¡Hola Nerida! ¡Muchas gracias por las amables palabras! ¡Me alegra que te haya gustado! Quería preguntarte si la traducción era buena. Es difícil saber si la traducción sale correctamente. ¡¡gracias de nuevo!! ❤️🙏🎨
Marilyn Neal ... 🙏 thank you so much Marilyn for your kind comment and feedback 💙🎨 Yes that’s a great 👍🏻 idea for a demonstration and dark wax is definitely tricky at times but with some great ideas you can so much fun with dark wax! Chairs are a perfect example! Love that idea 💡 ❤️❤️
Very well done, so casual and real, it was like you were sitting in my house having a chat... You definitely answered some of my questions. You are a very talented lady. Between yourself and Kacha you bring us heaps of inspiration. I'm in Australia, so thank you from the "land down under"
Jose Cloete ... thank you so much José 🙏❤️ I really appreciate your thoughtful comment and support 🤗 I absolutely love Australia 🇦🇺!!! I adore the series “ Offspring” I think I have watch the entire series at least 3 times!!! “Men at work” will always be on my playlist ❤️
Ahhh I love this idea.. I feel all the time I want to ask your advice pertaining to chalk painting so now maybe I will get all you’re advice. I recently just ordered the salt medium or whatever it’s called you add it to the paint to get that real texture look you just did it recently, I can’t wait to use it. Thank you for all you’re knowledge you share with us. I just love watching u create 😘
Kim Bryan ... 🙏 thank you so much Kim 🤗 for your thoughtful comment and support 💙 You will love the Saltwash texture medium!! ❤️ You will make some amazing projects! I really appreciate your feedback and thank you so much again 😉🎨💙
Great job! This was very helpful. One of my many stumbling blocks is having too many ideas for a piece and getting stuck in the mud trying to decide how to proceed. Also, is there a point when you determine the piece is more valuable unpainted? Thanks for the time you invest putting these videos together. 😁
Cynthia Dietz ... that is a fantastic question Cynthia!!! 🙌🙌 I as well feel the same as you and I sometimes feel undecided where I want to go forward with how I want to paint my pieces or is there anything worth saving on the piece to keep in a natural state ( wood ) ?? I am different going to include these question in my next episode #3 I have actually had a few people asking very similar questions!! I really appreciate your feedback and input as this really helps the “Chalk Paint 101” series 🤗❤️❤️
Linda Johnson ... Thank you so much 🙏 Linda for your kind comment and support 🤗💙 I plan to make the series more interesting and resourceful as well as fun ☺️❤️
I restore and paint furniture also and use to sell in a booth at antique shop. Now that I no longer do that, I could use suggestions on how to sell pieces..thank you
Manuela !!
Thank you Christina, there are plenty videos out there reg AS CH-P, but this was really missing.... We all have our pain points with painting... and I find sharing your experience as almost like gaining my own. Just by listening :) Found your channel just recently...... and I feel so grateful. So much out there to watch, learn.. and experience... Go Christina go! Regards from Slovakia
Muchas gracias Cristina!!!! Eres muy amable y muy profesional!!!! Me ha ayudado mucho este video, a mi y estoy segura a mucha gente. Que Dios te bendiga porque te lo mereces, que tengas mucha salud para estar con nosotros. Un abrazo
Many, many thanks Christina! As always, I learned a BUNCH. Know that you are much appreciated for taking your time to help all of us out. Now I'm looking forward to hump days too. If you would add this question to the list some time soon... tell us your approach to pricing your pieces? Thanks again Christina, Ken.
Ken Motley ... thank you so much Ken 🙏💙 I really appreciate your thoughtful comment and feedback 🤗🎨 That’s actually a fantastic question!! I will definitely talk about that in the next CP 101 🙌 There is a fantastic video I watch from a create creator and inspiration of mine @prettydistressed By: Christina Muscari She had a great video breaking down how to price her prices and it super detailed and very resourceful 😉❤️ Let me know if the link I attached worked okay 👌 I attached the video in another reply below
Thank you so much 🙏 for your thoughtful comment ♥️♥️ I remember watching her on bewitched 😀 That is such a kind message! She is a fantastic American actress! Thank you again for your kind words 🤗
Hi Christina 😊 Thank You for doing this...excellent idea❣️I’m sure many will appreciate as I do. I did not read all comments so please forgive if repetitious....the one thing I would stress especially with beginners is the use of shellac when painting whites....especially if they sand before using paint....I know when I started painting those tannins were a mystery to me...of course can happen if not cleaned well too....so using shellac with light colors and especially a white may be a useful tip! Look forward to the series❣️ Thank you for sharing 😊k
Oi Sinara !!!!
