It's ironic. One moment you have a quiet scene of the city - nothing is going on that's remarkable - and the next, there you have it - a plane is flying over the city. An average citizen from post-1998 Hong Kong would be like "WTF is happening here...?"
Nicely done, I was a beta tester for the 9 Dragons KaiTak scenery for FS9 so have flown this approach MANY times and you coped well with the crosswind.
I was in Hong Kong in 1996. Yeah, the dramatic landing at Kai Tak Airport was a good introduction to the Hong Kong Beat. When the plane was coming down to land, look out the window at the ground, and the shoddy and packed apartment blocks get closer and closer, and your eyes get bigger and bigger. And then suddenly, they disappear and one sees grass, and then the runway. Looking sideways out the window, would see the ocean nearby.
Man flying into Kai Tak was truly an experience when I was in my teenage years. The best view was from the cockpit of a 747 or the nose in first class. It was so easy from airport to my hotel in Tsim Sha Tsui within 10 minutes on a good day by taxi. Now it takes over 30 minutes from airport to TST by the express train. By the way great videos Matt!
Your videos are just great! Sometimes I have not enough time to fly, then I watch at least one of your videos. It makes a lot of fun to watch and listen and they are really informative, I already learned alot from your flights. Thank you!
Perfect touchdown. Plus you're simulating very realistically to the original Kai Tak, my favorite airport in the world. But here are some suggustions -You're a little bit low and slow at Stonecutters area, making you seem struggling and dangerous holding the aircraft back onto the descend lane. -You didn't seem to align up with the runway13 at the certain point. The restriction wrote that you should be on the heading of 136° as soon as you're above the threshold of the stopway. -Finally, you can read the approach chart about this aerodrome. You will find that you're final airspeed is a little bit low, your descend from 300 to 30 is far too fast, and another thing is that you can probably turn of the Proximity Warning System according to the chart. Anyway, a good approach to a good airport. I like it.
I did this approach for my 14th birthday in a. Professional 747 simulator,, almost a year ago. My guide said I was one of the only people to be able to pull this off! Had an amazing time and am going to do it again for my birthday this year hopefully!
Cool video, I used to fly this in a DC-8 in the early 70s and P-3s in the 80s, back then we had to worry about violating Chinese airspace, much steeper and greater rates of turn back then.
Excellent video Matt. This is, in my opinion, your best series of video's. It is after all, the series from which I discovered your channel :-) I wonder if you might look at doing a video at Sandane. I've been flying around and looking the at Sandane area (ENSD) with it's NDB/LOC to circling approach in the Norwegian Fjords. Challenging and beautiful.
Matt, when you install the scenery, you can have the option to install without the SDK I think, which takes away the ground polygons for the airport, but increases the frame rates dramatically...
Nice video as usual Matt, when using fsrecorder to replay the NGX and 77X, you just have to arm the spoilers before touchdown, by using the Shift+/ key, if they are in the retracted before the start of the replay, or if they are deployed its / to retract then shift +/ to arm, it will work repeatedly.
Do you need a frequency/course for this approach? I'm currently flying from KLAX-VHHX and i've installed the "VHHX SID/STAR Hack" but there is nothing in the NAV RAD page of the FMC.
Hello Matt Can you enlighten me that when the aircraft approaches the Checkerboard, it turn right to align with RWY 13, what is the angle of turning. To a layman like me, I would have thought it is a 90-degree turn, which I am sure is not correct. Thanks in advance for your elp.
Matt do you know if you can change the aersoft A318/19 mfds to set as captains only. Or if there is any performance improving tips as i stuggle to fly the thing with only about 5fps
As a Hong Konger, I'd say you pronounced "Cheung Chau" pretty good :)
For some reason that clip before the intro was so funny to me. xD
***** I have no idea. I think it had something with that there was no sound. xD
Wow that was somewhat funny it was just like the plane saying hi in a little kid voice

my mates might think i'm weird but i love this series lol
i think you would do kerbal space program justice.
Practicing the Kai Tak Approach in Kerbal Space Program. That'd be hilarious and interesting at the same time.
OMG! I have waited for a new "WORLDS HARDEST APPROACH" for a very long time!
PuddingSimulations yah but this vid was out 2 years ago

Oh well, Kai Tak Airport must remain in flight simulators (if not already). It's good training for pilots, a good challenge. And, as a souvenir of it.
Fantastic Landing.!! Thumbs Up respect.. all manually..
I still remember airplanes flying over my head less than 200 ft while executing the turn (I live in Hong Kong)

Thanks Matt..brings back memories from years ago watching the planes when I was a kid :D Kai Tak ended its services in 1998 for the current one.
Great stuff. Have been looking for this for ages!
Stonkin landing Matt. Cheers for the replays, it does add to the vid. Nice one.
Awesome video Matt!
Been looking for a video of what a modern airliner such as the 77W landing from the flight deck at VHHX. Thanks for the upload!
OMG Thank you so much Matt I thought you abandoned hardest approach! Thank you! Kai Tak was awesome!!!!!
Amazing video once again, the crabbing was fantastic... great job keeping her centered
Wow Matt. That approach and landing was spectacular. Congrats with your landing Captain Davies.
Thanks Matt
Brilliant video and flying
Thanks for replays 😊

Great work Matt. Everything was great smooth approaching and kiss landing, also loved the replay part. Keep it :).
Beautiful approach and landing, very well done!!
fantastic approach and landing matt!
Really enjoyed that - nice landing, Matt.

