The RUclips Channel UinD Foundation is an arm of Chavara Cultural Centre Delhi to promote peace and harmony and Social Integration in society through Inter-religious dialogue, and art and cultural interactions. Chavara Cultural Centre Delhi is an offshoot of Chavara Cultural Centre Kochi, a voluntary, non-sectarian and non-political institution, established in 1971 in memory of St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara, the great visionary and social reformer of 19 century who paved the way for a cultural transformation of Kerala through promoting universal education. Being one of the pioneers in Sanskrit education in Kerala he founded the first Sanskrit School in 1846, attached to the St. Joseph's Church Mannanam, where children irrespective of caste, creed and religion sat together on one bench which marked history in the social and cultural arena of Kerala.
St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara taught children to respect everyone and consider others as brothers and sisters. St. Chavara considered humanity as one family, all human beings as children of God. He always stood firm for the universal brotherhood. India is the land of diversity. The phrase Unity in Diversity is the soul of Indian Culture. The social, cultural, artistic, religious, linguistic, ethnic and culinary diversities of our nation are unique and unparalleled. The perennial spirit of Indian heritage is very clearly enshrined in the following words of Rigveda, "Let noble thoughts come to us from every side’’- (Aa no bhadra krutavo yantu vishwato) Rigveda,1-89-1. Swami Vivekananda proclaimed openness and respect for all religions to be the fruit of the genius of India. India is the land of religious pluralism. In this country of Hindus, Christians, Muslims, Sikhs, Jains, Buddhists, Jews, Zoroastrians, Baha'i the best way to foster harmony and peace is to celebrate all religious and cultural festivals including artistic excellence together with the members of other religions and thus create a new culture of mutual respect and acceptance.
Basics to the Catholic position on inter-religious dialogue are the teachings of the Vatican II in its document on the Church’s relationship with other religions “ Nostra Aetate” , Let Christians, prudently and lovingly, through dialogue and collaboration with the followers of other religions and in witness of Christian faith and life, acknowledge, preserve and promote the spiritual and moral goals found among these men, as well as the values in their society and culture” (NA.2) Peace and Harmony through artistic and cultural interactions. Mastering any art form is a prayer, sadana and a sanyasa. A true artist endures great agony to sacrifice the self and unite with the art. When art and the artist become one, it gives birth to a divine purity and all who witness this union is purified in the process. Seeing art being performed purifies the mind and flourishes the element of goodness within the individuals and the society.
Reviving Folk Art forms of all indigenous groups awakens a brand new culture in society - a culture of mutual respect and acceptance. When people of different faith come together for the celebration of a festival, it enhances their innate goodness and this enhancement of goodness will usher a new culture in the society; the culture of love, truth, peace, justice, equality and acceptance. If we have strong and genuine faith in our own religion we will not be afraid of another. If one hates a member of another religion and abominates the symbols and deities, he or she won't be a true follower of his or her religion.
We all have to play a pivotal role in building up our nation, where everyone enjoys freedom of faith and expression, through initiatives of social and religious harmony and ultimately promoting National Integration. Every Educational Institution is a Cultural Centre. If every institution could focus on awakening a new culture of harmony and peace in each student through the celebration of art, we would create a world full of love, truth, justice and equality.