Have you ever thought about doing a distressed flag effect with chalk paint on a piece? That is what I want to do to my modern TV stand. *****Love all your info and techniques!
togwm ... that is a fantastic idea! 🎨💙 I have wanted to make the Union Jack 🇬🇧 flag across a piece of furniture and your thought to do a flag across a TV stand cabinet is great plan 👍🏻🎨 Thank you so much for your kind comment 🙏🤗

Cha Smit ... thank you so much 🙏 for your thoughtful comment and support 💙💙 I really appreciate your kind words and I hope to make the series more interesting 🧐 and resourceful as I receive so many fantastic questions about chalk painting and all the details in between 😉
@@TheReclaimedHeirloom thank you for the excellent Q&A. I recently asked a question about Saltwash and not being able to find it in South Africa. The other option was to use Sawdust as an alternative. However to my delight, I found a recipe to make your own Saltwash with Plaster of Paris and Kosher Salt. I will experiment and let you know how it turns out.
Cha Smit ... perfect 👌 Also I remember that question! My apologies if I haven’t replied yet ☺️ I just crazy busy 🤪 but I also saw something that might be interesting is using drywall compound in the dry formula. I totally agree with the plaster of Paris just remember not to add water as that will get very hard fast! Another ingredient is baby powder just a little! But definitely give it a try with a little experiment 😉💙💙
So I came here looking for your take on brushes. And I understand brushes are a very personal choice. I'm still confused, hesitant, and frustrated. I'm a tool snob, and I love falling in love with a tool that performs really well. I'm new to chalk paint, and my projects will be small and include decoupage. I wish I could enter an art store and know exactly what I want. The selection is overwhelming. I don't want to begin with cheap brushes. Been there, done that. I want to be impressed first swipe. I want my glue to lay quick, easy and smooth. The same with my chalk paint. I want my detail brushes to work like magic. I'm trying to avoid wasting time and money, but it seems the only way to achieve brush nirvana, one has to buy, use, and experiment until one finds the tool that works for them.
Hi! Just love the idea of chalk paint 101! Thank you for sharing your passion and your amazing tricks with us! I was wondering if you ever ship furniture and if so, how? I live in a very remote area in Quebec on the Gaspe coast, you can barely go more east than here... and the market around me is not great, I live in a 2000 people town. Just to give you an idea, The nearest Walmart is not even in the same province and is 1h45 minutes from here...
Hi!!! I live far away from the city here in BC but not as far as you it sounds like. Still for me it's a ferry ride into Vancouver. I do feel for you as I was born in Ormstown QE! I have not shipped furniture yet, I am actually looking into this as I am getting more requests for my pieces to be purchased out of province. Currently, I bring my furniture for sale to my local Annie Sloan Stockist or I sell commissioned pieces. I rent a truck every few months and bring my pieces into the city. 🙏🎨❤️
Hi Christine, regards from Athens Greece. I love your work. I would like some advice. I'm restoring an old dining table that i will paint with chalk paint and i want to use clear and dark wax to give it a shabby look. However, now that I listened you about the differences i prefer lacquer for the top of the table, but then i won't be able to give that shabby look. What would you recommend ?
Kiki Mpeka ... that is a fantastic question!! So no worries 😉 You can still use the lacquer top coat on the table top after you have finished you chalk paint 🎨 let dry! You can still apply decorative waxes to achieve your shabby design the key is to use the wax after you lacquer 😉 Hope this helps and if you have any other questions please feel free to contact me anytime ❤️🤗🎨
@@TheReclaimedHeirloom hi Christina. I wasn't able to find a good lacquer here in Greece so I'm asking if it will be ok if I apply two coats of clear wax on the top, then dark wax and maybe another coat of clear ?
Hi Christina! I loved your dinning table restoration in graphite and french linen! I wanted to do the same but after sanding i have discovered lots of knots in the wood... can i get rid of these somehow? Thanks!!!
