I've been watching videos comparing the two forces (the Turks and the greeks) for a couple of days now. What's amazing is that in the comment section of those videos the most liked and commented comment always is the one that Greek expressing respect and love for the Turks or a Turk expressing love and respect for the greeks and trash-talking about the politicians of both countries.
You know, Turks and Greeks and Kurds and Arabs lived for 1000 years together in and around Anatolia. And all this time sultans, emperors, marshal turned politicians, religious fundementalists and traitor high ranking officers who sold their country FUCKED THESE PEOPLE OVER AND OVER. Why you invade from Izmir to Ankara (650 fucking kilometers deep) if Sevre Treaty says that Greeks can defend Greek people in Ottoman Izmir? Why when English leaves Greek Cypriots can kill Turkish Cypriots just to clain the whole island for themselves to join Greece? Why now thousands of little islands given to Greece by Italy (as they were meant to be returned back to Turkey) gives Greece the authortiy to control whole eastern Mediterranean? Why Europe, France especialy (since England is not Europe now) backes Greece to do this shit like England backed Greece back then? Can you see a connection here? Turks conquered Greece in the 14th and 15th centuries. Greece is trying that in the 20th and 21st centuries. For the mere people, how can I hate my neighbour? I would die to defend them right? So again and again just for the will of Europe, Russia, US, Greece wants to fight with Turkey 3rd time in a row.
Because the all area have Turkey now before was Greece. For this reason all the acient buildings, theatre they have greeks inscriptions. Everybody now how many genocides you make to take this place. Armenians, Greeks Assyrian and Kurdish
Please keep your respect if you’re going to debate with someone you never saw and never will on the internet, because you can’t change someone’s deep political thoughts, especially when you don’t even know them. In the end we all used to live together, Turkey might have invaded Greece illegally, but what about the things the Greeks did to Turkish civilians? See, there’s no end to this, it’s war, what did you expect?

