Definitely a hot take, but I actually like Eadlyn more than America. Eadlyn is annoying, but she's supposed to be so that she can have a character arc and change to be less annoying. America is annoying from book one and continues to be annoying the entire time with zero character development
the way i fell to my knees at walmart when i found out that Eadlyn sent Kile away when i was rooting for him, genuinely traumatizing i've thought about it daily since i read the books
I’ve got to admit I really wanted it to be Kile. No hate against Eikko, he’s a nice guy but I feel like there was originally more potential with Kile and Eadlyn. Honestly I would have loved for her to give up the crown, make Ilya a democracy and be a fashion designer while Kile did architecture. But I’m not Kirra Cass so 🤷🏻♀️
I was so lost in 6th grade when she chose Eikko. I didnt catch at all that they liked each other. But maybe I was just rooting for Kile way too much because the scene where he and Eadlyn make out was the hottest shit I had read up to that point
When I read the book in Middle School I somehow was convinced that Eikko is an old man (fully glossed over the character description) and therefore didn’t get any of the hints till they kissed. I was never again this mindfucked over a book and I’m still confused as to how in hell I drew the old man conclusion
Oh my god, when i first read the heir/crown, i wanted eadlyn to end up with kile so bad that I started BAWLING hot tears when she chose erik. I was already disliking the character but that part really solidified my hatred lmao. I was in middle school at the time so hating a main character was new for me 😭😭
Honestly, mood, when you’re in middle school that sort of thing happens. For me at least, book characters were very real to me, so when they do something that I don’t like it stresses me out, as in literally raises my heart rate. one time I was reading a book in middle school and something happened that I didn’t like, and I literally threw it across the room. Then my mom asked what sound that was, and I had to explain what happens and she told me that she just spent $25 on the book, and I better not abuse it. It is currently sitting dusty in a cabinet. (I only know that because I am doing spring cleaning (really late) and unearthed it Again.)

@@antoninabandrivska8806 pre warning for spoiler, also I don’t remember it perfectly, it has been a while, and this also probably isn’t the biggest issue, BUT, if I remember correctly, the part that made me throw the book was with hermione. Idk, just the way hermione exists in that book isn’t my favoriteS. I’m not sure the exact section that made me throw it, it could have been anything, but that is at least the part that stuck with me.
Thanks for doing this recap! While Edelyn (I forgot how she spelled her name) was indeed conceited, pompous and sometimes unbearable, at least she could make up her mind. America's flip flopping was seriously annoying, like I wanted to pull her out from the books to shake some sense into her! lol! The male protagonist in this book wasn't as dreamy as Maxon though, so I still prefer the original series.
And making her like that made sense because she grew up as a royal, if she wasn’t selfish and conceited she wouldn’t have been believable. Making her a super likable/ perfect character would have taken me out of the book.
That's a weak argument, Maxon grew up in royalty and wasn't nearly as snobby or self entitled, did we forget that? I just find it so hard to believe the daughter of Maxon would end up so bratty and selfish. Maxon was clueless of the world, but he wasn't a jerk. Edalyn stomps around as if she owns the place already. Also, I think it's fair America felt conflicted about her own feelings when Maxon had to simultaneously date 10 other girls. She wasn't an automatic winner despite what Maxon would say because she brought no value, so there was a very real chance she could be sent home.
@adrianna3482 you forget all the times he stood up to America though he knew how to get cold and hold his title over her head when he felt he needed to. Especially when he was pissed abt/wouldn't hear her out about Celeste and found out about Aspen
My favorite part of all this is definitely the Amberly short story. It's well-written and really sad. It explains Amberly and Clarkson's personalities really well and also how toxicity in relationships can form. And yeah, Clarkson is such a terrible person, but it's interesting to see how Amberly believes she should stick by him.
I never read the Heir and the Crown; but I must confess that of the original series and the short stories, Amberly’s story left me with the strongest impression.
WE HAVE BEEN FED🙏 I too love Henri so much, he is just adorable! The way he cooks for the servants and genuinely wants the best for everyone around him is just so precious, I would die for him😭Also, unpopular opinion (probably): I always preferred the last two books over the trilogy... Mostly because it's at least a bit harder to guess how it will end and because I found most of the contestants to be more interesting and different from each other for some reason. Maybe it's because the protagonist has to spend time with each one individually. Plus, I enjoy the "backwards Cinderella" trope (ie princess marrying normal or poor person) more than the other way around because I feel like it's not been done before quite as often.
Since you enjoy reverse Cinderella, you should try the Nickelodeon movie “Rags.” Set in the 2000s and the girl is an unfulfilled pop star with the boy who wants to escape his uncle’s restaurant to become a rapper. It is not the best but it’s funny and the main couple are cute
I was a nanny and one of “my” kids was reading these when she was in 5th grade. I was organizing her bookshelf, and could tell she’d been flipping through them a lot because they were paperback, so I asked her about them. She looked kind of embarrassed but lit up to tell me how much she liked them, so asked if I could take the first one home to read. I read the whole thing that night and rushed to her bookshelf the next day to grab the rest she had 😅 And then we excitedly waited together for the last book to release, I miss those moments 💜