Rebeca Hervis ... Hi Rebeca👋🏻 There is a slight difference in chemistry between the varnish and shellac. I am not an expert lol 😂 but I can say that varnish is more flexible and was made because wood wood swell with humidity etc so it protect better with its flexibility. But that meant being apply straight to wood to protect, when used as a sealer on top of paint it wood sometimes over time cause the paint to crack. Shellac is much harder and used to seal wood surfaces but it also prevents the wood and oils used on wood from bleeding through a new coat of paint. So I use the shellac before I paint an old wood piece of furniture because sometimes when you clean them well if not enough to prevent eruptions causing bleed through onto your new paint application. I would use varnish to seal projects like plastic because it’s more flexible or lacquer because it’s even harder and is moisture resistant. Varnish is a moisture barrier but lacquer is stronger. I was always very confused and again I am not an expert by any means lol 😂 But I hope this reply helps and if you have any other questions please feel free to contact me anytime 🤗❤️🎨
Hi Christina, I love watching your videos, I have a question, what is the best way to get a smooth clean finish when you use chalk paint, cant figure out if its the brush im using or its what material I am putting on....thank🎨💕
Donna Iseli ... that’s a fantastic question 👌🎨❤️ Thank you 🙏 so much Donna for your kind comment and feedback 🤗 So it could be one or the other but the best way I have done a smooth clean finish ... actually two ways! One ☝️ using a synthetic brush that has a good angle 45 degrees and you are going to brush on a 45 degree angle too! If you are using any primer before you apply the paint it should be sanded with a 220 or something similar to smooth the level of the finish first. Any paint layers let’s say you do two or three thin coats , you will want to lightly sand each layer using 220 grit or finer ( 220 is the norm) I even recommend the last coat to add water to help level the paint and wipe out brush stokes and that should do it 🙌 Second choice but not always an option for some is use a spray gun! People love the ultra smooth finish with chalk paint and if you had a few things you plan to paint it’s an excellent investment and you don’t need to buy an expensive spray gun for furniture. I really love this question! I am definitely going to add this as many have similar issues and would love to chat more on that! Also if you have time take a look at @kacha She recently did a amazing finish on a dresser in white with a fantastic smooth finish! Here is the link ...ruclips.net/video/XmIYp-A-XOI/видео.html I hope this reply helps and if you have any other questions please feel free to contact me anytime 😉🎨❤️
I enjoyed the 1st Q & A. I love your work! I have a plain black dresser and chest of drawers. I want to update them with grey chalk paint? I also have 2 dark brown bedroom side tables! Can I paint them all the same. Will the 2 different colors come out the same after painting? Sorry so long. Hope you can help! Thank you!
Catherine Rice ... thank you so much Catherine 🙏💙 I really appreciate your kind words and questions!! The answer is “yes” both the end tables and dresser will come out the same! Because I am not sure what the material is for either most likely a wood and maybe a MDF either way , I recommend to primer the base with any primer you can purchase or already have with with a cheap small roller maybe even 2 quick coats let dry overnight and now you have a greasy canvas to use the grey! This way you will less chalk paint ( more expensive) than primer and you won’t have any issues with your undertones so you can create a matching set! Hope this helps and if you have any other questions please feel free to contact me anytime 😉🎨❤️
Hi there, thank you for the wonderful video. It's answered many questions I had. I'm curious though, you said clear wax adds so much more and essentially brings definition to the color. Laquer adds long term durability. Could I not clear wax then laquer? Is that doing it wrong? 🤷♀️ I'm so anxious to get started on this large cabinet/hutch/ugly duckling in my dining room (thanks to you ❤)
Hi Kim! You can just use the clear wax for the cabinet as it will not be a high traffic use item. Something like a kitching/dinning room table I would use a laquer first then clear wax if you wanted the definition. 🙏🎨❤️
Hello Cristina ! Thanks so much for these precisions. I would you to ask a important question for me : can I make knife painting with chalk paint ? ... for more texture for a project on a metal fifteen desk style "Olivetti". I d make 1 "effet rouille" with lot of texture. Sorry for my english 🙈. I hope you have understand me 🤔🤣. Thank you.
