By the way most people in the middle ages actually could read, it's a common misconception. If we assume Shrek had parents they probably taught him to read.
Where did you get that that was a misconception? Even the nobles were illiterate more often than not in the high and central middle ages, and peasants or lowborns who could read were extremely rare (and I mean an absolutely hair-thin percentage). Mainly because books were extremely rare, and often reserved for the clergy, most of whom could indeed read. Why would any noble or peasant need to learn to read if they didn't had anything to read? @@RenaldyCalixte Technically many of these stories never belonged to anyone except "the people ". The Brother's Grim published many of them -however - they merely compiled them from the stories that were being told by the people for generations. Plus public domain means you don't have to ask permission. That's the whole point of the 'public' part of it.
Public domain used to be available after 35 years of the product existing. Guess what company in the early 1900s changed that and continues to change that law, stretching it out and out and out because they refuse to have Snow White be released to view without gaining money from it?
I like that CinemaSin’s writing makes Jeremy seem like he has dissociative identity disorder and short term memory loss that clings to his running gags as his only tether to reality.
Shrek: "The first thin I'm gonna do is build a 10 foot wall around my land" Jeremy: "and Mexico will pay for it" Me: That was so corny that it should be illegal.
@@mattholt2451 It can criticize it, yes. But this isn't giving a critique on the flaws of and just wiping shit off a clean plate with a infectiously dirty rag.
9:01 In some lore, such as Lord of the Rings, a good way to talk to dragons without them roasting you alive (at least for a bit) is to use flattery, to basically kind of “stroke their ego.”
Mike Myers did initially record his lines with his normal accent. (There are still recordings you could find via the technical goofs from Shrek 1.) But after listening to a rough cut of the film, Myers was afraid that the character didn’t have as much charm with the way he recorded his lines, so he asked the Dreamworks crew if he could re-record all of his lines using a Scottish accent. End result is what we see in the final cut and is honestly a good call.
Also, for Jeremy sinning the gold that the Dragon was guarding: Gold hoarding is a common trait in Dragons of any mythos. As you said yourself, Birdman, Smaug is an excellent example. And even in video games like Skyrim, the dragons at the word walls are always guarding a high value loot chest, and always have at least 150 Septims on their corpses.
I'd heard about the CinemaSins They'd find some faults, we'd laugh and grin But now they're washed out, desperate for the viewers Making pop culture references out of the blue Manipulating scenes to try to fool you They're a cold and they're a broken hallelujah Hallelujah, hallelujah, Hallelujah, hallelujah
9:44 There's an even simplier explanation for why Fiona's dress fit in both her Human and Ogre forms. Magic. This has got nothing to do with her wearing stretchy clothing, as even the wedding dress changes size to fit her at the end of the movie.
(9:02) imagine being isolated on an island guarding a princess for years and years with no one to talk to. Then, a male comes a long (remember you probably haven’t seen a male in years), and they start flirting with you... Hell yes you would be flattered.
8:56 its not necessarily a bad sin, but i have trouble believing that its coming from a genuine place when this is the same "person" or production that called Hermione's underage actor attractive. It feels more like, "Hey ladies! Im a nice guy, i respect womens boundaries! Also, periods suck! Please show me your boobs now!"
Also, shrek wasn't even made by disney, it was made by dreamworks, which from a simple google search, can tell you is also not owned by disney, but is owned by mega media conglomerate NBCUniversal, which in turn is owned by Comcast.
FatQuickscope41 Since the majority of fairy tales are Disney you could say that is what Shrek was aiming for. But they reference just about any genre of film so it isn’t a Disney thing
MattyP The producer Jeffrey Katzenberg had a huge falling out with Disney at this time, of which then-CEO Michael Eisner played no small part. It’s pretty well-known that this movie was intended as a jab at Disney, not just fairy tales in general.
