For me, this is the most interesting English video of yours and I'm really into it right now! I've done my 30 idioms noting down, thank you so much❤️... And do you want to learn some English idioms when it's Vietnamese? I can give some, like "dark horse", when you were explaining the meaning of its, another phrases popped into my head "still waters run deep" hahaaa, and the person who is a dark horse is called "giấu nghề" in Vietnamese (though "giấu nghề" is an adjective). "Giấu" is hidden and "nghề" is their job in which they're specialized. I love this idiom so much! Another idiom which can be translated to Vietnamese is "cheapskate", it's called "keo kiệt" or "bủn xỉn" in Vietnamese (I don't know to explain it, even when I'm Vietnamese, I just know that "keo kiệt" means "cheapskate" and "cheapskate" means "keo kiệt" hahaaa). For more, I can say it "phá game" with the meaning of "party pooper" (though "game" is an English word, all teenagers in Viet Nam say that🤣)... The others is pretty hard to say in Vietnamese, so I'm really thankful for you to teach me these idioms. Now I can shoot the breeze with my friends about them! Will use them for my next lesson definitely. I can confirm that "Smart Alec" was used in the UK in the 1950's and would be considered quite old fashioned. Also "Goody Goody" does not exist in the UK, we have a "Goody two shoes" and it has exactly the same meaning. "Lucky duck" I am not at all familiar with this expression in the UK. It is also very interesting to get to learn Australian idioms from this end of the world. Thank you indeed.

Hi Emma, Thanks for the new lesson. Here are several people i have described for your comments. 1)Though John has a degree in accounting but he works as a sales in a furniture store. Very often he helps his next door fixing roof and even some plumbling problems. Much as jack-of-all-trades to me, you should try to get his opinion of your warping floors and he is a friendly guy to be with too. 2) My boss is a man of his word. If he promised you for a raise after the probation time, with your such exceptional performance, odds are high he will make it happen. 3) Peter is an early bird and always the first person comes to office and also brews us a large pot of hot coffee. If he does not show up by now he probably wont for today as he sometimes has to visit his clients once a month. 4) Ken was not sure if he wanted to be slaving away at the new job as his supervisor was such a back seat driver and never stopped checking on him and yet all had to be in his way. 5) The new comer, James is a lone wolf in our class. We have not heard a peep from him for already a week after the new school term began. 6) Sherlene is such a cheapskate and seldom she shares her snacks with friends. She usually will savor her own at a corner and only join the others when finished.

In Spanish, we have a similar idiom to: the early bird gets the worm. We say: al que madruga, Dios le ayuda. If you want to translate it into English, I think the translation would be exactly that idiom you taught us today. 😁 Thanks for your amazing videos! I love them! They are always useful. 😉
Incredibly interesting lesson i hsve listened with great pleasure! Thank you so much! We have many similar idioms in Russian such as early bird, night owl, team player, man of the word, know-it-all and some similar. But we have an expression "dark horse" - the same words only in Russian and absolutely another meaning! The meaning of russian idiom is somewhat negative. We use it for example about new collegue or even boss who comes from nowhere and nobody knows nothing about him and nobody knows what we can expect from him.
Notice how a lot are associated with animals 😉? This seems as if the people of old Europe used to observe animals a lot, learning about them, basing their language over their findings.

@@mmmEnglish_Emma Hi Emma. Thank you so much for this great lesson. Now, I have a big doubt: How can you use these idioms with plural subjects like they or we or with plural nouns? For example, inagine I'm going do a business and my secretary recommends I do not do it because they are bad people. Should I say: Don't worry they are:
* a man of his word
* a man of their word or words
* men of their word
* men of their words
What if they are a group of men and women: they are men and women of their word/ words?. And the same question goes with the other idioms on plural. Could you please help me?
I am English teacher in Vietnam. Thank you
Wonderful! Which one of these English idioms describes you best?

thanks a lot our honest tutor.

Hi Emma,
Thanks for the new lesson.

Absolutely using this video in my class tomorrow afternoon. Trying to help my students avoid the “English Student” label and idioms are the most impressive way to do that. When a student uses an idiom correctly, it often lets them break into a social group.
What a fantastic way to help your students find there place amongst their peers! I love this! I hope they enjoy the lesson! 💖

Thank you ❤️❤️
Thank you for this lesson!
Gday Emma! Thanks a lot for sharing this video. I already watched your former videos about idioms and they'r amazing. I prepared a test for my students two days ago and most of them said, Mister it is a piece of cake ah ah hh. Here, in my country, we say as well it is easy like a cake or like a water.
😂 😍 So would it be correct to say "it's as easy as water" or "it's easy like water" ??
Yeah, you can say it is easy like a water or it is easy like pouring water to drink hhh😁😂😂😂
I love these videos!!!! very helpful for social life!!! thank you
I'm practicing for my better English and for better communication, so these Idioms will help me alot.
Thank you so much for this incredible effort. ❤️ Love from India🙏
I hope you enjoy practising them!!

Your English channel is my favourite! You are such a lovely and supportive teacher. I also appreciate how inclusive you are with your communication, including both genders instead of using only the masculine forms. Just something I easily notice, since my mother tongue is one of the few languages that does not have gendered pronouns :) I would really like to visit Australia
This is such a wonderful compliment _ma! I always try to make sure I am inclusive of all genders and differences. You definitely should visit Australia if you get the chance. It's a pretty amazing place 💖
Thank you for helping

In Spanish, we have a similar idiom to: the early bird gets the worm. We say: al que madruga, Dios le ayuda. If you want to translate it into English, I think the translation would be exactly that idiom you taught us today. 😁
Thanks for your amazing videos! I love them! They are always useful. 😉
But the second mouse gets the cheese😄
what an interesting video! Highly recommend to ppl who are looking forward to quality lessons.
Thanks for sharing and for your lovely words! It's so interesting to learn how idioms can differ in different languages!
@@mmmEnglish_Emma are you Australian??
Thanks Ms. Emma.Interesting topic.God bless.
Notice how a lot are associated with animals 😉?
This seems as if the people of old Europe used to observe animals a lot, learning about them, basing their language over their findings.