Grouick Etgrouick ... that’s a fantastic question and absolutely “yes” you can! I recommend after a base coat , let that dry first then you can add your 2nd coat with a palate paint knife to paint with, just let your paint sit out and get a little dry to thicken the paint 🎨. If it gets to dry then add a little touch of water so you will have to play with the moisture balance. If you let me know the language you speak I can translate a better reply for you in your language 🤗❤️❤️ Thank you so much for your kind comment and support 🙏❤️
I feel I'm the reason for this episode after sending you 2 questions on Instagram and you read them, and felt hmmm.. These answers need a video not typing an answer 😂 Thank you so much dear🌹
Ranim EL Gendi ... My sincere apologies if I didn’t get back to you 🙏❤️ I try so hard to answer questions and your are important 🤗 I am so sorry if I didn’t reply, it rare but getting tricky these days 💕 I do appreciate your thoughtful comment and support thank you so much for watching and hope I have some answers 🤗🎨 And definitely your questions need a video lol 😂 and this is where chalk paint 101 can help me and anyone looking for ideas and answers for questions 😉❤️❤️
@@TheReclaimedHeirloom No need for any apologies ❤️ your 101 was the perfect practical answer, really I love your work, appreciate your help and support, again thank you so much 🌹🌹🌹
Hello Christina I’m new to chaulk painting and found your site and am so excited to try this and to be able to ask you questions. I have a gorgeous piece of furniture that I’d like to chalk paint the wood part but it has a marble top. Can that be painted as well?
Nora Buffington ... fantastic question Nora! Yes if you want to chalk paint the marble top to match your chalk paint base of your piece you can absolutely paint marble! If you want a smooth finish on the top, I recommend using a primer first and add maybe one or two thin coats with a roller ( small roller with do!) then give the primer a quick sand with a fine grit sandpaper like 220 grit. If you want your chalk paint to have little of no brush marks apply the chalk paint and use your paint brush on a 45 degree angle and then give a quick light sand again and you will a beautiful smooth surface! If your not worried about texture on on the table top then you can apply the paint directly to the marble. Thank you so much for watching and if you have any questions please feel free to contact me anytime 😉❤️🎨
I have three white plastic plates I want to paint with chalk paint. Can I paint on plastic and if so can I paint acrylic on top. Such as seafoam, silver and gold on top of chalk
Becky Wells ... I am going to say 🧐 that I believe it’s all about what you feel ! I have had rooms that compliment with same colour furniture but on the other hand it does look Cozy and inviting with some contrast in the furnishings 😉🎨 In the end it’s really about what makes your space make you feel! I think both styles are beautiful! Some people need the simplicity of complimentary matching furniture it feels claiming and soothing. Some people feel more happy with colours around them and it brings light and inspiration but again both are beautiful decorative ideas 💡 Just as an opinion, if your walls colours are simple having colour with in your furniture that is different can look fantastic! If you have lots of different colours throughout and textures on your walls then same colour furniture looks gorgeous. There is no right or wrong. Maybe you have a matching set of furniture and your in question to weather to paint different colours or keep it a matching set?
Hi Grace! I would say all you need is a small sample Chalk Paint (For example Annie Sloan has a small size Chalk Paint I believe is 4 oz). If you have a finish on the door I recommend to use a primer first. 🙏🎨❤️
Hi Suni!! After you paint your chalk paint project you can protect it either buy using chalk paint wax or you can use a top coat like polyurethane. I hope this helps! ❤️🎨🙏
Hi, need some advice here folks. I painted a kitchen table using chalk paint. Then used Rust-Oleum chalked protective coat in the spray can(5 coats). Not happy at all with the finish. Need something tougher, a lot tougher.. Which product can I use over the chalked protective coat? Something that can resist moisture and scratches. Can I use oil-base or must it be water -based? Can I use a spray on laquer? Thank you.
