Why we moved to Alaska (SE 2 EP 9) 2017

- This week we were still stuck in town due to weather. So we decided to share some of the reasons why we moved to Alaska.
In Alaska you can homestead and live off grid without to interference with the government. You can carry guns without a permit and the hunting is plentiful. If fishing is more you style there is plenty of that with salmon and halibut.
In the near future we will talk about how we moved to Alaska and things you need to know before moving to Alaska. Hopefully you enjoyed the video

I am 64 & living in Denver, Colorado. I told a friend of mine that I want to move to Alaska & he replied, "Well hey, do it while you're young." I laughed & said, "OK, I will!"
new subscriber here, thanks for sharing your Alaskan dream..
I envy your lifestyle. I've always wanted to live in Alaska. Im tired of the heat. Lived in California, Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, Kansas, and Georgia. After going to Northern Afganistan I learned something, I love the cold weather and mountains. Wish I could get my wife on board. Thanks for sharing
Thank you for your service to our country steven gomez. Oh I forgot about Georgia, that place is hot and humid. Thanks for checking out the video and Happy Holidays.
Why did we move to Alaska?
Freedom
my kinda dude ;) keep on livin the good life!
Thanks Sen Chi
I like how you uplift ALASKA and give positive reasons to live their instead of the usual negative feedback from others Thank you
It might be because I'm a pretty positive guy. We do love it here though. Thanks for watching.
My Alaska Dream its my dream to live there, saved 25k. I’m single, no kids etc but have no job there.
@@ziggymorris8760 I recommend finding a job before you move here because it’s pretty expensive
@@ziggymorris8760 you should probably get you a woman to live with up there because it’s gonna get lonely all by yourself during the winter months
We moved to Alaska 8yrs ago from Texas. Drove the whole trip. We Love Alaska. Yes you have to have a greenhouse for sure.
That’s awesome.
Phoenix, Az. Here. Our summer this year hit 122. Hopefully by next summer I'll be in homer Alaska. I've been dreaming of Alaska since I was 9. I'm 36. Great posts. Great content. Thank you for your service.
Thanks for you comment Alexander Luthor. We really liked Homer too. We looked up and down the Kenai peninsula but chose the southeast.
Your going to love it.
I hate Phoenix and that heat but could never live in Alaska and deal with the cold dark winters.
Did you make it to Homer?
I heard Costco...nuff said already packed my bag
lol come on up.
I would love it too. I absolutely hate the heat!!!!
My son in law has worked for Costco in Anchorage for 15 years.
I just said to my wife: if only we were 20/30 yrs younger…… Now we’re stuck in the Netherlands. With a giant mortgage and NO permission to carry guns whatsoever. But I enjoy yours videos man. Y’all are living our dreams! Truly!
Thank you. We decided to do it while we still could.
My husband grew up in Alaska and we were there for a while 20 years ago. We live in Colorado now and we miss it. Alaska calls us. Be grateful you live there. It's a blessing!!
We left fort Carson in 2013. You could tell CO was headed in the wrong direction. Such a shame.
Nature and freedom, that does it for me, be outside and hunt and fish and gardening. That's live.
Just subbed. You are truly blessed to be in Alaska. I spent 4 of my Coast Guard years at Air Station Kodiak. Was fortunate enough to be able to fly into several AK locations, including Juneau. I have been able to travel widely and I must say that Alaska is the only place that I have never completely left. God bless and thanks for giving an old man a chance to once again... "visit Alaska"
Thank you for your service James Clark. My father in law retired from the Coast Guard in Juneau. He got bit by the Alaskan bug too and never left. lol
Thank you for again for watching and we are glad to have you around.
I'm moving off-grid this month but in a little different style. I converted an ex-USPS step van into my full-time retirement home. Always camping for free on public land traveling with the seasons. 10,000+ ft. elevation in the Rockie Mountains in the heat of the summer, Southern Arizona along the Colorado River in the winter. Every place in between in the spring and fall. No property tax, no state income tax, my version of freedom.
That sounds like a good plan to me.
I'm with ya on all points, brother! All excellent reasons and everyone of them was on our list too! The Army parked us in Delta and we really like it here. Just retired after 23 years, don't plan on leaving. Great video!
