I'm telling you he is freestyling, there are zero tabs out there. He picks up the guitar and make it speak, I feels like he has open himself to the universe. He like a monk who reach nirvana.

One hundred percent a freestyle . I can almost isolate the crazy chord progressions but it's impossible unless I am playing along with him. It's the weirdest thing ever as a musician to only be able to play along with someone and then have amnesia while trying it by yourself!!

He speaks through his music. He is a great composer, no one like him. You can transcribe emotions from his music just like the greats. Each song tells of a story, of love, of pain, of mindfulness...
My humble opinion....Estas Tonne, the best of the best! Classically trained, in full command of the strings. Incorporating musical essences from around the world, the master of acoustic improvisation. May you go on creating in good health.

He's absolutely amazing, but this has nothing to do with how the Elves would play... Especially Tolkien's Elves.
Almost all the music in the Tolkien from the Silmarillon on is A Capella. The Valar sang the world in to existence, Luthian, Finrod, and Bombadil all used magical song to fight their respective baddies.
There was some mention of instruments, I am pretty sure that ( I think it was) Maglor played a harp when he rescued his brother from Angband. Also I seem to recall pieces of poetry througout the work that refer to instruments ( In Gimli's poem about Moria - " unwearied then were durins folk, beneath the mountains music woke and harpers harped and minstrels sang, and at the gates the trumpets rang" of course this is dwarves) In Pippen's ( I think it was) song at the Prancing Pony, "the ostler has a tipsy cat that plays a five string fiddle." "Gilgaled was an elven king of him the harpers sadly sing...", I'm sure there are many such example. I also seem to recall that when the news that Sauron had falled was brought to minas tirith the joy of the city was expressed in the blowing of trumpets and the ringing of bells.
Clearly there were a lot of harps and trumpets around, but the things that are specifically from the elves seem to be most often just voice or voice and harp.
If you really want to know, I would scan the chapter in the Fellowship regarding the feast the night before the council of Elrond and perhaps the chapter of the Hobbit where Bilbo is hiding in the elf kings halls in Mirkwood.
( by the way, most of the elves music seems to be hymns to the valar or in praise of their creation or laments for the sorrow of the elves in middle earth, we are told they have songs of merriment, but really don't have examples other than perhaps the song that the dockworkers sing in the hobbit when they dump the wine barrels in the river.)
Oh, I know all of that. I just meant I don't imagine elves having this kind of sonority and rhythm, that's all.
*said in that dusky low western narrator voice* Let me tell you the legend of Estas Tonne. I happened upon him the square, guitar in hand, just a few passer by's and I. His melody captivated me so I stayed awhile. Before I realized I was hypnotized, with his wordless lyrics I came surprised at the crowd that had grown from just my own curiosity to people blocking the entirety of the street. As he played the people swayed and my mind wondered if he would ever stop. This modern day hombre changed the world even only for a moment, like Dracula with his charm griping at your soul with a mystery and danger. And like that his ballad crashed upon us, powerful, and intense, building like a storm on the horizon and then suddenly was upon you. More people gathered, like they were drawn to some siren song. Unwavering he played on, stoic, and in the midst of this rush he slowed down changing pace still gripping your attention. Easing down to a slow and melodic stop. The crowd stood there in silence, and before we could come to terms with what happened he was gone. A melody still ringing in our ears we moved on but no one forgot the day they heard Estas Tonne.

2020 still the best guitarist i listen to... So intense and calm and the same time.. crazy...
His home is the world and the sky and his friends are the heat he needs. You can find him playing through the port of St. Francisco or warmly on a cold night in Isla Mujeres. Or across the world. Estas Tonne is that rare dying breed of troubadours, those wandering singers who tell the world what they see in their travels, they just cheer you on or you sweeten the heart.

I'm listening Estas Tonne for many years and I have to thank youtube sugestions for that all my life.
We can describe Estas Tonne as we wish but he's just as he is. Most unique guitarist from nowadays with such a pure perfection about every note , intensity and rythm. He lives at his highest and i can be sure he have a complex lifestory that none of us can be bored about to hear , it's like he's coming back from the past 200+ years ago medieval times in our times with encrypted song messages for every necessity. Many people are healed with his music.
Personally of course he's my icon trought all guitarists around the world , 100% skill ,100% perfect improvisation and 100% concentration.
So bad we can't see him here in Romania live.

As a guitarist and chef myself, this is truly what I strive for in everything I do or think I try with every cell in my body to make people understand what/why/who I am... some understand, most don't. but that is ok, because it is only those few whom I am trying to communicate with anyway.

There is a Gypsie living inside his soul. They are the only people capable of feeling this type of depth, longing and connection. the performance place selection was extremely important. It sounds like a Paganini exercise transcription...I love it.

The worst and the best thing about music is that it transcends borders. There are no logical stopping points because it bypasses all check points and goes straight into the soul. Nietszche may have said that the soul was just something he told himself existed but he did say something among the lines of "Without music? Life would have a mistake."
This fact just can't be categorized as any kind of a bad thing to me, personally. There's just not enough music you hear that comes directly from the soul.
Ah I think I see where your coming from. But here's something little finger from Game of Thrones said. "Chaos isn't a pit, it's a ladder." I don't think I'm giving away too much. Seeing as how music has been known to be chaotic in many ways, someone else can ride that storm easily. That's why music videos are so popular today, you have the visual and the instrumental.
i suppose so. i guess i like a bit of chaos in my music. in a way it emphasizes the more orderly and structured parts . probably why The Mars Volta was and is still my favorite band.
Well one of my favorite songs that is structurally sound yet flowing like water to me is Isaac Albeniz - Asturias.

I was watching this performance as well as many other videos by Estas Tonne realizing that the most amazing thing is how music flows and changes in his mind. Each song played is like a life lived. Absolute synergy and isolation from whatever is going on around... Stunning!

I've never gotten emotional over a guitar song before, and I listen to a relatively large amount... But this song at certain segments gets my eyes watering a little for the shear beauty. Love this guy...--all of his stuff.

I have listened to this masterpiece many times over the years, but it had been some time since the last time and it's really what I needed to hear today. For me it really captures the feelings of 2020 and it brought me to tears. Thank you Estas for the healing.
