    R.I.P Amy and Rory 💔
    Also R.I.P. my kitty Bellatrix, who passed away a few weeks ago. Someday this video will make me smile.
    Also, I did see "P.S." after this, though I was mostly spoiled for it. Damn spoilers.

    The bit at the end? In Amy's very first episode we glimpsed this moment where little Amy is waiting in the garden, hearing the Tardis return, but then we don't see it arrive so we assume that she just dreamed that moment... but now we find out in 'Take Manhattan' that Amy has always known that the Doctor came back that night and told her that she'll be able to go with him and have all these adventures, but not until she's much older. From the way Amy describes it, it seems that she's always remembered this happening but never mentioned it to the Doctor - and she knows that he'll now see her one last time, as the little girl he first met all those years ago...

    • @jciarra
      @jciarra 3 года назад +5

      I have the same thoughts, especially since throughout her story she had such vivid and clear memories of him, it makes sense that it’s partly because of him going back. I don’t think it’s takes anything away from the Eleventh Hour either because her frustration was more so that the people around her didn’t believe her and tried to make her think it he was an imaginary friend.

    • @petersvillage7447
      @petersvillage7447 3 года назад +6

      @@jciarra Absolutely, and I even think it adds to The Eleventh Hour - especially as that odd little moment was always there, so it seems to have been the intention that her story would always end this way. Besides, I love the idea of the Doctor going back to the little girl that he's spent all this time watching over, and seeing her one last time as the child he first met. It's somehow even more poignant than the farewell we got to see...

    • @Longshanks1690
      @Longshanks1690 3 года назад +2

      But that doesn’t make sense because Amy in The Eleventh Hour clearly saw him last when he promised to come back in 5 minutes.
      Also because that violates the preestablished rules about the Doctor crossing into his own time stream. I always thought it was just a sweet, poetic ending but nothing more as if that actually happened, it seriously screws up the timeline.

    • @Longshanks1690
      @Longshanks1690 3 года назад

      @@jciarra She screamed at The Doctor “Then why did you say five minutes?!”
      She clearly hadn’t been gently let down but reassured of what was to come, she had not since him since she was 7, and felt cheated. She was angry at him for not coming back as she spent her whole life believing he was going to.

    • @petersvillage7447
      @petersvillage7447 3 года назад

      @@Longshanks1690 Okay, so why do we get that odd little moment in The Eleventh Hour where Amy seems to hear the TARDIS coming back? It's there for a reason (and fits in with the general theme of the 11th Doctor's era being back-to-front). I do recognise the pre-established rules you mention, but if you're expecing pre-established rules to matter in Doctor Who you haven't been watching it long enough.

    I always thought that he couldn’t visit because they both are now “fixed points”. Similar to Jack and his reintroduction with 10 and how even the Tardis took awhile to adjust to his existence. But since Amy and Rory’s lives are fixed because of the Angels it makes even more complicated and impossible. Not sure how valid this theory is, but it’s how I processed it.

    • @kateorgera5907
      @kateorgera5907 3 года назад +2

      Well, think about the Weeping Angels' first appearance in "Blink," too - the Doctor and Martha couldn't bring Billy Shipton back with them from the 60s because his death was a fixed point - Billy's death had to happen so that Sally could get the info she needed to defeat the angels and send the Tardis back to the Doctor. Bringing Billy back causes a paradox. In the same way, the Doctor knowing Amy and Rory live out their lives means he can't rescue them, or else he creates a paradox. Of course, I'm not sure if that explains why he can't *visit*, but maybe your Tardis idea fills that hole in.

  • @bryanwalton
    @bryanwalton 3 года назад +4

    Might be able to clear 2 things up?
    1) The Doctor going back to visit young Amelia was foreshadowed in Smith’s first episode, The Eleventh Hour. Right before Amy joins the Doctor on the Tardis she seemingly “dreams” of the Doctor coming back to visit her as a child. *This* episode implies that that wasn’t a dream, but a memory.
    2) Within the episode the Doctor says time can’t be rewritten once it’s been read. The Doctor reads Amy and Rory’s name on the gravestone. So now he can’t go back and get them in 1938 because he already has the knowledge that he doesn’t go and save them.
    As for simply visiting Amy and Rory...Wibbly wobbly, Timey Whimey?

    One of the things people got irritated by at the time was the Doctor healing River's wrist with regeneration energy. It was felt to be too sentimental. To further compound this supposed felony, the revelations in The Time of the Doctor seemed to contradict this moment. However, I think this is the point when the Doctor realised he was on his last life, as he only had a limited supply of energy to give. That's my headcanon, anyway.

      @Chris Travers It was a mid-season finale, though, and at the time everyone went in knowing it was their final episode. Sometimes I think going in absolutely spoiler-free doesn't always work since episodes like these confuse people as Amy and Rory leave in episode 5 of 13. Same thing as Oswin in Asylum, everyone at the time went in knowing Jenna Coleman replaces Amy and Rory so her appearance during their era is a shock.