Nice, congratulations. 23 years, they got you with that last promotion😂
Thank you for your service.
Alaska seems to be a hotspot for retired veterans who love the outdoors.
Love watching the progress y'all have achieved on your homestead.
Thanks
I will be damned if you didn't just shoot the exact video and thoughts on why I love Alaska. This was a great video. I think it really captures the spirit of many people who move here , or are from here. Once again , keep em coming and best of luck.
Thanks Birdie315. I think so too. The downside is the state is messing with the PFD and thinking of imposing a state income tax. Maybe they should stop wasting the money the are already getting. Just my two cents.
I love the response I get when I tell people I'm planning on moving to Alaska. For me it's mainly the climate, but freedom is nice too...
It's all nice. Thanks for checking out the video.
Wow.... That word Freedom. Thanks for your comments, it really spoke to me
You are welcome Daniel
Omg exactly what I was looking for for information! Thank you so much,I'm from az!! I'm planning on moving to Alaska next year for a new start and experience the real freedom, and hopefully build my house!!, I have a woodstove for camping but hope I get more supplies to be better prepared, Thanks so much
Thank you James, for watching.
I wish you the best in your future move. I’m sure you will live it here.
Being stationed in CA, very few permits sounds like a dream to me. Favorite part - "just put it in your pocket and go... Freedom". I had just assumed that every state had a concealed carry permit.
Hell yes. I couldn’t live in CA to many fun grabbing nuts there. lol
I was in Alaska in 2012, since that time Alaska goes not out of my mind!!
I love it, it's gorgeous!
Thanks for watching Klondike Tom. It is a beautiful place.
Yes its my Dream! Greatings from Austria!
Subbed, moved up to Alaska 9 years ago. We love it, wouldn't have it any other way.
Thanks for the sub. We've been here four years now and love it.
I'd like to see the dogs all hooked up and some sledding footage this winter. That would be cool.
I hate the heat. I love Alaska! I think y’all have a perfect spot. I really enjoy the videos. Stay free!!!❤
Yeah buddy👍
Awesome video... what a place to be..!! You can do sprouts inside real easy to help with year round greens. Find the ones you like and your off. You two are following that dream......!!!!! Ya..!! Have a fantastic day..!!
Thanks Ron. Our goal is to start clearing a little patch in the front to build a small green house. I’m no gardener so we will see how things go.
You have a good one as well.
I also hate the heat!! Can't wait to get to Alaska! Looking like it might be next Spring before we can move, but the count down is on!! I'd really love to be on a island like you but i have zero boating experience. Great video buddy!👍🤘
hey..thanks somuch for posting this video up.as a child i always thought of living in Alaska.love the fact of no restrictions as a landowner.god bless and enjoy.I've just subscribed to your channel.hope to view more updates.thanks
Thank you George rosado for subscribing. Hopefully you'll enjoy the future updates.
Awesome video. I'm totally with you, I detest the heat. I want a colder climate. I live in eastern Massachusetts and I gets pretty cold. But thoughts of Alaska is always on my mind and I'm looking at all the outlets and positive things.
Thanks for stopping by Matt. Yeah, I'm sure it gets cold in Massachusetts. lol
Keep on thinking positive and thanks for the comment.
Lol. I love your videos!! This particular one came up while I was scrolling RUclips so I watched (again 😂) Now it's sent me on a binge of your channel for probably the majority of today ❤️😂❤️
Thanks Joanna, 😂 we appreciate it.
"Freedom you have..." absolutely important. Cool vid. Thanks.
Thanks for checking out the video Diego Fianza.
My wife and I have been watching you for months. Sure luv y'all. Stay safe. We're on our way. We bought a place in Delta Juction. A.K.
Good luck on your journey to Delta.
I love the colder weather too I live in AZ it's too dam hot I want to move to Alaska myself great video thanks for sharing.
Great reasons! Can't argue any of them for sure.Keep up with the awesome content. Cheers!
Thank you Andres M.
I'm so excited to move to Alaska in May. I cannot wait!!!
I bet. Safe travels.
I just wanted to say Hi and let you know that I enjoyed your video! I am going to Alaska for a job I accepted during the salmon season and am so hoping to just fall completely in love with the area and never want to come back to Arizona. I hate the heat also and am looking forward to a comfortable summer for once in my life!