10:03 dude, that picture is actually real? Now I wanna know where can I find such a view of the moon, and why the moon looks like that in the first place. It's gorgeous!
It's a photo of a supermoon, right at about sunset. The moon can appear HUGE in the sky during this time. I personally caught one (not this big, but still fairly large).
8:11 Jokes on Jeremy, a Pizza delivery guy showing up at the gates of a giant, fiery, dragon guarded castle is actually not that farfetched in the Shrek Universe.
0:32 "There are 2 K's, 2 E's, and 2 R's in this logo... This has always made me so mad... Yes, there are 2 K's and 2 R's... But there aren't 2 E's. I've never seen anybody point this out, WHERE IS THE SECOND E???
i was so worried when you took that sin off for sinning all star and when you said you were trolling i burst out laughing. well played Th3Birdman, well played
"...stopped trying to kill them because she's fallen in love with Donkey (Eddie Murphy's @$$)." I love how you vocally rephrase some of the written dialogue, making some punny double entendres. I wonder if this one in particular was enough to send Cinema Sins to go mule-ing after his mother.
11:05 I was about say this wrong until I remembered that in my Kung-Fu class I took about 5 years ago we referred to our teacher as "Shifu," and I was just remembering wrong. Points for accuracy, but what she was doing was not Kung-Fu, and could also be Karate if we're using well known fighting styles for names, in which case Sensei would apply to the Japanese martial art.
@13:10 The spell cast on Fiona clearly says “Until you find true love’s first kiss, and then take love’s true form”. Keyword: Love’s true form. Shrek is her true love, therefore she would become an ogre when they kiss, becoming her true love’s (Shrek) form (an ogre). CinemaSins just irritates the hell out of me sometimes.
I had the BIGGEST crush on her. My ex actually looked almost exactly like her, but Asian lol Then she was in Charlie's Angels with two other women I have crushes on to this day, and it was bliss.
12:57 to add on this sin, she didn't really have much of a choice but to marry Fuckwad because that was his endgame in the first place without knowing of her curse. What you said does apply though, as she does begin to fall for shrek throughout the movie
9:14 It’s called keeping a hoard. Dragons and dragonkin do it as a show of their power. As B3rb says later, look at the vast hoard of Smaug! He was literally swimming in so much gold he that even Fafnir would be properly jealous! Ya don’t mess with dragons unless ya ready to feel the burn.
Robin Hood's real identity was Sir Robin of Loxley. His family's lands were taken by Prince John after he was assumed dead during the Crusades. Most versions of the tale established that as his backstory except for, maybe, the Disney version starring Nick Wilde's ancestor.
1:24 Did he seriously say "the cover of Hallelujah in Watchmen"? The one in Watchmen IS the original by Leonard Cohen, the one in Shrek is a cover. It's like a full octave above Leonard Cohen's range.
The fact that Jeremy is all "why is the ogre Scottish?" just makes it sound like he's questioning why they aren't American. And as an American, that annoys me.
Minor point -- this film actually has quite a lot to do with Disney. Katzenberg was a major driving force behind the Disney Renaissance, and then Eisner up and fired him. Shrek was in no small part a massive f*** you to Katzenberg's former employers. It specifically thumbs its nose not just at fairytales, but specifically at Disney's version of fairytales. That's why it's a jukebox musical, why Duloc is a mockery of Disney World, and why so many of the character designs are similar to the way Disney draws the characters. This is pretty well documented.
3:53 I think it’s because ogres don’t pay their taxes, and when ye old tax collector comes knocking on their door, they let out a roar and scare the tax collectors away.
Minor correction, Robin Hood wasn't a nobleman in the earliest folk tales. It wasn't until after the upper class started writing them down that his nobleman backstory was added to it because they were uncomfortable with stories of the lower class being praised for robbing them. So whether or not Jeremy is wrong depends entirely on which period in history we draw from. Somehow, I doubt he was aware of this, though. Yup, this is what a degree in folklore studies lets you do with your life: make minor corrections to random videos on the internet.

