The song is about teaching a child that is having nightmares how to lucid dream. Lucid dreaming is when you are aware that you are dreaming and rather than waking up immediately you control the dream.
I learned to be a lucid dreamer to escape the loneliness as a child I'll never forget the 1st time I was actually able to fly I worked so hard at it for a few years and after that experience I looked forward to going to sleep and my dreams are vivid and alive and fascinating to this day at 62, though they have not come as frequent since im working long hours. :/... This song blew me away when I heard it, It fills the heart with emotion you can only understand in a lucid dream...
I've changed my dreams several time when something bad was happening and somehow ended up back before the event. Once, I even remembered saying this is not happening it's only a dream and I was back to before the bad event occurred...the dream took another direction. I don't know how I did it, nor do I know if I'll be able to do it again.
For those of us who are older (I’m nearly 59) and we were all listening to this in our mid to late twenties when it was new, how lucky were we? Queensryche was a metal orchestra that produced dozens and dozens of wonderful songs, and this was just one of them! Wow!
I,m gunna give credit where its due!!! these young ladies are beautiful. wow . nobody ever talks about us and why we love rock at our age. thank you so much!
The man playing the guitar was the writer of this song. His name is Chris DeGarmo. He was inspired to write it one night after checking on his daughter who had had a nightmare.
Much more of a rock song by “Take Hold of the Flame” really shows Geoff Tate’s vocal range. Their live performance in Tokyo (I Think) will blow your mind!
You have just dipped your toe into one of the GREATEST voices in rock! Geoff Tate is an, Incredible singer and the ENTIRE band were also GREAT musicians!!. Empire the album was recorded 30 years ago and, If you listen to the entire album in it`s content you would swear it was written yesterday. And, If you REALLY want to expand your Queensryche catalog then, LISTEN to the ENTIRE previous album " Operation Mindcrime" If you dare!. It`s a concept album that tells a story from start to finish.
Great reaction! I used to have Queensryche's live concert in Tokyo on VHS tape back in 1984. I wore that video out! Every time I'd watch it, my Mom (she was a widow at that time) would watch it with me. She would comment "That man is gorgeous!!!" I would laugh and say "MOM!!!UGGGGHHHH!!! 😁😁😁 What I wouldn't give to relive those moments with her. She passed away in 2008 from breast cancer. I miss her sooo much 💔💔💔
The song is inspired by a book about lucid dreaming that the guitarist of the band read, and when one of his children had a bad dream, he was inspired to write the song. Lucid dreaming is a technique one can develop which allows you to realize you are dreaming without actually waking up, which allows you to then control your dream and take it where you want. I’ve dreamt lucidly, and it’s indescribable. I felt electric (I don’t know how else to describe it) being in another world that was just as real as the waking world.
it`s about lucid dreaming , the ability to know you are dreaming , and direct your your dreams in the way you want !hard to learn , not everyone can do it , but worth it if you can !
No, no it wasn't. It was about Chris DeGarmo's life event when his daughter (a very young at the time) had a night mare and he calmed her down. It inspired him to make this like a lullaby of sorts.
I like the way you did this. Just let the song play for the most part. They are one of my favorite bands. Quite nice to watch you lovely ladies enjoy the song. I do believe the song is about the dream world, and being able to guide what you dream about. "Living twice at once you'll learn, your safe from pain in the dream domain, a soul set free to fly."
I loved this song from the first time I heard it way back in the early nineties. I played in the band in school, so when I listen to something like this I can hear every single instrument in it. It's absolutely stunning and still gives me chills every time I listen to it. Perfection!
last time i saw an interview about this song.. it was a lullaby written to his daughter who dreamed of a death of a loved one.. hence the lyrics all about being a dream and to trust him and what he says as he helps guide her through the dream. but that has been decades ago LOL shows my age.. just found you at random and now liked and subbed.. might make a suggestion as i saw it here by someone else also.. geoff tate is a vocal beast with a stellar range.. check out the live version of take hold of the flame to see just how big his range is and doing so while live vs in a studio... he is amazing. like you two. so rock on!!! \m/
@@WineNotReactions oh on a side note.. the video i suggested.. he had been playing a festival and had already been singing for over 4 hours and this was the last song for the night from them. Thank you for replying to me.. not used to beautiful women responding to me LOL might i suggest also a 15 caymus cab... not to expensive by some standards and yet very very good and im not a wine man and loved it. :)
Another great Queensryche song is "Jet City Woman". You really get to see the amazing range of the band. Thank you for doing some great song's. Pink Floyd is my favorite, and I loved your "Time" reaction!
Anybody Listening? Is also beautiful vocally and musically. Probably my favorite Queensryche song. And yes! Geoff Tate, the singer, is gorgeous. Saw him last week in concert and he hasn’t lost any of it!
it's about lucid dreaming which is being aware and conscious that you're dreaming while asleep without waking up and also facing your fears and overcoming them by dreaming anything you like... yeah, it's pretty deep
Love you ladies....and tis song....I had tis song played at my son's funeral....your remark about the ball was spot on..."Losing someone to the game....of life"
You two, in your older age, are still so beautiful. Thank-you for your reaction. This song deals with a young boy, and his "lucid-dreaming". Look up lucid dreaming, if you're wanting to know what it is.
I think the word you used was perfect. "Haunting". That's the best was to describe this song. I saw them live once and it is one of my most memorable concerts.
There are great songs that come around ever so often that captivate or mesmerize you. Songs that start out slow and builds to a crescendo and in the end, the bottom falls out. Free Bird, Stairway To Heaven, I'm Your Captain and Alive just to name a few and this song fits right in with those songs. The Goose bumps start jumping when they hit I with that harmony. A great song that will stand the test of time.
New subscriber here ladies! Thank you for reviewing this masterpiece across all genres; this song is still a great listen. For a 30 year old song it holds up really well; could drop right into the charts today and you would never know. Merry Christmas and be safe!
He trained under a famous voice teacher called David Kyle, who reportedly also worked with Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart, Layne Staley of Alice in Chains, July Garland and Bing Crosby!

The song was about Lucid Dreaming. Being aware of the dream as you are in it. So, in that state, you are aware and actually in control of everything that happens in the dream. Nice review!
Enjoying the Chanel Ladies. You can't go wrong with Devin Townsend. Huge vocal range, bags of charisma & a big rabbit hole of a discography to discover. Most people start with Kingdom EMGTV performance or Deadhead
Watch Queenryche's 'Operation Livecrime'. Your mind will be blown!! Musically and vocally these guys are top notch and on that World Tour which 'Operation Livecrime' was recorded they were the top live band on the planet during that time.
it was a happier thought lol. The lead singer's son woke up from a nightmare crying, apparently, so his dad put him back to sleep and got the inspiration for this song! :)

"Silent Lucidity" was written about a person having a lucid dream. A lucid dream happens when you are aware that you are dreaming, and can control parts of it. DeGarmo got the idea from a book called "Creative Dreaming"

I may be wrong, but pretty sure the lead singer was Classical or Opera trained. Read that somewhere once. You can hear it in his voice and delivery.
I agree! I hear the training in his voice
He trained under a famous voice teacher called David Kyle, who reportedly also worked with Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart, Layne Staley of Alice in Chains, July Garland and Bing Crosby!