I like to think that after the Selection ended, he met a beautiful Finnish girl and fell even more in love with her than he was with Eadlyn and they got married and moved to Angeles so he could open his own little pastry shop that does very well because it's highly recommended by the queen, her mother, and her aunt. Also I think Eadlyn is extremely real in her position because yes, what woman doesn't need to be cold and calculating when in her position? If she had been sweet and lovely from the beginning, people would have questioned her authority more than they already did. Justice for Eadlyn.
Thank you so much LMAO. I absolutely loved the Selection series in 7th grade, but never read the sequel books. Now that I'm in college I don't think I could ever pick up these type of YA books again cuz of the way they are written but I'm glad I know what happens now

The heir to the throne needs at least one child to have a, hopefully, bloodless succession of power. If she doesn’t get married, no babies and a possible war between her brothers’ kids for the throne after her death.
Did you ever read the Shatter Me series ?? Would for sure watch a three part series on these cuz I remember liking the books but I have no memory of the plot 😂
Another comment for the algorithm: I really dislike Marid being a villain given who his parents are and what their relationship to America and Maxon is. Idk, I just feel like he could have been a random guy and the outcome would have been the same, no need to connect him to the original trilogy just for the sake of it
Was I the only one who would’ve loved to have seen a sapphic relationship explored in this continuation? Like imagine if Henri’s translator was a woman, and her and Eadlyn found that they had feelings for each other. As a gay, I don’t really care about representation for the sake of representation, but I just genuinely feel like this would’ve just been way more interesting than what we got because it could’ve introduced and explored so many different plot lines, rather than just The Selection again but gender swapped
Thanks for doing the whole series. I remember liking and disliking the whole thing because of all the drama 😂 but then again, this is YA and realistically so. Cause if this was me when i was a teenager, I'd crying everyday with all the confusion 😂
Just found your channel and binged your other videos on the series yesterday and was sad you never did the sequels but then this popped up in my recommended, thank you!!!
Thank you for covering the entire series!!! I didn't get around to reading the last 2 books with America's daughter, so at least I get the gist of what happened now lol
A third comment 'cause why not! As much as I appreciated having a gay couple in a book of this particular genre and in the particular time that it was written in, it felt so lackluster. We barely saw them together, there were no signs before it was officially confirmed and even individually these characters were very surface level imo. I mean, I get that the books are from Edelyn's perspective and she is not really involved in their relationship but idk, I guess it felt a bit icky to have the only gay couple in the entire series be used as a plot twist with no further depth or exploration to it. Also yes, Edelyn being at LEAST bicurious, more likely full on queer in some way or the other is my headcannon no 1. Happy pride everybody!🏳🌈

Another comment for the algorithm: I really dislike Marid being a villain given who his parents are and what their relationship to America and Maxon is. Idk, I just feel like he could have been a random guy and the outcome would have been the same, no need to connect him to the original trilogy just for the sake of it
lmao kyle being musty is so true
tbh excited for this, i couldnt make it thru book 1 of this series but i will absolutely watch amanda talk about them
I literally watched the last 2 videos in one day last week and then this shows up today. I’m so excited!! 😂
you posting made my day thank you i will watch while learning to crochet xoxo
NO- BUT THE ARCHITECTURE.
WHAT ABOUT THE ARCHITECTURE.
I almost died.
“Would somehow end up with aspens son…. OR DAUGHETER?”
That would’ve been too cool
7:40 IS THAT THE MUMMERS PARADE?! I can't😂😂😂 I'm dead😂😂😂😂
Please, PLEASE the Lunar Chronicles next 😭😭❤️
Can we please get a full recap on the absolute pure insanity that is the “Red Queen” series. I read them during COVID and 💢
That would be so cool! I love the insanity of Mare's history.
Omg yes, I just watched your other video(s? I ended up watching several after I found you lol) yesterday and wanted another selection one!
My fav series on your channel🙏🙏
the way I gasped when I saw you posted this
This series made me re read the books and read for the first time the last couple books. Thanks for reminding me my love of these books ❤
Thanks for doing the whole series. I remember liking and disliking the whole thing because of all the drama 😂 but then again, this is YA and realistically so. Cause if this was me when i was a teenager, I'd crying everyday with all the confusion 😂
omggg we have been blessed!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS! You always make the best recaps😍😍😍😍
"the Maxim that I know and love and the America that I... know"
Omg I hope you eventually do something like the matched book series I love when you talk about book series girl💕

Thank you for posting this omg ily
I couldnt get through the crown so im glad you're here to tell me the key points 😂
Just found your channel and binged your other videos on the series yesterday and was sad you never did the sequels but then this popped up in my recommended, thank you!!!
Never heard about any of this but loved watching this series
Obsessed with the chandelier in the background looking like you're wearing a tiara
My English teacher told me to read the selection books and I got so bored reading them that I stopped after I finished the first book
Thank you for covering the entire series!!! I didn't get around to reading the last 2 books with America's daughter, so at least I get the gist of what happened now lol
This slayed, thanks for entertaining me so 👏
OH YEAH THE NEXT SELECTION VIDEO
WHOOP WHOOP
Oh great i just discovered your previous videos about the selection yesterday and there you are with a new one today :DD
I hate reading but i love listening to people summarize books
I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS ONE SM !!😂😂😂
You know, I only just realized after watching the other two videos the irony of me watching this on July 4th lmao
You’re so pretty!! Love your videos !! 💕
