    I am very excited for all these developments. I think the riverfront development is my favorite since I frequent it a lot. They are already rapidly building new apartments there but I want to see more commercial development, as a lot of that land isn't used.

      Well, if KC does not build a new stadium they will eventually lose the team. How much would you pay to have the team go to Nashville?
      Kauffman is an amazing stadium…that is inconvenient to 70% of the metro area with disposable income to go to a game. The Royals need 20,000+ a game in attendance to be competitive. They currently rank 28th in attendance…out of 30. Downtown or in NE JoCo they would average 23-25K a game, which would generate an extra $70 million in team revenue per year, easily. That would keep the team profitably competitive for a long time.
      The current location of Kauffman is terrible, logistically speaking, and if the vote fails, the Royals are gone. The city will have decided to let them go.
      Johnson County will probably find a way to move the team there…how does that make you feel? The Overland Park Royals?
      Get used to it. Either that or Nashville…

      @mandoreforger6999 that's ridiculous. It's the kc royals. They can't move. They either bring in more attedance or die here. However, it is even more ridiculous taxdollars pays for a privately owned business. Do we pay for McDonald's grills and whatnot? Do we pay for JE dunns trucks? Why are we paying for corporate overhead? Make them pay for it. Ya know like everyone else has to.

    For those keeping score at home, it took less than 90 days for the Royals to get another offer from somewhere else after the stadium vote failed. There are currently zero cranes in downtown KC, and all momentum from the last 20 years has completely gone away. Amazing to watch voters vote against their own self interests.

      I’m not sure what you mean really. P&L has played a pivotal role in the resurgence of Kansas City’s downtown. It still has a ways to go, but there’s a lot of momentum building between the streetcar and south loop project. Neither of which would be possibilities had power and light not been developed.

They could have used that money to fix potholes and for other city services not just build attractions that don’t bring in revenue for the city. I don't live in KC and haven't for a number of years so for what it's worth...I thought the Royals were all about getting downtown when they first started talking of a new ballpark and now they're discussing NKC. I understand it might be cheaper to build up north but if you aren't going to go downtown...and you're just gonna move a bit closer, just stay out at the sports complex. I never understood why the city/county didn't ever try to develop that area in the first place. And just for my own knowledge, why is the ferris wheel only 150 ft? Why don't they go the full 200 to be on par with St Louis? Just some rants...great video!

    • @movingtokc
      @movingtokc  11 месяцев назад +4

      I think it’s more of North KC trying to win the Royals over that the Royals wanting a ballpark in NKC. East village makes the most sense to me if they can work out the financials. There’s literally nothing there except for parking lots. It would be a huge addition to downtown.
      The location might be the reason for the wheel’s size. Many Kansas Citians have expressed their dismay about the site, but I think it’s a great addition and is making use of a space that has otherwise sat vacant for years.
      Thanks for watching!

    As far as a new royals stadium that’s tough but think true downtown is the way to go. I will miss Kauffman and the ease of going to a game. Downtown baseball can change a city’s direction tho. Look at Denver

Or perhaps Country Club Plaza? Have you done a segment on CCP? I heard that it was recently purchased and will be undergoing some changes.

      Hi Lynne! Have you watched my West Plaza or South plaza neighborhood tours? You definitely don’t need to restrict yourself to the suburbs. There are a lot of great options around the Plaza. It is currently under contract to be sold to the owners of Highland Park in Dallas. They’re still in the due diligence phase so not a done deal quite yet.

    Downtown sports stadiums are historically a great call for a city. Having to foot the bill for a mediocre to terrible baseball team is not awesome, but it would be so nice to hang out at a some of the cocktail bars/breweries near and around downtown and stroll into a Royals game. Definitely preferred over the weird quiet admission of people routinely drunk driving home from Kauffman today.