Nice approach and landing! The graphics is just amazing
Great approach!
Great video, Matt! Keep up the good work :)
Great video Matt! :)
You are flying that B773 like a Pro, nicely done.
Cool video, I used to fly this in a DC-8 in the early 70s and P-3s in the 80s, back then we had to worry about violating Chinese airspace, much steeper and greater rates of turn back then.
Best youtuber / streamer in my opinion.
Matt, nice video as always! Keep on your good work. Love to watch your videos ;)

Excellent video Matt.

Excellent video Matt!! Loved it!1 keep it up plezzz
Beautiful vid Matt!
How would you like to do an episode in X-Plane, just to try it out? :D
Look at his 'uploads' section...
I mean that he does a Worlds hardest approaches video, I know his playlist ^^
don't know why your videos are so addictive
nice smooth landing matt !
thks matt to bring back my childhood memories
Nice video Matt! Keep up the amazing videos ;)
Damn Matt that landing was perfectly done
Great pilot skills! Tuff landing
That approach was really nice.
This was awesome. Maybe the best I have seen on RUclips.com
matt could u do the infamous 742/743 landing please
amazing one matt!! :D keep up the good work
Matt, when you install the scenery, you can have the option to install without the SDK I think, which takes away the ground polygons for the airport, but increases the frame rates dramatically...
Nice Landing :) Did you Try Lukla Airport Approach??
I just flew VHHH-KEWR Cathay Pacific in that plane on fsx. Good aircraft!
Looks like a real video of the landing .. awesome
Perfect Matt... Good one
Good job! I love the scenery :)
Belynz flew over my house!!! XD
Bravo .. beautiful landing
Great landing M8!
Hey Matt Great Video! You should consider doing the KEGE Eagle/Vail approach in this series.
I just finished KLAX-VHHX. It was a beautiful approach, and it turned out to be identical to yours.
Did it take more than 10Hrs?
+Great Britain Around there, maybe 12.
+Deatjed Okay👍
Wait,do you mean real 12 hours? You sit there flying on your pc for 12 hours?!
+Jerrick Rennwald I don't sit there, I either sleep, play another game, or do other shit.
you had that kind of outside view sir?
normally the camera will go along with plane but this was fixed
good job! im still waiting for aerosoft or orbx to put out a kai tek scenery add-on.
would be fun to see all the detail they produce.
Do you need a frequency/course for this approach? I'm currently flying from KLAX-VHHX and i've installed the "VHHX SID/STAR Hack" but there is nothing in the NAV RAD page of the FMC.
Good shit matt..
Matt how do you get the AI real life airline textures? I'm sick of seeing Pacifica or orbit Airlines while I'm in a real airline
Best Triple 7 approach I have ever seen, whats up with the terrain callout?
Yay, Kai Tak! Thanks for this :)
Love your intro!
A little question...
How the hell you didn't get a FSX OOM error with this very nice scenery and that airplane???
Very smooth landing!
Absolutely Amazing
Hey Matt. How did you install the VHHX Sid/Star Hack thing. I cant figure it out
excellent video, I will consider myself an accomplished flight simmer when I can fly the checkerboard approach manually into Kai Tak
Could you explain controller used for it? Is it keyboard or any joystick
Hello Matt
Can you enlighten me that when the aircraft approaches the Checkerboard, it turn right to align with RWY 13, what is the angle of turning. To a layman like me, I would have thought it is a 90-degree turn, which I am sure is not correct. Thanks in advance for your elp.
40 degrees should be necessary
Nice landing Matt! Next video could you do a flight on the iFly 747 V2?
Alrighty.. Maybe you should continue your awesome funny video! Like in the Q400😂
hey Matt whats the name of that scenery..looks fantastic or should i say how did you get your graphics to look so great?
Matt do you know if you can change the aersoft A318/19 mfds to set as captains only. Or if there is any performance improving tips as i stuggle to fly the thing with only about 5fps
God, no wonder they closed this airport down. Congrats to every pilot who ever landed Kai Tak successfully. My hats off to you.
You mean the thousands, except for one incident in the 90's?
really nice video matt! req Eilat (LLET) for the next episode, also nice landing :)
lOVE YOUR VIDS
Matt Davies what adding did you use to see other types of airplanes and airlines
I saw two mas 747 awesome!Amazing scenery
in the background are a lot of 747's XD but very nice approach and touchdown :)
dude! i love your videossss!! :)
Hi Matt, love your videos. What software do you use to record videos?
Cool video! Nice landing.
Was the cross wind landing planned? Nice landing...
Any pointers on how to get FlyTampa's VHHX into PMDG 747's CDU?
where did you find that beautiful scenery pack???
Your pleasure, my pleasure i believe im correct in saying everybody's pleasure. Good job...