While serving with the British Army, I spent about two and a half years stationed in Cyprus. During my time there, I was aware of SIX separate incidents of weapons fire across "The Green Line". "The Green Line" is how the British Army referred to the UN controlled border between Turkish Northern Cyprus and Greek Southern Cyprus. These incidents always caused tensions to spike and the threat level to be raised. Cyprus is a hotly contested issue between both Turkey and Greece, and both sides are more than willing to trade fire, even if it is against the rules of engagement.
@@davebeattie9573 Where did u serve? My cousin was posted in kyrenia. Also he was mention about incidents about shooting both sides but not in lethal way.
@@50caliberr After basic and trade training in the UK, I was posted to Germany (Gutersloh), Cyprus (Episkopi and Troodos) and then back to Germany (Bruggen). Never got to go to the Northern (Turkish controlled) side of Cyprus, as it is technically not recognized as a legitimate state and as a serving soldier, it was forbidden. As I was serving in the last years of the Cold War, Cyprus was always considered as a "holiday posting", in that you weren't on the lines against the Warsaw Pact. Yet in Germany there was always an understanding that because both sides had the power to wipe out all life on the planet many times over that there would never be an actual conflict, as the political leaders of both sides knew that any conflict between them wouldn't remain conventional for long. This meant that no matter how problematic things got, you always felt sure that a fight wouldn't happen. It was a common thought among those I served with, that these tension increases were actually done deliberately to justify/increase defense spending. The situation in Cyprus was always a precarious one. Each time there was an exchange of fire across the Green Line, there was a very real sense that this would result in a renewal of the conflict. Of the six incidents I was aware of, two resulted in casualties with one of those being fatal. The UN peace keepers along the Green Line had little chance of stopping either side if things degenerated in to all out war, and this would see the UK plunged into yet another war, due to the UK having two Sovereign Base Areas in the Greek controlled side, and they are technically UK sovereign territory. This feeling of impending conflict felt heightened as neither side had the fear of global extermination to worry about, as they were both in NATO, and NATO wouldn't use nukes on their own allies.
@@davebeattie9573 I feel you in the same way. But current conflict seems only occur to regional sea battle or conflicts. I don't expect a war or something.. I think both sides wont got into a full scale combat. Both country economies are not suspend long orientated conflict. Nato should take a part in both sides to erase that anticipation in aegean sea. If it may be happens, greece and turkey must become partners in aegean waters to find natural hydro carbon based resources.
Dave Beattie Correction: The south is The Republic of Cyprus which is the legitimate government of the island and internationally recognized, not “Greek Southern Cyprus”. There is no “Turkish Northern Cyprus”, but there is a puppet state in the northern Turkish occupied portion of the island which is recognized by no other country except the illegally occupying power, ie Turkey.
Thanks for the review. Was looking forward to your take on this. I think both air forces agreed to fly on SIM mode for some time. I know for a while both parties agreed to disarm their patrol flights but that might be a thing of the past now.
In TurAF terminology the term "Long" (Uzun) means Long Range AA missile and "Short" (Kısa) is for Short Range AA missile. So Hellenic Viper is armed with 2 AIM-120 and 2 AIM-9 according to Turkish pilot...
I'd think "SIM" mode would be an extra layer of safety to prevent an international incident. When you're not engaged in hostilities with any other countries, and you see a handful of aircraft coming toward you, it's almost certainly going to be just a probe of your defenses or diplomatic-directed show of aggression with no intent to actually engage (e.g. what US and Russia do a lot). It's also why they never pulled the trigger, another layer of safety (but in case they did out of instinct, SIM mode would still prevent anything).
no, it's a training aid that allows you to use the weapons sensors, display fully and press pickle to ensure all the valid sequences for a valid weapon release are followed. Everything is training, even if it's a live intercept, it's training, so SIM seems absolutley valid, although, it does give away the mental state of the pilot and he doesnt seem stressed or under threat.
as a turk with greek friends i 100% agree us turkish military has a rule that we can NEVER ever shoot greek aircraft unless they break this rule first same thing goes for greece we all dogfight on sim mode because we don't want to shoot each other we just want the other person to get out of there with no war starting greek people are nice ngl and politics kinda just separates us two people of two different countries and us dogfighting like this also trains both pilots of the countries aswell
Things are much more complicated than that. First of all what you call a diplomatic show of aggression is not just a perception addressed to the military. Furthermore it has specific name and agenda. Such agenda finds a convenient audience to the hole population of countries with emerging economies that provided a lot of weaponry but fragile enough to keep enormous inflation. Countries with mass population, controlled media and regulated by tight laws of criticism. Countries with a twisted perception of their "vital space" and "interests throughout three continents". Countries with a proven history and present of disregard to international law. Countries with leadership and people with absolute belief in the law of the mightest embedded to their perception of solving differences. Countries with alliances with dictators and invaders, very recent ones. Countries that of course have very low standards of democracy, eternal leaders (or Sultans) making fortunes and palaces on the public treasury, with the highest percentage of imprisoned journalists, judges, officers, teachers and so on, than any other country in the world under charges of "insulting the President" or "anti-countrysname-ism". Which is this country needs no introduction. You just have to listen its President in the G20 summit in Indonesia declaring in front of the international Press that, "coming one night" ,meaning invading to the neighboring country, is his country official dogma or " 2 or 3 persons are not sitting tight" meaning the other country 's Prime minister and minister of Foreign Affairs, as if they are some kind of public clerks of the smallest province of his country, are not behaving the way he wants. This country's officials speaks of the other country 's people as "low life's bastards that need to take swim lessons" (sic: President Erdogan speaking of the Greek people in recent public speech), showing maps with half his neighbour territory as his own. It seems surreal but yes, such a President and surrounding political establishment is a neighbor to Europe. The daily overflights of Greek soil is just another piece of the puzzle in Turkey's hostility that finally aims to militarily invade (under her very own statements besides the true indications) and anex half of the Greek islands because "they are too close and roosters can be heard to us" ( actual claim of President Erdogan during public speech). There was a thought to slaughter the roosters in Greek islands but then we thought that warms would bother him also; apart from the difficulty of the task to extinct warms we find it improper to deprive mr. Erdogan of his perfect match in case he ever made it to our islands. Feel free to educate yourself on the extremities and daily provocations of Turkey 🦃 that led her under the scorn of Germany and US, her most solid allies till recently.

That "multicolor" thing is likely from whatever video recording system they use on their F-16 (looks like interlacing gone a bit nuts), or just good ol' chromatic aberration from the lenses. As high-tech as the F-16 is, I doubt they're putting in super achromatic rare-earth glass elements hand-ground by some German dude in the HUD camera.

