Just a few notes on the word ‘goner’
I’m pretty certain the word ‘goner’ derives from the word ‘gone’ which means to… disappear, no longer exist, or to have been moved or move itself to a different location.
So, to be a ‘goner’ would mean that you will disappear, or cease to exist.
However, goner can also be used in different contexts, though rarely. Sometimes, for example in sport, people can say “I thought we were goners in the first half, but somehow we managed to get the win” Meaning they thought they were going to lose in the first half of the game.

Croak, which normally refers to the sound that a frog or toad makes, is also slang for dying or death. I could say "He croaked" to mean he died. It's not something you would say about someone you like or care about. You would say this in a casual conversation with someone you know well when talking about someone you dislike or don't know personally.