If you like cooler weather than this is the place. You'll love it.
I know your cousin I believe. His name is Aaron and he works at AES energy plant in Shady Point, OK. I pick up dry ice from there. He’s the one who told me about your channel. Thank you for your service by the way. Pretty cool to have the chance to do what your doing!!
Lived in the Fairbanks area for 5 years. I still miss it. Cheers!
I’m headed to Fairbanks today. Thanks for watching.
FREEDOM Nuf Said!
Oh & i like the area around Delta Junction, but then again Seward is nice too....lol
I've never been to Seward. One day maybe. My old neighbor built a cabin at Delta.
Freedom sounds very good to me. It's the way life should be. I don't about the cold. I was born born in Texas and been here all my life. I get tired of the summer heat here but it sure is nice to have 60 degree weather in the winter.
Thanks for checking out the video Charlie White. I hear ya about the cold. I was born and raised in Oklahoma. I got tired of the heat and humidity.
I came across this video because my wife and I are taking a trip up to anchorage in a few days. This will be our first time in Alaska. Even though we've never been there, I've been trying to convince my wife that we should move there. We'll see how the trip goes...... funny thing is that we currently live in Phoenix area, and we've also lived in Oklahoma. If we were to live off grid, I would love to go back to southeastern Idaho. At least we'll have family somewhat nearby. Alaska living sounds adventurous and cool. I'm not a hunter but would sure love to learn.
Green Stone Grits we hope you enjoy your trip to Anchorage. I think you'll have a good time. That's the biggest city with lots to do. You can drive a little outside of the city and see some smaller towns that the majority of Alaska is like. If you have time take a trip down to homer along the Cook Inlet.
I would love to drive around, but I'm going there for a 3 day medical conference. We're getting there 3 days early so we can hang out with old friends from college that live in Eagle River. Maybe our friends would like to drive down with us to Homer?? thanks for the suggestion.
You are welcome. Enjoy your trip.
i am from minnesota. i currently live in egypt. i miss minnesota dearly .. the cold weather. the snow, fishing, hunting, hiking and blizzards. i would love to live in Alaska for the nature, wild life, the hunting as you said. the only thing that would make me worried and the only reason i never did move to Alaska ....... was the earth quakes ... i come from tornado country and i can handle that but the ground moving! scars me so much. even here in Egypt they have decided to be like america and have building codes and also you may be told how many stories and style and and and ... pretty sad . the powers that be, have deiced to tax and make a dime where ever they can. thanks for your effort and beautiful video .. you have a new sub
Thanks Vail tribe. I grew up in Oklahoma so I'm all about tornados. lol
We've lived here 4 years and I've only felt on earthquake. I know they happen but they are not very big. That's my experience so far. Good luck in Egypt. That must be a lot different than Minnesota.
Thanks again
Thank you for the view!!!
Thanks for watching Tatyana Smith
I'm here in Fresno, Ca and me and the wife are wanting to go up there so bad! We've got to be here another year and I'm hoping to save up enough in that time to get up there!
Zachary Calkins Goodluck to you and your wife. I'm another Fresnan leaving this hellhole.
It’s funny am Asian live in California and yet i always want to experience Alaska? Since i was child i always love to wonder arround the forest and learn about new things, i will have a serious talk with my hubby perhaps we can visit Alaska at least once in a lifetime and wish that i will not inlove once am visit lol.
You should at least once. My mom went on a cruise before we moved up her and she really enjoyed it.
Catching up on your back story. Freedom, yep. Not even too bad living in small town Southeast 😊👍
You got that right.
I lived in Juneau for 2 years and on Kodiak for 3 years as a kid. It would be awesome to move back up there! Great video!!!
That would be cool. I haven’t made it to Kodiak yet but would love to go.
@@AnAlaskaHomestead Kodiak was where I killed my first rabbit (on my 6th birthday). We lived on the USCG base.
Gorilla HD that’s awesome. My wife’s dad retired from USCG in Juneau.
Great video! Thanks for posting
Thank you guys for checking it out.
Your living in paradise bro i luv the bush
Yeah buddy, we love it here.
