There is another left-hand fingering, a better one: 4/3, 2/3 (major: bass/chord, bass/chord) or 4/2, 3/2 (minor) for alternate bass. This is a more modern method.

Is it modern? I learned this method it as a child thirty years ago from a teacher who hadn't played in decades then.

Hang on a minute...as a beginner I am now very confused. You say use finger 3 for bass and finger 2 for major minor etc, and that this is what all pros use...
But on other liberty bellows videos and most places on the internet we are told to use finger 4 on bass...!
Is this fingering of yours personal opinion or fact, because I really need to clear the confusion!
Great playing by the way 👍
    Dave

There's a lot of debate on this topic. What I have deduced over the years is that the 4-3 method is easier for casual players who mainly play rhythm accompaniment on the left hand. It has the benefit that you can use 3 fingers which tends to give more stability and structure for beginners. The 3-2 method however is better in the long run because it allow for easier transition to complex scales and bass runs that are more awkward with the 4-3 method (though still possible if you have a strong pinky). Stas (and most virtuoso players who are classically trained) will use the 3-2 method. In theory you should be able to play either way 3-2 or 4-3 as needed.

@@libertybellows Thanks for pointing that out. I think this idea should have much more prominence in the video itself. Most people getting instruction from this site will end up being casual players who use the left hand for rhythm accompaniment, not people who are going to be professional players. But he ends up promoting the second type much more strongly, so it suggests the other one is to be avoided (although he says its our choice). As a beginner, I find the first type much easier, and I know I will never get to an advanced level, so am glad I found your comment.

2:41 hello, why do you say that? In all the tutorials and lessons/resources online the first type of fingering is recommended, my father plays since he was a kid and uses the second type of fingering, but told me to learn the first type because it's better and useful for more difficult and fast passages, also my dad told me that a friend of ours who plays very well uses the first type, since it's the type pro-players utilize

Wonderful! Would like to learn those exercises. But you play it so fast...difficult to follow.
    Kindly do it slowly.

I learned with fourth on the bass and third on the chord. Second would play the alternate bass.

So is being able to play the correct button just a matter of experience and familiarity? They have no texture to identify themselves except for the C.

Those who NEED this video, can not follow those quick movements. So what would help is if you point with a pencil to what is being pressed SLOWLY saying with which finger, because with hand it is all not visible.