Hi Line Hache! Once you like the chalk color and have it painted for a high traffic use (i.e Like your kitchen table) I would go with the minwax polyurethane products they have one that is water resistant. Check out your local home improvement store for more advice options. 🙏🎨❤️
Donna Iseli ... fantastic question Donna 😉 To avoid drips when I use the paint on furniture especially when you are trying to achieve a faded look with your paint is actually two ways, one ☝️ have a moist damp clean cloth (paper towel sheet works too!) once you have added you extra water 💦 via spray let it go and as is has slowed down or even hit the floor below Take the damp paper towel and just lightly dab , if you have applied a lot of water just tap your hand over the paper towel and wait a few seconds and left off. You may see lightly the area looks darker because it’s absorbed a far amount of the water but once everything is dry it should be fine! You can also go back with a moist paper towel and a little of your base colour a lightly dab the line or lines with the base colour and moist towel. I have even used a small moist art brush and feathered the area to remove the lines. Also but sometimes not an option depending on the piece size your are working on , you can lay the piece on its back or side as you are working! Many artists do that with canvas but again if it’s a huge piece of furniture it’s not that easy lol 😂 Hope this helps and again if you have any other questions please feel free to contact anytime 🤗🎨
Janice Rehak ... thanks for watching Janice and glad the info was a bit helpful. Different demographics through RUclips play different ads , I myself don’t control the ads. If there are ads being played that your not comfortable with you would have to contact RUclips with in your account and discuss with whom does the ad marketing? The creators (eg: myself ) of the videos are separate from ad marketing. Hope that helps 🤗❤️

I as well feel the same as you and I sometimes feel undecided where I want to go forward with how I want to paint my pieces or is there anything worth saving on the piece to keep in a natural state ( wood ) ??
I am different going to include these question in my next episode #3
I have actually had a few people asking very similar questions!!
I really appreciate your feedback and input as this really helps the “Chalk Paint 101” series

Manuela !!

I really appreciate your kind words and I hope to make the series more interesting 🧐 and resourceful as I receive so many fantastic questions about chalk painting and all the details in between 😉
@@TheReclaimedHeirloom thank you for the excellent Q&A. I recently asked a question about Saltwash and not being able to find it in South Africa. The other option was to use Sawdust as an alternative. However to my delight, I found a recipe to make your own Saltwash with Plaster of Paris and Kosher Salt. I will experiment and let you know how it turns out.
Cha Smit ... perfect 👌
Also I remember that question! My apologies if I haven’t replied yet ☺️
I just crazy busy 🤪 but I also saw something that might be interesting is using drywall compound in the dry formula.

So no worries 😉
You can still use the lacquer top coat on the table top after you have finished you chalk paint 🎨 let dry! You can still apply decorative waxes to achieve your shabby design the key is to use the wax after you lacquer 😉
Hope this helps and if you have any other questions please feel free to contact me anytime ❤️🤗🎨
@@TheReclaimedHeirloom thank you so much 😄
@@TheReclaimedHeirloom hi Christina.
Thanks!!!
I will love this ! What is the difference between varnish and shellac?
Rebeca Hervis ... Hi Rebeca👋🏻
There is a slight difference in chemistry between the varnish and shellac.
I was always very confused and again I am not an expert by any means lol 😂
But I hope this reply helps and if you have any other questions please feel free to contact me anytime 🤗❤️🎨
@@TheReclaimedHeirloom thank u so much Christina! Have a nice weekend.
Hi Christina! Do you know if I can youse in clear wax oils? To make it smell good?
Hi! I am not sure if you can. 🙏🎨❤️
Hi Christina, I love watching your videos, I have a question, what is the best way to get a smooth clean finish when you use chalk paint, cant figure out if its the brush im using or its what material I am putting on....thank🎨💕
Donna Iseli ... that’s a fantastic question 👌🎨❤️
Thank you 🙏 so much Donna for your kind comment and feedback 🤗
So it could be one or the other but the best way I have done a smooth clean finish ... actually two ways!
One ☝️ using a synthetic brush that has a good angle 45 degrees and you are going to brush on a 45 degree angle too!
If you are using any primer before you apply the paint it should be sanded with a 220 or something similar to smooth the level of the finish first.
Any paint layers let’s say you do two or three thin coats , you will want to lightly sand each layer using 220 grit or finer ( 220 is the norm)
I even recommend the last coat to add water to help level the paint and wipe out brush stokes and that should do it 🙌
Second choice but not always an option for some is use a spray gun! People love the ultra smooth finish with chalk paint and if you had a few things you plan to paint it’s an excellent investment and you don’t need to buy an expensive spray gun for furniture.
I really love this question! I am definitely going to add this as many have similar issues and would love to chat more on that!
Also if you have time take a look at

Simple question: can chalk paint/type paint be sprayed?