Thank you for the video analysis Mover. The problems between Greece and Turkey and their disputes are well known. They usually do not fire on each other, as this would mean a clear declaration of war (there have been a couple of notable exceptions), although they try to get a lock on each other or outmaneuver each other sometimes in a dangerous manner that could lead to accidents due to human failure or stress on the jets themselves. It is a form of diplomacy. What you can see in this video edit is actually a fusion of not one but various HAF and THK dogfights that took place between Greek and Turkish fighter jets not over the Aegean but most probably over the Mediterranean (in the region east of Crete and west of Cyprus). Usually HAF Mirages and vipers intercept THK F-16s over the Aegean as the THK daily conducts overflights over the Greek Aegean islands. Specifically this compilation is from footage pertaining to dogfights that took place in a number of instances since 2017 over the Eastern Mediterranean when HAF jets were returning from Cyprus after they flew there in order to participate in the celebration of the Cypriot Independence day or in order to take part in bilateral military exercises with the Cypriot National Guard and/or the IAF. As Turkiye tries to prevent any flights of HAF planes flying to Cyprus due to their terittorial claims they would attempt to prevent the HAF jets from reaching Cyprus. That would be considered a THK success. They fail however on all counts as the HAF vipers always have managed thus far to reach Cyprus undetected. At some points during their flights to Cyprus HAF vipers have to fly at 500 ft or less to evade detection East of Crete or fly during specific times of day when Turkish radars are not switched on. This footage is most probably taken from some of these run-ins during the return flights of the HAF F-16s from Cyprus to Suda base.
Mover, thanks for cutting through the sensationalism that the media has. With the Turkish pilots not pulling the trigger, and weapons in SIM, it shows that the two sides are doing stuff to each other, but hardly expecting to get into a shooting war. It looks like the Turkish F-16 stays well shy of the F-16's famous 9G capabilities, would it be a possibility that the Turkish F-16 is also carrying external tanks and is limiting turn rate as not to over-G them? If so, then definitely both sides are not ready to throw down and really fight. As you have said, if they were serious, they'd have punched off the tanks. The F-16 has fought itself and won.
Hi there! This video is a little bit old, is from a Greek F16 and is a dogfight on Aegean ( greek airspace) and not at Cyprus airspace, the front fighter jet is the Turkish fighter jet, the Greek fighter jets went to Cyprus airspace more than 4 times and the Turkish Air Force never sow up because when they see the Greek f16 was already to late. The biggest point is greek and Turkish people we don’t have any problems.
As for the SIM mode, I am pretty sure both sides have agreed to be on SIM mode for these dogfights. They usually get tense and you never know when a pilot loses his comfort and presses the trigger and then start a war out of nowhere. Everytime greek aircrafts intercept incoming jets they are in SIM mode. Almost every day for the past years dogfights take place over the angean. Unless our radars detect 20-40+ turkish jets coming at us at the same time, we will probably stay in SIM mode and just do the usual stuff. Its sad that our pilots have to go through this shit every day.
It is funny how people on Twitter seem to have more "expertise" on these topics than the actual experts. The guy claiming that "SIM" was "simulation" clearly thought that this was some sort of computer simulation.

@@venpirethevampire there is a years old similar video, Turkish F16 vs Greek Mirage2000 I think where the Turkish F16 gives something that sounds like such a warning during the dogfight. What could trigger such a warning?
@@jackdonith that was the Sidewinder's "lock on" sound. It means Mirage could launch a missile if the master arms switch was ARM instead of SIM. Or it could mean jamming. Both Turkish and Greek F-16s and Mirages have the best jamming pods in NATO.
No it would not. "Shooting" in SIM mode does not emit any kind of signal, so RWR would not detect anything to give a warning about. Generally pressing the trigger in SIM is only done to "record" a simulated firing on tape for debriefing/training purposes etc.

It's sad that we have to explain the name "Viper" to people who insist on calling it the "Falcon." Yes, the Air Force has gotten into the habit of naming fighters after birds of prey. What's funny is that the Army has a similar tradition. They name all their helicopters after Native American tribes. Even the UH-1. The official name is the "Iroquois." Know who calls it that? Absolutely nobody. Everyone, military or not has known the UH-1 as the "Huey." So if everyone gets to call an Iroquois a Huey, I think we can call a Falcon a Viper.

Why when English leaves Greek Cypriots can kill Turkish Cypriots just to clain the whole island for themselves to join Greece? Rules of Engagement. No side wants to be the one who starts the war. So they are following the engagement rules.

Yeah, I would suspect it's a protocol created by their ROE, where they need HQ clearance to come off of SIM mode.
no, it's a training aid that allows you to use the weapons sensors, display fully and press pickle to ensure all the valid sequences for a valid weapon release are followed. Everything is training, even if it's a live intercept, it's training, so SIM seems absolutley valid, although, it does give away the mental state of the pilot and he doesnt seem stressed or under threat.
as a turk with greek friends i 100% agree us turkish military has a rule that we can NEVER ever shoot greek aircraft unless they break this rule first
same thing goes for greece we all dogfight on sim mode because we don't want to shoot each other we just want the other person to get out of there with no war starting
greek people are nice ngl and politics kinda just separates us two people of two different countries and us dogfighting like this also trains both pilots of the countries aswell
@@thebgpikester ..

The F-16 has fought itself and won.
it sounds different because the Turkish military reprogrammed the f16 entirely.
Looking forward to disable SIM mode.

You 2 are more like eachother than not, and that just doesn't include the Kashmir region..figure out the Kashmir region peacefully, stop taking religion to the extreme where killing is "fine", stop the HORRIBLE TERRORISM mainly Pakistan like the extremist Jaish-e-Mohammad....it's 2020 and all it is is a piece of land....Basically GPS Coordinates...we shouldn't think we need to be tied down to 1 region for our faith. You can still practice your religion pretty much on any piece of land in this world except North Korea.
I'm not hating on either Pakistan nor India...in fact I loved both countries when visiting, just giving my personal opinion. I understand I am neither Indian or Pakistani so my opinion doesn't mean much. It'd be cool to see an Indian-Pakistani thread that wasn't like 2 children fighting over a ball.
@@TM-bn8pv First of all there is nothing like terrorism in Kashmir there is a freedom movement in Kashmir which is handled by kashmiri people. They are peace loving but India doesn't want their freedom that's why India deployed 1 million ARMED Forces on them and they can't live freely.
