Another great video..honestly watching your videos and reading the comments has really made me reconsider what I have been planning to do. I thnk I will restrict my gigging to just my local pub on an occasional basis, free of charge..for me trying to do the hustle of finding paying gigs in my rural location, would absolutely take any fun out of it..playing songs I like to people who wanna hear something they know..been through it all before Someone made a comment on a previous video about being set up under the tv , beside the smoke machine , playing in a TAB venue to people who really aren't interested..doing exactly that was one of my most soul destroying gigs ever.. I just wanna write my songs, record my albums that no one will be interested in and occasionally go play at my local pub. Working musicians are so under appreciated, it requires a thick skin and a lot of dedication to do what they do..I know because 20 years ago I was living the life Jason is now..its just not for me. By the way Jason...you play with such a strong groove..really love what you do..wish I was in the crowd drinking beers and enjoying your show..
Thanks man.. well I'm glad your music wlll be out and about even if it's on a limited basis.. Yeah man those gigs can easily do that to you. Write and record man and put stuff on RUclips. Man I hope one day you are in the audience some day.. 👍
Like you said about venues that have music instead of music venue, it's a damn shame. Wonder if it's something to do with attention span, people need multiple input in small doses. Who knows, but you've found a way of supporting yourself as a pro musician. That must be a good feeling.
I don't think it is attention span I think it's a combination of things. The same crowd and same songs at a small festival would be cheering because thats what they are there to do.. It's actually what's making me really improve a lot lately. I think after most gigs "man I gotta get way better"..haha.. Fuck dude that is such a cool feeling to be called a pro musician.. it is my job but it doesn't feel very pro.. it feels more like the movie Men in Black.. every week the whole world is under (mostly financial) threat.. and then somehow it keeps going.. Hard shit feels good.. yes it does feel good my friend .. Damn hard and but meaningful to me.. Thanks for you comment.
Hey Jason! You just popped up on my home feed here and I figured I’d click watch. I’m a working musician who does similar shows in Canada. Your yaps in the car are painfully relatable, it seems like I’m literally talking to myself. Your talks about crowd engagement and the way people come to venues now it so true. In my experience in the post Covid world folks seem to be hesitant to be engaged with the music and are way more apt to catch up. I’m not offering any real solution other than letting you know things are the same here and within you all the best! Keep on pickin’✌️
Hey jack, Cool man I know what you mean I watch a guy named Frank in the states and his gigs are so much like I'm there as well haha. Thats a pretty cool observation and I think you could be right about that change. I just keep thinking I need to maker better music until they can't help but get involved.. win/win really.
