  • You can actually use AV1 on RUclips? But how do you turn on AV1 on RUclips? And how does the AV1 codec improve your RUclips experience? Well in this RUclips tutorial and benchmarking video, let's go over how to get AV1 codec on RUclips, what the AV1 RUclips settings do, and let's settle the RUclips VP9 vs AV1 debate.

AV1 quality is actually a lot better at 3.5Mbps. Not sure how youtube compresses things, but definitely with my intel GPU using AV1 my streams at 3.5Mbps look way better than they used to

Only the newest graphics processors have hardware decoding support for AV1. Without that, using AV1 will result in significant CPU usage.

not true. i have a gtx 960, which came out in 2014-2015. i'm also on an intel i3-6100. my setting is set to "auto" and youtube still uses AV1 on occasion, vp09 on other occasions. interestingly, this page's videos do vp09. i think some data centers carry specific videos in one format or another, because i have like 5 youtube tabs open right now, and another tab's videos are all going through as AV1. it might also be that only one tab will use AV1 at a time, i'm not sure. i'll change the setting to only use AV1 and see what happens.

AV1 hardware Decoding and Encoding is only supported on the latest graphics cards (integrated or stand alone). AV1 will work on older hardware but the decoding will be done by the CPU, most likely using the AVX2 instruction set. Stick to the h264 or VP9 on older hardware.

4K or 8K 60fps HDR video AV1 is for streaming online due to good quality, high resolution, high frame rate, and the smallest bandwidth over H264, H265, VP9. Handbrake fast converts a AV1 video on my M1 MacBook Pro 13" (8-core GPU) up to 50% small file size compare to H264 video.

I need to know how to do the opposite. AV1 is so new most hardware (including mine) doesn't have AV1 support, meaning way higher CPU usage. Okay cool the bandwidth is a bit lower, but bandwidth is way cheaper now and a lot of people have 100+ mbps connections, while an average 1080p youtube video needs, like 15?

Then click the main string page so it highlights something to search too, press ctrl+f, find the "find by string search bar" type in "av1" look for the "hidden" text string, double click to change it, delete it and av1 setting should show up!! woohoo party for some videos lol

one drowback would be if it is taxing on hardware. it might be hard on powerconsumption. that mostly a consern on laptop running on battery do. less bandwith would result in less power from the network card but i dout it will make a driffrens.
hardware decoder might solve this do.
