I was probably pretty lucky when I went to a tournament in Brussels, Belgium as my first time experience in a tournament. I only encountered like only 2 people that stank.
I'm a local attending evo. Its gonna be hot outside. I believe its record-breaking heat this summer so stay cool and hydrate! The venue is huge! I've been there for comic-cons in the past! #stayhydrated
11:12 This this this. Take the round. That's the rules, you need to take the round. This just saved me at Combo Breaker, 100%. I was getting beat up by a Yoshi player, but then he had an accidental pause. We didn't exchange any words, he was a perfect sportsman and he just held forward and gave me the round. (And that was the mental reset/emotional momentum I needed to make it through that set. Super GGs, Yoshi player.)
PSA: Cons are a lot of people together in (relatively, thanks to the crowds) confined spaces for long periods of time at high heat levels. A mask would limit your chances of getting sick and is highly recommended if you or a loved one is immunocompromised. Additionally, you could spray something pleasant smelling into the inside of the mask and avoid the *s t a n k* for some added benefit.
In my experience, EVO doesn’t like outside food and drink. They always make me and my friends empty our water bottles. But there’s usually water in the venue, and if there’s not food inside the convention hall, it’s usually right outside.
@@imanafshari6128 they’re not checking bottles this year since water filling stations are outside the venue, so you can bring whatever you want now lol
Thanks again for this video -- your advice really came in clutch. Brought along a $10 camping stool and it literally saved my ass. One thing I wish I had done (which I usually do and simply forgot) is BRING PEN AND PAPER. I don't think you touched on it here (and others may prefer different note-taking methods anyway), but the amount of times I was like "i gotta write this down" and couldn't was crazy. Contact info, advice, answers to knowledge checks, vendor prices, directions... the humble pen and paper would have had my back had I not forgotten to bring them.
Went to Evo this past weekend , was so much fun, and pleasantly surprised that people smelled good! 🤣 was totally expecting some stank but everyone got the memo 👏🏼👏🏼
Chewing gum might also be a good idea. I don’t usually use gum, but at tournaments it’s good for reducing stress/ nerves. And as a bonus it prevents bad breath 😁
Thanks for all vids phi from the commentary to the tutorials it’s all helpful Im kazuya main and just hit fujin it took me 1 day and 19hours and 2 mins thanks for all the help
We have a thing at DEF CON but I think it applies to all conferences/tournaments and it's the "3-2-1 Rule": At least 3 hours of sleep, 2 meals, and 1 shower a day, no excuses!
Good luck for the tournament, pretty cool you're on the BNE thumbnail for their stream coverage. Their faith is not misplaced, we believe! I took an extra shower today, I'm not going to be at the event but it can't hurt, right?
How do you plan to restream Evo from your hotel room? In my experience hotels are notorious for having bad internet. Do you call ahead and make sure you have a wired connection to a decent internet source for each hotel you go to at every major you go to?
I have a really big doubt. if we bring PS5 Dual Sense Edge(Has 2 extra buttons than normal PS5 pad) controller to the tournament to make use of the extra 2 buttons they need to be mapped in the PS5 settings. Can we do that by exiting the game for a minute? edited : also how to and where to register for tournaments.
I am pretty sure, but I could be wrong, that my understanding of the rules was that controller settings need to be editable IN GAME using controller mappings. I have 0 experience and have never attended, so don't trust me.
Good luck on evo it’s going to be crazy , jack army 💪🏽 and the intro 😂 idk how people don’t mind being dirty n sweaty let alone not wear deodorant that’s just mad weird
Damn this came out at the perect time! Ive been an online warrior in guilty gear and now in tekken for the last 5 or so years. Never been to an offline tournament for either game. But this summer im planning to start going to my local weekly scene, and also vsfighting here in the UK. The video basically answered all the small questions that i had about going to a tournament. Thank you phi!
One very important technical point is if the tournament is based on PS5 hardware plug all your controllers and sticks to the BACK of the console or front TYPE-A port to avoid any issues. If you have a USB-C cable you could also plug it into the front USB-C port. The problem that i have encountered on the recent Mixup master event in Lyon is that they had a cheap chinese adapters plugged into USB-C port essentially converting them into type-A's. When i plugged my Dualsense into that Type-A adapter that was plugged into that front USB-C port (because front Type A was occupied by another player) there was a significant input delay. I also saw Joey Fury plugging his Dualshock 4 into Brook adapter into that cheap usbc to TYPE-A adapter which probably caused him to lose to Kicking Machine. Whether he lost because Kicking machine played better or because he experienced the delay - thats another question, but that could be the culprit.
I’m soo shocked by the amount of people who don’t shower, like I’ve never been to a major tournament. But the amount of people begging to have a shower and bring deodorant is ridiculous.
You can hear the PTSD in phidi's voice when he was begging for people to shower and wear deodorant
the horrors of every person whos gone to any convention/big event for hobbies
It's just wild to me that some people just don't do these more than basic, common sense stuff. Someone really failed these people growing up.
Smash players
Came to comments just to eat popcorns

It's gonna be 110°F on Friday. 113°F both Sat and Sun. Great advice friend.

