    I like these fully homebrewed scripts. They tend to be very flavourful. But they are not the easiest games to follow on a first pass. Still fun, though

      The only downside is they're often not playtested thoroughly, so they can often be an unbalanced mess. I could, however, easily think of a handful of them I'd suggest. At least a couple I've seen played by other BotC streamers/RUclipsrs.

    This was so hard to follow as my first experience with the script. I imagine it being even harder as a storyteller.
    Am I correct in thinking that Jacqui had been Cleo Chosen on the day Jacqui nominated Chiz to learn that one of Chiz’s neighbors was evil and should have died in the night instead of learning that fact?

    • @TianaJD423
      @TianaJD423 Год назад +7

      Incase you were still curious. Jacqui was nominated by Chiz which let her use her power, but she did not nominate anyone that day so she did not die. I went back and watched it to see. That was the night of no deaths because neither of the Cleo chosen people nominated.
      I agree that it’s very hard to follow 😂

    This gives me some confidence that some of the character's I've been brewing in my personal cauldron aren't that far off in terms of playability.
    .
    For this next block of text the BotC staff might wanna look away for similar reasons why writers don't engage with fanfiction of their own work I guess, because I've got an Outsider that's very similar to the Bad Omen, a Demon and a character throuple where I wanna hear opinions from other players.
    .
    .
    Thrifter (Outsider): You learn a not in play townsfolk. You are mad that you are that character or you might be executed. You might register as that character (even when dead) [+1 Outsider]
    Their purpose is similar to Bad Omen, but they always were intended to have the option to pull the pin and take out their bad info in exchange for forcing a day to end.
    Phantom (Demon): Every day a player dies by execution. Thrice per game, each night*, you choose a player. If they are good they become evil. If they are an Outsider they also become a not in play Minion. [-2 Minions, +1 Outsider]
    The Phantom is meant to be a difficult Demon to play by being a bit of a blend of the Pit Hag's chaos, the Fang Gu's town nerfery via outsiders and the Leviathan's ticking clock, but softened and subtler for balance purposes.
    I am a huuuuge fan of stuff like Grandmother and Evil Twin, so I'll throw in a throuple of characters that I feel can work in most scripts in order of "Wait, I need an explanaition":
    Pest (Minion): One alive good neighbor of yours is poisoned until you or they die. If you poison the Charlatan they die and you become drunk, you cannot poison the Charlatan on the first night. [+1 Charlatan]
    Charlatan (Outsider): You think you are the Apothecary but you are not. Each night, choose a player. If they are the Pest they die tomorrow, if they are Townsfolk they become drunk. If the Pest dies this way you become the Apothecary. [-1 Apothecary]
    Apothecary(Townsfolk): Each night, choose a player. They are sober and healthy until dusk.

    I'm kinda curious, I think I remember Ben saying in one of the NRB games that the specific wording of the Monk's ability being "is safe from the demon"" meant the player they chose was also safe from the effects and other abilities of demons. Has this been changed to just attacks or should Kohav as the Centurion not have been able to die because she was "safe" on the first night when chosen?

    • @whocares2277

    @44:00, wait isn't "The demon is an even number of steps away from JC" a non-statement in the context of a twelve-player game. Going clockwise, Jacqui kohov, jojo, Nicky, Ekin, and Aggie are 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 steps away. But, going anti-clockwise, Clown, Chiz, Malakai, Shade, Debbie, and JC are 2, 4, etc steps away.
    And that's everyone in the grim, innit? Complete non-statement.

    • @stephenberg6438
      @stephenberg6438 Год назад +12

      It's reasonable to assume they meant Clockmaker steps, i.e. the shortest path.
      Edit because I just counted: also no, in a 12-player game the parity is the same regardless of which direction you pick. Aggie is 1 step from JC counterclockwise and 11 steps clockwise. The question splits the Grim in two no matter what.

      Or use them as one-off Amnesiac abilities. Though they would need to be tweeked slightly to fit with current script characters. Also may be enough change to not be completely stealing the idea anyways.

    • @BloodontheClocktower
      @BloodontheClocktower  Год назад +2

      While a lovely idea, because of how manufacturing works it actually costs a lot more than people realise to produce this and therefore wouldn't be feasible/affordable for such a small company to produce (what I assume would be) a fairly small run of token sheets. It's for this reason that we've always been hands-off with folks who build their own grimoires/token sheets. - Ben

    • @Zedja
      @Zedja Год назад

      @@BloodontheClocktower That's understandable, but that doesn't leave out the option to get permission to use those custom roles together with the more standard ones on a custom script.
      Doesn't mean the roles have to be officially released to do that or you wouldn't have played this script on stream in the first place.

    • @mawillix2018

      Short Answer: The player they learn, becomes the sculpture.
      Long Answer: They have to learn "a player". IF they could "falsely" learn a player, the rest of the Sculptor's ability refers to the player they incorrectly learnt.

    Budding Storyteller here - fairly confident with Trouble Brewing, dipping my toe in other scripts.
    Enjoyed the viewing as always, but admit that I have some troubles with the Script. Maybe it was lack of familiarity but the evil side seemed weak.
    The Glycon ability may be strong but appeared to be worthless here. Did it ever do anything? Would it be a better ability if the 'detect as good' be better as 'detect as good even if dead'? Also, they chose to give a 3 when Debbie 'could register as Evil'. What was the reason behind this? Was it to make Chiz not trust his information? To that point all his info was believable.
    I know that JC had already nominated Aggie but if he hadn't, could he have nominated Clown, made Clown drunk and then not had a rock-paper-scissors? Just a thought on how a Glykon might play to hold back nominating so that they could protect against this (of course also guessing that a Gladiator is in play). I admit I don't love the rock-paper-scissors mechanic either (even with the Psychopath).
    Interesting take on the Demona: Cleopatra was interesting but I imagine frustrating to play - are there rules to have a minimum player count to use her (is that even needed)? Crassus I don't like but would have to watch a play with it to understand better. I don't really understand Hannibal - would each player get a 'good' role to be that never does anything because they are actually the Hannibal? Does the remaining Hannibal after a Hannibal death know that they are evil then? If two Hannibals and a Minion survive to the day of 3 alive does evil win or are they allowed to try to kill each other (just did the math and clearly time to call the win because either Hannibal death is a win for evil and a Minion death leads to 2 alive with a demon alive). Do the Minions know who their Demons are (which would be cool because they wouldn't necessarily what to tell them because as soon as they did when one died it would know - so maybe a strategy is to tell one and try to ride that train to victory). The Hannibal is growing on me more for the Minion interactions than anything else.
    Love the Caesar.
    The best roles:
    Winemaker, Temptress, Augur, Physician, Blacksmith - I think all of these roles (plus Ceasar) could be put in no Rome scripts unchanged.