Making the move this fall. Coming from NC, I'm tired of the heat too.
I concur and I did! My wife is a born and raised as well!
Very nice. Thanks for watching Michael Kaylor.
I live in Puerto Rico (born & raised there) and I can't stand the heat either. Over here you can't tell the difference between Summer, Spring, Fall & Winter cause is so damn hot.
I love the cold. Of course it's very rare to find a cold place in PR, but I try to enjoy it as much as possible before going out & feel the heat.
And this is the #1 reason why I want to live in Alaska in the future.
Well thank for watching the video. I hope you can get to Alaska one day. I remember when I was a young kid in school, we had a new student from PR. It started snowing and they started to freak out because they had never seen snow before. We were in the 2nd grade I think. I would have been scared too. lol
Hope you get some cool days this summer.
Looks killler down there! I live up both in wasilla just north of Anchorage but would like to move closer to the water and off grid. Tired of dragging the boat 6 hours to go shrimping and fishing :) Keep up the vids!
907AKOFT we have some friends that live in Wasilla. We actually looked at a lot of properties on the Kenia but really enjoy the southeast. Thanks for checking out the video.
all great reasons to live there... I would like to visit in the summer... South Dakota has the freedom to open or cc as well...im a lot older than you are and i no longer enjoy shoveling snow... and since my hubby passed away 4 years ago I dont have the help... I would love to live off grid... In a free state... just not sure which one...lol... thank you for your videos...from South Dakota
Sorry to hear about your husband Deb. I think Idaho is a free spirited state. They get a lot of snow there as well.
One day soon I'll be there! Great vid and channel!!!!!!
Thanks LonePawWalk.
I'd like to see more of your daily routines maybe lifestyle. Maybe that sounds lame but I'm sure theres a few things that are essential to making your lifestyle what it is.
That's not a bad idea Ginny pebble
Well I woke up this morning digging out my car in -20 degree weather. Last night the Aurora was, it was pretty, saw the meteor shower too. Blockbuster is still open. We have coffee stands everywhere. I just finished starting a fire. I dunno, you have to live Alaskan to truly know Alaska.
Alaska907 Sounds amazing! I d love to live there myself then
Love the hole idea of freedom , but hate snow . Enjoy the snow my friend . I do enjoy your videos , so keep up the good work .
Thanks for the comment edmoe122. Like the heat, snow ain't for everyone.
Oh and i did subscribe 2 your channel .
Thanks!
I’ve just seen this for first time and I live in a supposed to be in a mild summer mild winter but it’s as hot and humid as hades. If I could I would leave however my son and extended familie in this city. There is no cold part of the year except for about 1 week a years. Enjoy your Alaskan life
We are loving it here. Even though this has been a warm winter, very little snowfall. The summers still stay in the 60-70 degree range. We may hit 80 a couple times a year but that’s as high as it gets.
Sounds like you could use a good size greenhouse or high tunnel.
High tunnel sounds pretty good. Thanks for stopping by. I'll have to check out your channel.
you are living my dream, hopefully we can get up their soon.
We hope so too. Thanks for watching.
Hi mate sharky here from Australia, jist found ir channel, alaska looks amazing mate, i watch so Many hunting videos from there, well done you look very happy, and im jealous of ur freedom, in oz we pay for every thing 3 times over, it kills us, cheers mate
Hey Sharky Shepo, glad you enjoyed the video. I can’t lie, I love living here. Out of all the states I’ve lived in Alaska is our favorite.
I’ve always wanted to visit Australia. It’s still on my bucket list, one day I hope.
Have a great day.
Cheers
I hate the heat too. I live in South Carolina and it is too damn hot. Great video!
You got that right Antony Otto. I’ve spent a lot of time in the Carolinas and Georgia. Too hot.
Good stuff! We currently live in Southeast Texas and are moving to North Idaho soon as we can’t stand the heat and humidity. We also lived in the Phoenix/Tempe, Mesa area.
Yeah too hot. I know there are a lot of RUclips guys from Idaho doing similar stuff. Must be a pretty good place. Good luck on the move.
My Alaska Dream thank you sir. Hopefully before summer ends.
That would be nice.