There should be a deorodant stand in the venue for all the days of EVO
Every game tourney tbh 😭the Yu gi oh one getting shut down was crazy
No one would use it out of shame. Going to a stand like that would make the people feel like they're admitting to smelling bad.
@@PSElGuapo17 better than smelling bad for the whole thing… I’d be glad if people went
It’s pretty dope he basically does this in 1 take … gotta appreciate phi and the work he puts in
Been chowing down on sticks of Degree for weeks in preparation for EVO. I feel as healthy and fragrant as a horse!!!
How manygood smelling fragrant horses have u encountered😂😂
Instructions unclear, I bathed in deodorant and sprayed some water on myself
still more than some people are willing to do 🥲
still gonna smell better than most people there.

Emptying water bottles is to make sure its not booze I think

Perfect video for me, my first ever EVO, hella nervous 😭✊️. Freaking Lifesaver 🙏

First tip being shower and deodorant is wild hah
I am going to show up in a cut off sleeved cowboy shirt and casually win the championship
make sure you dont wear deodorant to mix up your opponent
Thank you for being a great force in the Tekken community.
Wish you great success, and hope you find your Noctis in Tekken 8 👍
Evo seems fun this should be on my bucket list to go to an Evo event someday.
It's funny i'm watching this post-evo. This year was great!

Phi, want to wish you the best as you compete at Evo!
Saving this for when I go to EVO eventually. Hopefully. Maybe
so hyped for EVO
This my first ever EVO THANK YOU PHIDX!!!!
Thanks Phi for the video, this is gonna be my 3rd EVO and I’m super excited about it maybe I’ll get a chance to see you.
That shot at the smash community at the start 💀
👍🏼 if this will be your first EVO as a viewer!
You won’t be streaming at the hotel room cause you’ll be in the TOP 6 ❤
PHIII!!! Oh my god!!! I’m going to EVO this year!!! You uploaded this as I was finishing packing my bag!! Thank you!!!
I live in Vegas. Not gonna make it to Evo but if you guys have some hotel games, I'd love to come n play.
Bro, you gotta do an analysis on that crazy grand finale between Arslan and Atif
Shoutout from Ukraine Tekken community. Long Live PhiDX.
12:20 THIS. Generally people are cool, but I've been in a situation where I won, and my opponent quickly reported themselves as the winner to the TO
How lame. Did your opponent advance to the next round anyway?
Wear my shower and take a deodorant. Got it.
This was completely valuable. Def s couple things I did not know
Whew homie said if you gotta got to the bathroom just stay there 😂
With that pre-tip it just makes it sound like it's going to be a rough time.😂
crazy you need to add the disclaimer in the beginning
i like your hit box with the lights in your room. idk if it actually a it box but its cool

That’s what I’m sayin, heard that jaunt and remembered ima nerd frfr
Not going to Evo but will be at defend the north in a couple of weeks. Very useful info here especially about start.gg
and now i wait for dude to make a "Im proud" type of video when Mark stomped out Afro lmao
Oh if you only you made this video for Dreamhack Dallas 😅, I had to learn all this while there trying to compete, on my own
Oh wow thank you phidx, i literally needed this😂
You're so goated for this
Good luck to everyone going!! Especially good luck to my fellow Yoshi's 😏
Tourney etiqutte #1: Hygiene
asking people to shower you're trying to move mountains with that statement 😝 Evo needs a deodarant sponsor.
How do you plan to restream Evo from your hotel room? In my experience hotels are notorious for having bad internet. Do you call ahead and make sure you have a wired connection to a decent internet source for each hotel you go to at every major you go to?
awesome video, thanks phi
Solid advice Phi. I hope you have fun at EVO :)
Good luck and enjoy~!
ALSO BRING A PACK OF GUM JUST IN CASE. YA NEVER KNO
Bro, watching Lily beat Harada after watching you train her was really special. Kudos
That first part of the vid... i felt that. In general your hygiene is suppose to ve A1 at all times. Overall these are some good tips.
10:02 maybe I am stupid but I can't find any info about this. Totally want to see the clip of this

Make a vid about Arslan "The GOAT" Ash winning EVO

Triple digit heat in Las Vegas… it’s gonna be hot 😂
Deodorant and shower or bust 😆
the golden rule.
big event = shower beforehand
"Most of my fans are tekken 8 players" me 👀 1:06
Just shower before the first day and re up on deo everyday at the least.
Do they not ship out badges if you bought them early? I feel like thatll help tremendously
nah people would just forget them or lose them

The fact that Phidx has to tell you to not be stinky is concerning

I knew that the 1st tip was hygiene but I expected the 1st word for this video was just SHOWER followed by silence
SHOWER AND WEAR DEODORANT
Never change that outro man, so good
Is there an EVO like event in Europe?
And ensure you have a hotel room in advance so you don't have a to adopt a wild PhiDX to sleep on your floor.
evo should get a sponsorship with a deodorant brand
I’m soo shocked by the amount of people who don’t shower, like I’ve never been to a major tournament. But the amount of people begging to have a shower and bring deodorant is ridiculous.
It is my first time at EVO for tekken 8
IM TERRIFIED
Not showering and wearing deodorant gives you a competitive advantage.