Vits Vicente Torres I see, they were probably all pretty bad.
Vits Vicente Torres Only one that deserved it was Shrek the 3rd
i only watch cinema sins in bird man vids lol
@@hasthehighground8560 and shrek forever after..

Just wanna say thank you for that fact about Robin Hood. Him being French in this movie always bugged me because I knew him as an English character, but now knowing the context you gave it actually makes a lot of sense. Goes to show the difference research can make and I’ll definitely be more inclined to actually look things up now instead of just assuming something is wrong.
It’s funny, but I don’t think I was respecting this channel enough until I was on Jeremy’s side and proven wrong. I was always entertained and loved your videos but now I see how they can be legitimately important to the RUclips film criticism community. So, genuinely, thank you for what you’re doing
the 'That's Racist' Captions are getting increasingly more clever
Considering all the Shrek memes I see everyday, I'm pretty sure this will be the video that will give you 1 million views.
Yeeeeep.
I swear if he does that to the second movie I personally will find him and drown him in the swamp
He did. He said it was bad

I wouldn't call Disney's stories "stolen". The fairytales and legends were in the public domain, after all.
Emphasis on "were"
@@MsCounterMax They still are. Only Disney's interpretations of them are now copyrighted somehow.
@@RenaldyCalixte Technically many of these stories never belonged to anyone except "the people
". The Brother's Grim published many of them -however - they merely compiled them from the stories that were being told by the people for generations. Plus public domain means you don't have to ask permission. That's the whole point of the 'public' part of it.
@@saribeepo.o5111 The point is, none of the stories are from the imagination of the people at Disney, which many people legitimately believe.
You have to love how there’s an entire series dedicated to pointing out Cinema Sins’ mistakes
Ah Shrek, my first Dreamworks film.
“Take love’s true form”
“Uhh why does she turn into an ogre?”
What is Jeremy doing in this swamp?!?!
Shrek: "The first thin I'm gonna do is build a 10 foot wall around my land"
Jeremy: "and Mexico will pay for it"
Me: That was so corny that it should be illegal.
9:10 Actually there is a reason dragons like to sleep in hoards of gold: more traditional beding materials would catch on fire.
Also they supposedly give the dragons who can sleep off centuries prophetic dreams
The reasoning changes depending on the fictional world
also gold's a very soft metal, I reckon that that would translate nicely to a dragon
First off, all the sins for Jeremy even thinking of sinning this film.
Second, WHAT IS HE DOING IN YOUR SWAMP?!
Kryo Ruler of the Ninth Circle of Hell you think this movie is above criticism
@@mattholt2451 It can criticize it, yes. But this isn't giving a critique on the flaws of and just wiping shit off a clean plate with a infectiously dirty rag.
I love that you kept the "reverb" voice for the last zinger.
13:19 Jermey actually has seen Shrek 2. And in the description, he said that was a terrible movie. Infinity sins just for the description alone.
He actually did the video on Shrek 2 before Shrek 1. So there’s no excuse.
Good catch on the French nobles, it's something, even in Europe, people don't know
9:08 "And CinemaSins has millions of intelligent subsrib-"
Also, for Jeremy sinning the gold that the Dragon was guarding:
Gold hoarding is a common trait in Dragons of any mythos. As you said yourself, Birdman, Smaug is an excellent example. And even in video games like Skyrim, the dragons at the word walls are always guarding a high value loot chest, and always have at least 150 Septims on their corpses.
If he did know this he'd probably say "dragon hoards gold cliche". It seems like kind of a lose-lose situation.
@@narxmagee727 true, true.
Jeremy sins literally EVERYTHING

Is this the first dragon story he's ever seen?

