good idea to put a sock around the brake calipers so they don't trash the paint.

Thank you for the refresher, it's been 40 years since I took a front wheel off. I use to do it blind folded.

Good video!! The bolts that hold the calipers are 12pt not 16pt. Just a friendly FYI

      +N1AGE - Thanks!
:-) Still 10mm though on that SAE bike... I like all of the metric hex bolts, too.
Reminds me that Harley is still playing catch up to Japan.
I just did a 2014 FLHSTMPULR last week... A lot of Metric bolts on that, too.
But at least the last HD shop tightened down his bolts properly.

I am changing the Front Wheel on my 06 FLHXi .. installing the Front Wheel from a '15 FLHX, bought the correct size spacers to allow for the narrower Wheel. My question #1 is , the last time I changed out a wheel , there was something about putting a small piece of Cardboard or something in the BRAKE LEVER.. This video did not mention anything liker that ... Did I miss something , or is that a function that is not needed anymore ? Question #2 ) The '15 Wheel has the ABS Bearing. My '06 does not have ABS. Is that gonna make any difference at all ? Thanks for any help !!

I have an 2006 Ultra and had owned it since new. This last week I was on a ride and I had what I thought was a front tire blow out. Fortunately I had reduced my speed and was able to get off the road safely. The tire appeared flat but no damage was visible. Upon closer inspection the valve core and valve cap were missing. I had someone get me a valve core and replaced it and the cap. I rode 100 more miles that day and it did it again. No visible damage but again valve core and cap gone? Any ideas?? I talked to some
tire guys and they say they have never seen that.

I’d recommend replacing the valve stem. Probably pulled threads although I have never seen it

I ended up changing my tire out by myself. I just noticed my tire looks crooked and not even with the fender. Something I did wrong? Over tighten? I have on 09 street glide. Looks same as what I saw on yours

The spacers are different sizes, and the larger one goes on the right side where the cap is .

any specific type of sealant or grease used on the axle?

    • @RideWNC
      @RideWNC  8 лет назад +1

Since the axle on a HD is exposed to all weather, I would use marine grease. Anything water resistant.
Marine grease is usually my go to grease. It will hold up best until the next tire change.

As soon as you used the wrong socket. I stopped watching.

    • @RideWNC

What wrong socket? The Harley specialty tool to remove the caliper bolts?
You should not be upset that the bolt is actually a 16 point 10mm. A lot of Harley parts come from Japan and Mexico.
I know, I know - Mexico is in America. So in your mind that justifies American made... (Shaking head.)
Besides, all of the best bikes are metric. Someday Harley Davidson will catch up to technology.

You can use a wrench 16pt
