      @nagualdesign 7 лет назад +7

      I suppose that since it landed softly on the water there would have been little impact on the gimbal, and the fact that the battery was almost empty is what limited any serious corrosion issues. Still pretty surprising that it recovered though. It shows that DJI use good quality seals, even though they don't claim that Mavics are weather sealed.

    That was awesome!!!
    I lost mine in a river and fortunately the GPS showed exactly where it went under and oddly enough that is exactly where it stayed!! It took a bit to g4et it out though due to the strong current, it was about 4 feet under, tucked nicely on the downstream side of a huge boulder. I got it back as well, dried it out and it works!!
    Cheers to happy endings \m/

    It's a great feeling when your Mavic still works & takes off after a catastrophe,,, mine fell 21 stories down to the ground,,, as I was walking towards it all I can picture in my mind was the Mavic in a million pieces,, to my luck a tree broke the fall and it landed on grass,, only the gimbal cover was cracked and 2 propellers were broken in half,,, after testing it, it was as if nothing ever happened,, worked well 😊

    I Lost my P3P...knew about which building it had landed on, but couldn't find, even looking with another drone. FIVE and a Half months later, I got a call "we found your drone" on a roof. It had been in the weather, Dec 17 through the end of May-dozens of thunderstorms and blistering sunlight. I cleaned it, dried it, through the old battery away, updated firmware, installed new propellers. Miraculously! It Flew, and perfectly, and the camera worked perfectly For Only 2 days...then it started being erratic. One motor sticks on full power (suspect ESC) and causes bird to flip over. So I'll send back to DJI for a fix. They are made pretty well I must say

    I think the wind was the big problem.I noticed you were only reaching low 20s.You flew with the wind away so when you returned you needed more battery to cover same distance.When flying long range, fly against the wind away then you will have enough battery to return when it tells you.Nice rescue.👍

  • @reconnaissancesquadron222

    Inspiring. I have a Mavic Pro which survived a massive fall. I changed the props and it flew on for months as if nothing had happened. But it had. It lost GPS function mid-flight and wouldn't fly several months later, resetting to factory settings and the like made no difference. It needed a big repair but it had it and it is flying beautifully again.
    I also had a crash with a Parrot Anafi, it broke an arm. I couldn't find anybody to do the repair so I tried taping it back together to see if anything else was wrong. It flew just fine. Wow. I then took the tape off, glued the break back together and taped it up again, also adding a similar (minimal) amount of tape to the other front arm for balance. Don't despair, it isn't always as bad as you fear.

    Dude! This is epic! DJI should feature you in a commercial! The only thing I would have tried different is is placing it in distilled water (as its a poor conductor of electricity and would of in theory help break up any mineral deposits) first before the anhydrous (i.e. rice or desiccant) . But hey it flew! Congrats!

      I did run it under the faucet for a while. I figured the damage had been done as far as water goes, so I thought a little more wouldn't hurt. It literally smelled like fish and mud. Dirt came out of the vents as the water washed it out so it's a good thing I did.

    So 3 months on, does it still work or has the inevitable corrosion killed it?
    For anyone watching, rice does nothing if you don't clean out the corrosion causing elements. It's not the water itself that breaks electronics, it's the impurities, hence why you can cool electronics with distilled water, etc.
    Best thing to do is clean it all out with isopropyl alcohol and then dry it out.

    I'm not surprised. I've seen this with mobile phones several times. I even washed my Nokia 6500 Classic in the washing machine, and it came out fine.
    1. Fresh water is really bad at conducting electricity, so any shorts are very unlikely
    2. You crashed at low battery, meaning even lower current in the whole system.
    3. Modern electronics use way more custom made enclosed chips and processors. They are water resistant if not watertight in themselves.
    4. Modern electronics run on very low current. 1.5 v and very low power consumption. This raises the requirements for conductivity a great deal, meaning shorts are even more unlikely.
    The most likely place to have a short, is actually on you battery leads, which would cause massive power drain, quickly. And I guess that would also help protect the rest of the system. Most high end systems that use LiPo have power surge protection. Because LiPos can fail dramatically. And we don't want even more heat end fire in such a scenario :)

    The reason your drone still worked perfectly is probably because on the DJI charging docking stations, the circuit board inside is coated with a water proofing layer which is known as "conformal coding"! If DJI go to the trouble of protecting their chargers with such care, I'd bet my weeks wages the drones insides have as much, if not more, protection on it than we could ever know. Check out RUclips channel "Drone Valley" this guy is an engineer & love taking g DJI stuff to bits to see how they work! lol
    The rice idea to dry it out probably help a bit too as that stuff is know to dry mobile phones out when they get a dunk!