Hello! I waxed a dresser that I now want to place in the kitchen. Can I lacquer the top for more traffic over the wax?
Thank you so much. I really wasn't expecting a reply from you until your next Q&A.
Thanks again Power Woman!🤗
how durable are these? a scratch test will be helpful to see
Hi there, thank you for the wonderful video. It's answered many questions I had. I'm curious though, you said clear wax adds so much more and essentially brings definition to the color. Laquer adds long term durability. Could I not clear wax then laquer? Is that doing it wrong? 🤷♀️ I'm so anxious to get started on this large cabinet/hutch/ugly duckling in my dining room (thanks to you ❤)
It is recommended to first use a lacquer or other topcoat then after completely dry put down the wax. 🙂
Hi Kim! You can just use the clear wax for the cabinet as it will not be a high traffic use item. Something like a kitching/dinning room table I would use a laquer first then clear wax if you wanted the definition. 🙏🎨❤️
What do you find works best to clean your brushes after using wax finish?
Hi Liz! I usually clean my brushes with a light dishwashing detergent like dawn.
If you let me know the language you speak I can translate a better reply for you in your language 🤗❤️❤️
Thank you so much for your kind comment and support 🙏❤️
@@TheReclaimedHeirloom oooh... thank you ! I m exiting to start and play with textures. 😁

When your doing multiple pieces of furniture in the same room should they be the same color?
Becky Wells ... I am going to say 🧐 that I believe it’s all about what you feel ! I have had rooms that compliment with same colour furniture but on the other hand it does look Cozy and inviting with some contrast in the furnishings 😉🎨
In the end it’s really about what makes your space make you feel! I think both styles are beautiful! Some people need the simplicity of complimentary matching furniture it feels claiming and soothing.
Some people feel more happy with colours around them and it brings light and inspiration but again both are beautiful decorative ideas 💡
Just as an opinion, if your walls colours are simple having colour with in your furniture that is different can look fantastic! If you have lots of different colours throughout and textures on your walls then same colour furniture looks gorgeous. There is no right or wrong.
Maybe you have a matching set of furniture and your in question to weather to paint different colours or keep it a matching set?
Cristina, tengo una duda, se que algunos barnices amarillean,. Pero a la laca también le puede pasar que amarilleeMuchas gracias???😘😘🌹🌹
What's the best wax brush...not paying $25 $30 per brush just starting out. You didn't mention this in the video...Lemme know
How much chalk paint would you use to paint an internal plain door on one side
Hi Grace! I would say all you need is a small sample Chalk Paint (For example Annie Sloan has a small size Chalk Paint I believe is 4 oz). If you have a finish on the door I recommend to use a primer first. 🙏🎨❤️
The Reclaimed Heirloom
Hi again what do you mean by a finish the door is painted in a gloss paint
How do we protect project surfaces using chalk paint
Hi Suni!! After you paint your chalk paint project you can protect it either buy using chalk paint wax or you can use a top coat like polyurethane. I hope this helps! ❤️🎨🙏
If the chalk paint is coming off when I’m putting on the wax, what am I doing wrong?
Hi Karen, its most likely the chalk paint is not fully dried yet. Thank you so much! I hope you enjoy today's new video! ❤️🎨🙏
Wouldn't lacquer make it very shiny? Or, can you get a matte lacquer? People chalk paint, so they get a matte finish.
I wondered why you didn’t mention polyurethane?
Hi! You can use a poly top coat or use wax. Depends on what you need for high traffic use or casual (wax) 🎨🙏❤️

Hi again, another question is how do I avoid drips, I try my best to wipe as I go, but always seem to find them after and they have dried🤔
Donna Iseli ... fantastic question Donna 😉
To avoid drips when I use the paint on furniture especially when you are trying to achieve a faded look with your paint is actually two ways, one ☝️ have a moist damp clean cloth (paper towel sheet works too!) once you have added you extra water 💦 via spray let it go and as is has slowed down or even hit the floor below
Take the damp paper towel and just lightly dab , if you have applied a lot of water just tap your hand over the paper towel and wait a few seconds and left off.
Many artists do that with canvas but again if it’s a huge piece of furniture it’s not that easy lol 😂
Hope this helps and again if you have any other questions please feel free to contact anytime 🤗🎨