  • @CrankyGrandma
    @CrankyGrandma 3 года назад

    The whole time can be rewritten unless you read it is nonsense. Then again, the doctor lies. I assume he’s dumbing down in order to make something comprehensible to Amy. Because he reads stuff all the time and changes things. Then the writing changes. But despite the logical holes in this story, I loved it as the conclusion of Amy’s story. She went from reluctant and running from her wedding, to choosing Rory and her marriage over everything else. Heckuvan Arc. Her story made perfect sense, even if the plot of this one didn’t always. It goes back to the episode “Amy ‘s Choice”. It’s always been about that episode. That episode showed us everything happening in her Arc from there on.
    As far as the Angel sending her back to the same time - that was established in Blink. The angels tended to send people to the same time stream (the doctor and that cop both were hit with the 1969 Angel). I like to think River can go back and see her parents- maybe with the Vortex Manipulator she can take Brian. She’d probably have to blip into Paris and take a boat over to NYC but she could do it.

    Mark 16:54. The Lady Liberty one, was funny, but it doesn't make sense to me. It is hollow, and people go inside her every day. So how does that work? 🤔
    Also, why was, River, not sent back? Is it because they chose to do whatever it was that was done to her wrist? 🤔
    Edit! Mark 24:53. Okay then, did she swim or wade to the mainland? 🤔
    You live in NYC? Or NY in general? You and the blonde, two of my favorites relatively in one place! 🎊🎉 (Why can't I remember the blonde's name?) 🤔

    In the episode “The god complex” the door Amy opens foreshadows Amy’s and Rory’s ending showing the weeping angels in that room. Now the Doctor did open another door, door #11 which the Doctor also sees the cause of his end but it doesn’t show us what that will be until the very end of Matt Smith’s run. Also, the reason why Doctor can’t just go visit Amy and Rory back in time is because New York is time locked which is why the Tardis had trouble de materializing in that era. This will be brought up in passing in another future episode, but won’t go into too much detail.

    Yep, this episode, along with the conclusion of _The Big Bang,_ create some inconsistencies with Amy's character...and the _Universe,_ which, much like questions in _Lost,_ are never readdressed. Leading people to imagine what they think happened, then leaving it in comments with the words "fun fact" at the beginning.

    Someone needs to explain to me why the Doctor can’t just land in London and get the boat or a plane over to New York and then live with Amy and Rory for the rest of their life. Their grave says they died. Their grave doesn’t say that the Doctor couldn’t have lived happily ever after with them.

    • @dcaslick

      He didn’t even need to go that far. Just travel to Boston or Philadelphia. That should be far enough from New York.

      Honestly I think it’s just a plot hole coming from a very weak reason for the Doctor not just immediately going to get them. In my head I just figure the Doctor himself can’t be in New York at the time Amy and Rory were. The TARDIS isn’t the problem, the reason it won’t go there is because it knows the DOCTOR mustn’t end up there again.
      It’s not air tight but that’s how I prefer to think of it.

      @@jacobcurle8964 and yet we can 100% guarantee at some point in the future the Doctors going to end up in the past, in New York. And it’s never going to be addressed. Moffat himself even acknowledged it doesn’t make any sense he said something like ‘show the kids a gravestone and they’ll know it’s final’ something like that 🤦🏻‍♂️ A bit like the absolutely calamity of his choice to erase all of RTD’s work by having it disappear down cracks in the universe. Every single thing came back as normal when the universe was rebooted. This is clear from Torchwood and Sarah Jane adventures set after series 5 of Doctor Who. But now half the writers seem to think that everything was still erased and lost because Moffat never explained it properly. He just said ‘yeh everything came back, unless I made any plot holes, they stayed erased’. And then there was his reaction to the 50th where he erased even more of RTD’s character building and acknowledged that with another flippant comment and plot that didn’t really make any sense.
      It’s these flippant, non caring answers to massive changes or events that sort of delegitimizes them a bit. So yeh we’re sad that Amy and Rory have been sent to the past. But.....it doesn’t make any sense 🤣

    Oh boy. Here we are then. This episode. . . ok ok....just know that they really did do as much as they could with Amy's character. Squeezed out as much content as they could. It was time. And she has to move on and become Marvel's Nebula. And a sexy Jumanji character. And right now as this is posted she's .... blogging on you tube with her own channel. Last video on her channel has her training for another role. :)
    We knew it was going to happen. Parties don't last forever :/ I even like how they tactfully surprised us with it. Nice and fast. Like ripping off a band aid. No?

    The tombstone read Rory & Amy's written in stone, they were dead.
    The Doctor could never go to them, they would already be gone.
    That's what the Doctor said to Amy, before she let the Angel take her...
