The Fujinon 90mm is the better lens in this fight. But at what cost? Double the price, double the quality? Not exactly, but the 90mm comes with its perks. Although the Viltrox 85mm is not bad at all.

Think the new 75mm Viltrox with weather sealing is the no-brainer now. If only it was in stock anywhere...
Yep, they only made 50 pre order units that went away sooooo fast! Anyway when I was making the video I had no idea the 75mm was coming. It looks pretty damn good. I think it's the first time Viltrox makes a weather sealed lens.
You have nothing to regret, I gave up the 56 mm 1.2 for Viltrox 75 mm 1.2, now I regret the choice made.
I try to save money when I can. I went for the 18-55 instead of the 16-55 because I don't shoot zooms so often...When my Fuji 35 f2 stopped auto focusing, I needed a quick fix at this FL, so when I saw a Viltrox 33 for $200 on Ebay, I couldn't resist. I thought it would be just to hold me over until I could get something 'better', but it's become one of my favorite 'go to' lenses... However, when it came time to decide between the Fuji 90 and the Viltrox 85, I spent the money and got the Fuji, as this is my most used focal length. Man, what a lens, as good as any I've ever used including the legendary Canon 135 f2L. Sharp, fast accurate AF, great colors and rendering, stunning images. But at the end of the day, you're right, no one will notice the difference. Nice video, keep up the good work!
I used to have the 18-55 too, but I sold it. I got the 16-55, and it is pretty bulkier, and definitely heavier, but whenever I shoot client events with it, I'm reminded what a good quality lens it is. The image quality, especially in low light, is so much better. I totally agree with you about the 90 though! It is a beast of a lens! Although, I wonder how the 75 mm viltrox performs... Anyway, thanks for the well thought comment and for watching the video.
@ It took me about 6 months to decide on a zoom, lol, there are quite a few choices all with their pluses and minuses. I just prefer primes and would rather go with a 2 camera 2 prime set up (spider holster makes this pretty easy to do). I'm still rockin the X-T2 so image stabilization was a big factor. I could definitely see a 16-55 in my future though
I think that the Viltrox has a much better price, proportionally. Yes, who cares about that difference if you have a very good sensor like fuji's ? May be some people, not me. With the Fuji X-H1, the weight and size of the Viltrox is very wellcomed, compared to Fuji 90mm. No aperture ring, it's a pity, but it's not so important just a question of charm for me. Actually, I find more convenient to use the body. Thanks for the very nice video !
Yeah, it's more a thing of how goot it looks and the charm of the FujiFilm gear that feels different in the hand but generally you don't notice that much of a difference if you don't pixel peep. That being said the 90mm is superior though, it's in the small things.
If you photographed for a long time like I have, the 90F2 is the one I would go for. it has a longer reach, which is what I’m looking for and still be compact. It also has weather sealing when I’m out in the mountains and it’s perfect for street photography.
If you’re going for portraits, I would get the 56 1.2 instead.
Hi Simon! Interesting point of view. The reach is not that big of a deal for me but the weather sealing and the LM are. Also overall image quality and contrast are better on the Fuji. For portraiture I still prefer the 85-90(135 FF) focal length. For some reason I feel more comfortable with it and people too as I don't get too close to them especially when I shoot street portraits. I tested the old 56 1.2 and is pretty slow and not always precise in autofocus, and makes a ton of noise. It's still a rather good lens but I would not buy. I haven't really tested the new one so I can't express myself on that but I would still prefer a longer focal length for portraits. It's a matter of taste. Why do you prefer the 56mm?
What camera lens are you using for this video? Great review btw.. The price makes the difference to be honest.
Hi Samuel! Thanks for watching and commenting. I used both the 16-55 and the 23mm F1.4 LM to shoot the video. The talking head part was shot mainly with the 16-55. Some broll shots were shot with the 23mm and other with the 16-55. There are a few seconds of footage shot with an adapted helios 58 F2
I recently got this lens. And oh boy, it is really good. I should have purchased it since I started my journey in photography
It really is! And it is a great choice. Although, I recently bought the Viltrox 75mm F1.2 and I must say it is pretty damn good. The quality is amazing! I'll post a video prbably next week. Hey thanks for commenting and watching!
@ The 75/1.2 is the best purchase I made with photography. Just make sure to update to v1.0.2 firmware!
Have ever done a review about the early fujifilm cameras?. For example, X-T1 or E-X2s.
Nope, never had the chance, the oldest Fujifilm camera I reviewed is the Fujifilm x100F: ruclips.net/video/U7tv2FF3X4Y/видео.htmlsi=ucUSJ6BnIQMOLh08
If i put a cpl filter on the viltrox, would i still be able to put the lens hood that came with it on? Btw! Love the comparison video!
To be honest I'm not sure. I have never used any filter with the Viltrox. Hey thanks so much for wathcing and commenting!
Secondhand market is the place to buy both lenses.
Yep definitley! Especially since the Fujinon is pretty old now.
Absolutely- got mine for 200€ and for this price it’s worth it..
XT 200 will support viltrox 85 mm
what do you mean? it should already support it... I mean it's a X-Mount lens for X-mount cameras
Fuji 90mm F2 wins all the way !
It depends on the budget as well. Even used it is more expensive.
Fuji 90 mm f2 is a thousand light years away from Viltrox 85 mm 1.8
I agree is better but not sooooo much better. You can get pretty similar results. What makes you say it is a thousand light years away
Who uses 85mm for videos anyway
I do, I use it when I cover events to shoot a different tipe of angle and get more compression. Clients always like it.
Viltrox 75!
If only it was available!!!