    • @NatasataN666

      That's not a myth. Even big cell phone companies recommend rice after the device being flooded. 1- Remove battery 2- Let sit in rice for a few days. The silica gels will only make the process faster but who has a tupperware of that at home right on the spot. Almost every household has a box of rice.

    My parrot mambo spent a year and 2 months outside when I lost it, through snow, rain, freezing and hot temperatures. I spotted one of it’s propellers sticking out of the ground when I found it and dug it up out of all the debris it was under. Never thought it would work but it’s flying around again! Only thing I notice is the battery drains faster. Incredible that it still works though.

    The water was sweet water with not much minerals. When electronics get wet its the minerals that cause the short circuit and eventually killing the electronics. Good job man!

      GridVids Good save! I like to fly over water too, and yesterday a bunch of birds kept swarming my Mavic no matter what direction I flew and being over a lake I just punch home. But I think I'm going to invest in the flotaion attachment for water landing and take off.

      Glad to hear you didn't lose your Mavic from the birds,I've had them do that to me too. I would like to get some floaters as well soon.

  • @sergg7992
    @sergg7992 7 лет назад +4

    It is a prank... can't be real as the circuitry would have shorted once hit the water, on top of that corrosion would mess up circuits. No matter how you dry it and what with, there are laws of physics, as well as chemical elements that would preclude you from successfully operating your drone again. Don't get me wrong, Im a Mavics fan and owner, just don't do BS well.

    • @GridVidsKyleKaestner
      @GridVidsKyleKaestner  7 лет назад

      hahaha 🤣 So you're calling me a liar?? You think I made this up for a company I have no ties with? I paid for my Mavic just like everyone else does Im not going to waste my time making a B.S. video trust me its real.

    • @sergg7992
      @sergg7992 7 лет назад +2

      GridVids, there is no need for me to call you anything. I'm stating the obvious. If you know how circuitry works, unless it's water resistant, it will behave according to laws of physics. Sorry to break this to you, but there is no magic in the real world.
      A++ for the effort and "Hollywood" show.

    • @GridVidsKyleKaestner
      @GridVidsKyleKaestner  7 лет назад

      I'm an electrician by trade so trust me I do know how circuitry works. The battery was dead when the Mavic hit the water, no current was running thru the circuit board so nothing was fried. I'm still flying the same magic Mavic that spent 6 days in the lake right here in the real world.

    • @sergg7992
      @sergg7992 7 лет назад +1

      GridVids may I ask how the battery was dead before hitting the ground?

Maybe its time to accept it that is gone even i have chance to recover it but after i watch your video you give me hope. Thanks for sharing sir. Godbless

    I lost my mavic mini in a tree recently and after endless ways of trying I eventually gave up and let the wind do the job - sure enough 5 days later the drone was reachable and after spending days in freezing winter temps when i got it back nothing malfunctioned. These things are quite rugged!

    Great job GridVids. Unbelievable you could find it in that water. You where lucky to find it in six days, you could have spent a month searching for it. Good to know Mavic can fly after days in water. Thanks for sharing experience.

    Holy cow that’s amazing :O
    Here’s a story of mine similar:
    I had my spark smacked into a pond by a goose (My fault, I was way too close to the goose, I should have seen it coming). Thank god it didn’t tip 90 degrees and shut off in the lake lol, I thought it was a goner. Lost signal and everything. Tried to fly up as much as possible, and saw it right below the water surface, then it came up barely and I throttled it up as much as I could and flew it the 10 feet back to me on shore. Yanked the battery out and let it air dry for 4 days, and it has worked perfectly for months after the fact :)
    DJI makes some amazing drones lol. Mine was only in there for a few seconds, but I can’t believe that with all that time in the water, yours still worked as well.
    Congratulations and happy flying :D
