. In YorkshiRE we say YorkSha. :-) not many about there now! my grandad used to keep em back in the 60s.
Hell yes! An amazing breed. Hopefully the Irish Terrier and/or Manchester Terrier make it on the channel down the road. Brilliant video on a breed that has such a rich history.
Our Airedale male used to wipe his beard against the couch and furniture whenever he was done drinking. He HATED water, which was funny to watch because his mother loved swimming more than she loved toys and treats, instead

Matthijs van Guilder anyone claiming to have ‘Oorang’ blood are puppy peddlers. Walter Lingo (originator of the Oorang line) stopped breeding in the early 1900s. There are Airedales used on Bear to this year
Its used as a backyard breeder excuse to breed excessively large oversized dog aggressive dogs with hung papers that have been cross bred with pointer breeds and giant schnauzers. The original Oorang line can not credibly be traced to any existing lines. And the lines that are claimed as oorang lines are riddled with severe early onset hip and elbow dysplasia, heart problems, and cancer. I know of several breeders that have well rounded dogs that are used on coyotes, bear, feral hogs, trap lines, waterfowl, upland fowl, blood/scent tracking, shed retrieval, and barn clearing yet are also conformation champions that do sports and other work such as water rescue and carting. There is no need to support crap backyard breeders that use manipulative language to try to sell their product.
Why would you want a backyard bred dog with hung paper ancestry thats only purpose is to be excessively large and die of heart problems or cancer at a young age?
I want an airedale sooo bad, but as a young adult in my early 20s I don't think I have the stability to own a dog yet plus I don't know how this breed will fare in a tropical country. :/
Hot temperatures are tough for Airedales because of their thick double coat. If you keep them groomed and if they have access to water for swimming that would work. Our dog loves snow in the winter but also loves to swim in our pool after walks to cool off in the summer. Best dog we've ever had!
There are people that claim to have a working line split. For example redline or oorang breeders. However this is just fancy language to excuse out of standard breeding for size, color, or coat type. And these breeders rarely have any proof of their dogs working abilities. However I know of several reputable breeders that have placed dozens of dogs into homes hunting everything from vermin on a farm to retrieving waterfowl to coyote trap line work to shed retrieval to blood/fur/scent tracking to bear hunting and when they get done they also win championships in conformation and do other sports and work from agility to water rescue to carting to weight pull. The airedale was bred to be a versatile farm dog. There is no reason to have a breed line split when even the "show dogs" are still capable
Some (too many) also pronounce Norwich Nor-WITCH. An assault to the ears. Lol. Of course there are a lot of other words pronounced differently by us that might be more forgivable than place names.

One of our Airedales hated cats( bred to hunt mountain lions). The other adored all our cats. Several slept right on top of him. He loved kittens.
Welsh Terrier came from them. Once I was almost bitten by a Welsh Terrier. Lucky thing I had some type of object in my hand. And made him think twice about engaging but he did turn around more than once and contemplate taking a bite out of me
kaboom362 actually welsh came first. Welsh and otter hound made airedale.
@@Bhouse2939 Black and tan terrier played a big part.
How much would you sell the dogs for,if you're still breeding them??
Are they a cuddly breed? I keep hearing that they aren’t which is why they don’t recommend them for children.
Our two were wonderful with our four children. Great family dogs.
You should do Cavalier King Charles Spaniels
comment on the oorang, large type used on bear?
They are more common in the UK
Do the Wire Fox Terrier please

Please do one on Afghan Hounds!!!! Please!
Anywhere I can get an oorang Airedale?
Why would you want a backyard bred dog with hung paper ancestry thats only purpose is to be excessively large and die of heart problems or cancer at a young age?
UK
I want an airedale sooo bad, but as a young adult in my early 20s I don't think I have the stability to own a dog yet plus I don't know how this breed will fare in a tropical country. :/
Hot temperatures are tough for Airedales because of their thick double coat. If you keep them groomed and if they have access to water for swimming that would work. Our dog loves snow in the winter but also loves to swim in our pool after walks to cool off in the summer. Best dog we've ever had!
Suggestions: Spanish waterdog and the Hungarian Pumi/Mudi/Puli;)
I have an Airedale named Chester who’s almost 2, is 61 pounds, yet unfortunately has hip dysplasia
Is there any working line?
There is no reason to have a breed line split when even the "show dogs" are still capable
the king of terriers... no doubt.. the english bullterrier ..the gladiator.
can you do bite force on all the big dogs video
i love how americans say yorkshire. as someone from england we say it 'york-shear'
Not all Americans pronounce it that way. ;)
Some (too many) also pronounce Norwich Nor-WITCH. An assault to the ears. Lol. Of course there are a lot of other words pronounced differently by us that might be more forgivable than place names.
Looks like a giant Yorkshire Terrier
Would like to see a video on the newfoundland dog at some stage.