9:44 There's an even simplier explanation for why Fiona's dress fit in both her Human and Ogre forms. Magic. This has got nothing to do with her wearing stretchy clothing, as even the wedding dress changes size to fit her at the end of the movie.
Not adding 100 sins for CS even touching this masterpiece *ding*
(9:02) imagine being isolated on an island guarding a princess for years and years with no one to talk to. Then, a male comes a long (remember you probably haven’t seen a male in years), and they start flirting with you... Hell yes you would be flattered.
2:51 so many sins that it overflowed and went negative!
"The dragon fell in love with Eddie Murphy's ass!" I lost it!
9:37 Aw come on, Birdman! That was funny!
Also, shrek wasn't even made by disney, it was made by dreamworks, which from a simple google search, can tell you is also not owned by disney, but is owned by mega media conglomerate NBCUniversal, which in turn is owned by Comcast.
Urgh, nobody is saying it was produced by Disney. Not even Cinemasins.
@@paulheap1982 What about Jeremy's Pinocchio sin? Why did he bring up Disney
FatQuickscope41 because it’s commonly believed that Shrek is a satire of Disney
FatQuickscope41 Since the majority of fairy tales are Disney you could say that is what Shrek was aiming for. But they reference just about any genre of film so it isn’t a Disney thing
MattyP
The producer Jeffrey Katzenberg had a huge falling out with Disney at this time, of which then-CEO Michael Eisner played no small part. It’s pretty well-known that this movie was intended as a jab at Disney, not just fairy tales in general.
0:33 - I think you need to give an extra 10 sins for Jeremy saying there's 2 Es in the logo when there's clearly just one
THANK YOU
That intro song though. That was amazing. 😢 Oh yeah, Cinema Sins even thinking that Shrek is trouble movie would be a sin.
6:45 Jeremy actually wasn’t wrong here. Shrek was supposed to be a sort of revenge film against Disney by Dreamworks’ new CEO at the time
10:03 dude, that picture is actually real? Now I wanna know where can I find such a view of the moon, and why the moon looks like that in the first place. It's gorgeous!

"...stopped trying to kill them because she's fallen in love with Donkey (Eddie Murphy's @$$)."
I love how you vocally rephrase some of the written dialogue, making some punny double entendres. I wonder if this one in particular was enough to send Cinema Sins to go mule-ing after his mother.
Also there’s nothing with a Scottish accent, Jeremy.
Also thank you for the trivia.
12:10 Does Cinama Sins acually think a guy like Farquaad wouldn't want to make a dramatic entrance, especially for his futire wofe?
11:05
I was about say this wrong until I remembered that in my Kung-Fu class I took about 5 years ago we referred to our teacher as "Shifu," and I was just remembering wrong.
Making All Star a slow song at the beginning was an interesting stylistic choice

12:57 to add on this sin, she didn't really have much of a choice but to marry Fuckwad because that was his endgame in the first place without knowing of her curse. What you said does apply though, as she does begin to fall for shrek throughout the movie
9:52 It’s magic, a Fairy Godmother put in the “grow/shrink to fit” clause”. Trying to apply logic to a fantasy movie, what a CinemaSins move,
9:14 It’s called keeping a hoard. Dragons and dragonkin do it as a show of their power. As B3rb says later, look at the vast hoard of Smaug! He was literally swimming in so much gold he that even Fafnir would be properly jealous!
Ya don’t mess with dragons unless ya ready to feel the burn.
This is the first time I've heard that Robinhood was a nobleman. I honestly assumed he was a peasant.
Robin Hood's real identity was Sir Robin of Loxley. His family's lands were taken by Prince John after he was assumed dead during the Crusades.
Most versions of the tale established that as his backstory except for, maybe, the Disney version starring Nick Wilde's ancestor.
@@DrZuluGaming nick wilde's ancestor with a recolor of Baloo the bear

Did he seriously say "the cover of Hallelujah in Watchmen"? The one in Watchmen IS the original by Leonard Cohen, the one in Shrek is a cover. It's like a full octave above Leonard Cohen's range.
I know this comment is a year old, but that time stamp is way off
The fact that Jeremy is all "why is the ogre Scottish?" just makes it sound like he's questioning why they aren't American. And as an American, that annoys me.
Boy, that music running gag throughout this video was worth chuckling!
8:48 Arthur Pendragon
Yup! JT voices him in Shrek the Third
3:53 I think it’s because ogres don’t pay their taxes, and when ye old tax collector comes knocking on their door, they let out a roar and scare the tax collectors away.
How can Jeremy sin this masterpiece of a movie which was held during generations
That Justin Timberlake clip makes me laugh more than Jeremy’s joke🤣🤣🤣
Minor correction, Robin Hood wasn't a nobleman in the earliest folk tales. It wasn't until after the upper class started writing them down that his nobleman backstory was added to it because they were uncomfortable with stories of the lower class being praised for robbing them. So whether or not Jeremy is wrong depends entirely on which period in history we draw from. Somehow, I doubt he was aware of this, though.
Yup, this is what a degree in folklore studies lets you do with your life: make minor corrections to random videos on the internet.
