      Which one was your favorite?

    • @mdsnrr
      @mdsnrr  10 месяцев назад +1

      @@r.morgan3965 All four are good bikes but the YZ250X had problems that day. I would probably like it better if it was in better condition and set up better. That said, I think it might be more MX-like than the riding I mostly do now. This would probably be tied for 2nd for me. I thought I would like the GG EX 350F but it was definitely my least favourite. I would probably like it more for 70%MX/25% fast trails/5% technical single track. I didn't like the hard clutch pull and heavy feeling. The Electric Freeride was kind of fun but it would be my third choice if the YZ250X had been running better that day. I wouldn't want it as my main or only bike. Of the four, I liked the YZ250FX a LOT more than any of the others. It was very good on that demo ride and I would like it even more once I got used to it. I have a 2017 YZ250FX that I like a lot but I liked this newer generation FX quite a bit more.
      Lately I've been riding my daughter's modified 2023 Husqvarna TE150 more than my older FX and I really like that bike a lot. I would have really liked to have tried a 2024 TE250 or 250 XC-W (or even a 300 in either or a GasGas 250) but there were huge waits for those. One of those would have ended up being my only demo ride that weekend if I had waited for one of them. I really wish I had gone there a day earlier so I could have demo'd more of the bikes I wanted to try. (Maybe even one or two of the Betas.) It was my first time at the Cord and now I know better for this coming year.

    this bike was one of the best bikes i tried this weekend as well,

      @mdsnrr  Год назад

      I wish I had tried it before the other three when I was fresher and the course was better but even so it was clear that it's a great bike. I left it for later in the day because I thought "I already have this bike so it won't be trying something new like the others". Well I do have one of it's ancestors but the 2024 version is quite a bit better than its already very good predecessors.

    I have owned that bike, I love the enthusiasm, it's not good for what you are trying. It's a race bike. It wants to breathe
    Big bore 2t is what u need

      I agree. The line-ups for the European 2Ts were over an hour long and so I was only able to demo ride the four bikes in these four videos. If I go this year then I will go a day early before the first race day so I can try a few of the bikes I really want.

      Like a XCW-150? that’s what I’m considering between the two. I’m a bigger dude but when I’ve ridden 125/250 2 strokes I definitely preferred the 125. For how light it was.

    • @mdsnrr
      @mdsnrr  6 месяцев назад +1

      @@trigger8152 I got a Husqvarna TE150 last year which is very similar to the same years of KTM 150 XC-W models. In short, I love it. It's very manoueverable and fun to ride and my riding buddies who have tried it also like it a lot. I'm a heavier guy at 200 lbs and the 150 has no lack of power for me on hills and over technical terrain. I've been racing it a bit for the past year and my results are better on that 150 that they were on my own YZ250FX 4-stroke. My Yamaha is still a great bike and very good in many situations (especially on MX tracks) but the 150 2-stroke is much better and less tiring in tight woods. My 2023 150 is the last of the KTM/Husqvarna/GasGas TPI models but the 2024 TBI models are also said to be excellent. The three sub brands are very similar for the same displacements but I personally would buy a KTM rather than the Husky if I was buying a new one. The main reason would be for the aluminum subframe instead of the composite one but the PDS rear suspension would be slightly better going over some obstacles than the linkage on the Husky and the PDS is good enough now to compete with the Husky and GasGas linkage rear suspension in most other places. The Brembo brakes and clutch hydraulics are also better on the KTMs than the Braketec versions on the Husky and GasGas. The KTM airbox breathes better but the Husky might be more watertight. The Husky airbow alaso apparently give a more mellow power delivery to the same base engine but I haven't noticed it to be a problem. Either one would be a great bike but so would a Yamaha YZ250FX. Which will be better for you will depend mainly on where you will ride it the most.

      @@mdsnrr mostly dry desert. Very little chance of really getting it wet or through rivers. I did plan on taking the bike to an MX track just to see what it’s like. The 150 and the 250FX are about the same price I’m just worried about the TBI system if it’s reliable. A 4 stroke just kinda goes but I want something light and easy to learn on with room to get better at the same time. As you can see that’s why I’m stuck between the two bikes 😂

    • @mdsnrr
      @mdsnrr  6 месяцев назад

      @@trigger8152 Both bikes are very reliable and easy to learn on. The decision for me in your case would come down to are you goingf to be rididing a lot of tight, twisty, single track trails in heavily treed forests. If so, the 150 2T might be better. If not (as I assume might be true for the desert), then I would definitely go for the YZ250FX 4T. That will also definitely be better for sand. Good luck with whichever one you choose!

    The many upgrades and refinements since but a downside versus your first generation 2017 YZ250FX is that there is no back up kick start lever on newer ones.

    • @mdsnrr
      @mdsnrr  Год назад

      Unfortunately, my 2017 YZ250FX didn't come with a kick starter either. You can buy a kit for around C$450 but I never did. But I've never had it not start right away with the electric start. BTW, I love your posts on ThumperTalk if you're the same guy.

      @mdsnrr  3 месяца назад

      I think it would sell well if they did -- especially for older guys like me if I didn't stop also occasionally riding/racing a bit of MX. I recently noticed a click bait video suggesting that Yamaha might currently be developing one for next year but I didn't watch it. I'll wait for something more definite and from a more reliable source.

    • @mdsnrr
      @mdsnrr  8 месяцев назад

      The test course was more of a hard enduro style and quite blown out by this point in the weekend and this bike is designed more for faster XC-type terrain. That said, this bike would normally be fine even on this course but I was exhausted by the time I did this demo ride from a full day on the actual race course on my own bike on a hot day and I was stalling the bike where I normally wouldn't have.

    5:25 are you in 1st gear or 2nd?

    • @mdsnrr
      @mdsnrr  Год назад +1

      I just watched that a few times and I can't remember and can't tell. It could have been 1st but I think it was probably 2nd. The dirt there was very loose and silty and was getting very dug up from people getting stuck using too much wheelspin in low gears. The FX has plenty of low end torque and works well with feathering the clutch to find traction and keep going where others came to a stop.

    Do you like the 2023 better then the 2024 model or they the same i am looking to get a yamaha yz250fx in April

    • @mdsnrr
      @mdsnrr  Год назад

      They only had the 2024 there that day to try. It's the only YZ250FX I have ever ridden other than my 2017 YZ250FX. I like my 2017 a lot but I liked the 2024 even more -- and by a pretty big margin. It just seems so much better in several key areas. I don't know how different the 2024 model is from the 2023 model but you could probably find out online pretty quickly from a few articles and reviews. If they are both in the same generation (frame, engine, etc.) then I would probably choose based on price and availabilty. I think that the 2024 MIGHT be the first of it's latest generation though. If so, I would seriously consider the 2024 even for a noticably higher price because it really is that good. (Some people don't like to buy the first year for any new generation bike but I don't think that should be a worry with a modern Yamaha.)

    • @mdsnrr
      @mdsnrr  Год назад +1

      I checked and it is the YZ250F that is a new generation for 2024, not the 2024 YZ250FX which is very similar to the 2023 YZ250FX. So, I would pick between a 2023 or 2024 based mainly on price and availabilty. The 250FX is supposed to start a new generation in 2025 that will be similar to the 2024 changes to the 250F line. I hope that helps.

    • @mdsnrr
      @mdsnrr  Год назад

      @@travisbates6049 A 250 is definitely enough -- especially for racing. They have plenty of power and are way less tiring. In fact, I did all my races this past year on a Husky TE150 for that same reason. A 350 4T would be ideal for me for MX but it would be too much for my Vet body off-road.
