  • Explanation of how this tool magazine contributes to an Automatic Tool Change system on a CNC Router using an ER collet type spindle.
An Automatic Tool Changing Spindle made from a Chinese, air cooled, 2.2kW, 24,000 RPM, ER Collet spindle. Sounds impossible but it's not, and yes, it works and works good. Take a few moments to see what is possible and see if you are up to the challenge of making something like it.

Could prob program the spindel to grab the collet and then move percisely into a collet wrench thats like welded nearby to tighten it up, i just run a natural stone cnc, im not this advanced as i dont have any schooling but i can program and make tools go where they are supposed to 😂 i went from using a hand grinder to self teaching myself how to run pretty cool stuff on a big CMS stone cnc. This little bit thing you designed is amazing. I recently started using tools that most shops dont do in our industry. Recently got a big passion for going outside the box when it comes to cnc machining, and have done cool things on stone that impress most in my trade :p today i learned what a collet chuck even was and made a makeshift DIY tool with a tool holder and collet.. being held in the collet is a sort of screw that can fasten a hand grinder/polishing wheel with velcrow that holds stone polishing pads and made a very dark, man made stone look so polished, you could see your reflection. The video was great and found it useful.

      Hello and welcome,
I think you are asking if the spindle motor could rotate to align with a fixed, open end wrench - THAT IS A BIG NO. The minimum RPM of that spindle is about 6000 RPM and has no positional control. This is why a stepper motor is used with a gearbox and socket as designed.
It is always fun to innovate, happy stone working.
      Cheers!
      Chris

Outstanding. Thank you for taking up the effort to explain your machine subsystems and how you interested Centroid Acorn, Ether1616 and CNC12

      Hi Marty,
My pleasure. I really enjoyed the re-control to the Centroid Acorn AND being able to get my Automatic Tool Changing System to run properly and reliably!
Keep watching, there are more to come!

@@MakingStuffwithChrisDeHut Centroid CNC has the PLC and power to do it with a little programming and the tools Centroid provides, and you found that out!

Nice design. A simple addition to your macro could save you from a possible future crash caused by a failed close fault of the open or close switches. Insert another wait statement to see the opposite switch off. Every cycle thereafter will confirm both switches are changing state.

Great video and good design. How to use a cheap spindle to have an ATC. Pretty cool. Now you need to figure out how to change collets. Lol. More nuts with pre loaded collets? Hmmm maybe possible. I was trying to remember where I recognize you and my wife says over my shoulder “oh that’s the guy we met at the woodworking show where we bought his magazine on discs. Been a while.

Hi BLT Venture, thanks for the kind words and or recognizing me! Yup, that is me, and yup, the woodworking videos on my RUclips channel are the videos from the old magazine. It certainly has been a while since then!
Regarding further development on the ATC with larger tools, different collets, etc. I am already pondering different concepts and ideas. Unfortunately, with so many things on my plate, I don't have much time for "deep thought".
      Cheers!

@@WildmanTech Awesome, just listened to their podcast and they got most of the concept correct. I suspect they would have had to watch the other videos on this system to understand how it works etc. Either way, it is great to see other people talking about the system! I was looking for a contact to reach out to them but couldn't find it on their podcast page.
Thanks for letting me know about this!