Love this
I have Always wanted to live in Alaska. hate the heat. and I hate summer. Enjoyed your video.
Thank you. It’s a good place to be for cooler weather.
@@AnAlaskaHomestead I am hoping one day to live there.
I've checked an in the fall of 2018 the average prices in alaska are about what I'm paying in southern idaho. I have more agriculture within 300 miles of me than in all of alaska. I'm still $2.20 for 18 eggs. $2 for store brand bread. $3.40 for the cheap brand of milk and up to $6 for the raw non pasteurized milk. And $200,000 to $300,000 for a 3 to 5 bed 1 to 2 bath house on a few acres. The land developers have driven property prices way up. And there is only 1 grocery store within 40 miles. They charge what they want.
I known there are a lot of people going off grid in Idaho. A lot of youtubers. I think foutch o matic, starry hilder, and PLFL I believe all live in Idaho. I think both places offer great incentives to do something like this.
Got a job offer in Kotzebue. I grew up in Mississippi. Went to college in Oklahoma, and now I live in Texas. I think I'm in for a big culture shock! 🤠
I guess it is time for a change. My brother went to OU. Now he lives in Texas.
I definitely will be posting videos of the sled dogs this winter.
Solid reasons!!!
Thanks
I have always wanted to live in Alaska. Due to having family around , I am thinking Maine, or North Michigan. Good video
Thanks for checking out the video For Sure. I've never been to either places. They both sound good.
We almost moved to Alaska years ago! A big part of me still wishes we had!! Beautiful Beautiful Beautiful! Your growing season sounds like my Idaho growing season! LOL i have to drive 1.5 hours to my Costco!! I'm Jelly!! LOL Just subbed :)
We debated on staying in the lower 48 but my wife really wanted to go home. So here we are and I couldn't be happier.
Thanks for checking out the videos. I'll head over to your channel.
Hey brother, we live in Oklahoma and your preachin to the choir. My wife and I prefer the cold and both have dreamed about living in Alaska... we're in our way! New to your channel, lookin forward your adventures!
I'm glad you found us Tristan Shane. What part of Ok are you from? I grew up in OKC and the surrounding towns.
You have got it made in the shade, my friend. I dream of being able to do the same thing some day.
Thanks E.R. Garner. We hope your dream comes true.
Freedom yep That's way I want to move back. Amen great video.
Thanks Mad Marc. I love it here.
Bravo! My reasons for planning to move too. Plus I am a "cold climate" person and the taxes in New York are outrageous. The parking tickets are killing me and if you want to own a gun, that is practically impossible !
I don’t blame you one bit. NY has a lot of countryside but everyone thinks of the city. The laws get made for the cities which leave the rural counties without a say.
Great video and content!! really enjoy your channel!!
Thank you. I’m glad you like it.
@@AnAlaskaHomestead I do - wow such a big channel and you have the time to reply!! thanks for the effort and work you are doing!!

Great place to visit but just a tad too cold for me and I do like the cooler months. I'm from Australia but live in the cooler part of the country. 🐧🐟🐬🐳
That's funny, my mom was visiting and said the same thing. Too cold. lol
I hope to visit Australia one day. Seems so intriguing.

Good. Great information

I like it! Taking a step back in time. lol
I don't like the heat either; much prefer winter over summer.
Good stuff man!
Thanks Drew Down684

I’m pretty sure I do too. lol
Thanks for watching👍
"We can LIVE out here"☺👍👍👍
nice video man. Alaska seems like a libertarian dream state.
That is very true.
Thanks for watching.
I'm leaving Hawaii soon, have job offers in Colorado and Alaska. Colorado is closer to my family in Texas, but the housing market and job market are so saturated now from all the potheads invading from California. Plus, I just feel drawn to Alaska for some reason.
Hey JediNinja. We actually moved to Alaska from Colorado. Don't get me wrong I love Colorado but it is becoming more like California as far politics are concerned. We left after they banned 30 round mags and if you wanted to loan a friend a rifle to go hunting you had to fill out a background check. There were a lot of other reasons for us to leave Colorado but Alaska also has its own problems.
You're picked out two great states and whichever one you choose you'll be happy with. Side note, my brother lives in Texas and you can drive there in a day from Colorado.
Loved your video production btw. We are youtubers too, and I can tell you but some effort into this video.
Thanks Green Stone Grits we try. lol
Would love to visit Alaska
It is a pretty cool place.
THIS MAN GETS IT, THE HEAT IS MISERABLE
Right?!
both thumbs up!!!!! Congratulations pal!!!!!!
Enjoy, we could even meet , since that´s a place I love a lot because of freedom, nature, and few people
Thanks for the video, take care of you, wife and nice pet you have also! ☻
Thank you.
My pleasure Thanks to you pal, and best for this seasons!
Please keep me post!
Will do
No State sales tax either! If you are a resident you recieve an oil revenue check anually as well.
That’s true Michael steffen. We will see if the implement a state tax in the future.
You want to conceal carry a gun?! Just put it in your pocket and go! Hilarious!
Ha, I get a little excited when talking about our 2nd amendment.
Glad you stopped by.
Same here in Arizona. Rather be in Alaska though.

«-Concealed Carry Only (not generally considered “Constitutional Carry.”)
It’s nice that there are more Constitutional Carry states every election cycle, but pathetic that our idiot ancestors let the governments take their (our) rights away in the first place.
Constitutional carry is one of the reasons I bought land in Alaska. Eff all politicians and citizens that oppose the freedoms laid out in the United States Constitution.
Good job !
Thank you
The very first time I came to USA I landed in Alaska. It wasn't really my choice, but that's how it happened.
The second state I visited, and lived in, was Washington. This was my choice though.
Now I am a citizen, and live with my wife in the awesomest state of Arizona. There's no better place in the world than Arizona.
Congrats on your journey Octavian Immers. I enjoyed Sedona AZ. Northern AZ is ok but Phoenix was too hot for me. 👍
Freedom! Man I so miss that!
Every day it seems like we lose more and more of our liberties.

I'm from Sweden, a socialistic country, so yeah.
The youth of America want a more socialist style government. I don’t think they understand that all the free stuff you get, you actually pay for.

The wife and I are living in Southern California, we're gonna take a road trip to Fairbanks in January. See how we handle a couple weeks of winter. She's from Pennsylvania and I'm from Tahoe so we know cold just not 50 below.
I hope you enjoy your trip Jimmy Garcia. I've been in Fairbanks in the winter and -50 is cold. Although I have snowboard in -30 and it wasn't that bad. I think they closed down the lifts at -30. You will get to enjoy the aurora there. Best place to see them.
My Alaska Dream that's what we are going to see. We are going to drive any recommendations? I have a 2012 4x4 Silverado with 160k miles. Should I worry about winterizing it or should it be fine? Hell I just won't turn it off if it gets too cold
Jimmy Garcia I would differently get it winterized. A block heater, oil pan heater and a battery blanket is pretty common in the interior. I would also keep a survival kit in your SUV too. Just in case you break down and have to wait any period of time for help.
One more side note, maybe bring some vitamin D. You're only going to get 3-4 hours of sunlight a day.
Even though it gets cold you'll have a blast.
dude sounds awesome gods country nature sounds cool
It is pretty cool.
Heck I can only garden 6 months a year in Iowa!
I hear ha
Love the video! Thanks for the info. What part of Alaska are you in?
Thanks; we live in southeast Alaska
Freedom. PREACH. I just pray a bunch of yuppies don't move there and destroy it like MT and CO.
Mrs. Garcia tell me about it. We moved up her from Colorado.
Lived and worked hard in rural Colorado for just over 30 years, built my own cabin with my own tools and band saw mill. All paid off, but now I just want to dump it all and move somewhere else since now I feel like I am living in some s-hole called California East or some danged communist crap like that. Kicking my self in the ass real hard for not moving to Alaska in 1986 instead.
No real decent places to live now in the lower 49 with all of the over population, government corruption and illegals runnin' amok.
Onkljobyfish If you could cut out Denver from Colorado I would have never left. I wrote HickenPooper back in 2012 or 13 when they were talking about the background checks and the 30 mag ban. That and at the time it was illegal to harvest rain water were the two big reasons. Your right it gets more and more like California everyday.
Onkljobyfish I hear ya
I would love to visit Alaska
You should some day
