Five things you need to know before moving to Alaska. There is way more than 5 things to list but we will start with 5 and keep adding to the list. Alaska is beautiful what else do I need to say. Alaska wildlife is everywhere. It doesn't matter if you life in Anchorage or Juneau, you will still see wildlife roaming through the streets.
How expensive is Alaska? Alaska cost of living is very expensive! The northern lights AKA aurora borealis are amazing to see, it doesn't matter how long you have lived here. You are not going to get much sunlight in the winter. Everyone dreads summer solstice and welcomes winter solstice. Last but not least is Hunting and fishing. Alaska hunting and fishing is Amazing. Alaska has so much to talk about I think we will do multiple videos on this.

Would love to talk with ya about moving there.
I'm thinking of buying some land up there. I'm from Tennessee. Any advice?
@@NOXCUS spend the money on a trip to visit the area you are interested in. Better to spend money on airfare and decide you don’t like it than move all your stuff and make that decision. 👍
@@AnAlaskaHomestead im gonna take a vacation there next summer to check things out. What can I expect during the summer, and is there a travel guide person for first time person
I live in interior Alaska....moved up from the lower 48 in 1993. Five things: 1) Relatively little traffic...no red lights in 500 miles from Fairbanks to Pruedoe Bay, no red lights the 350 miles from North Pole to Valdez, no red lights the 100 miles from Ester to Healy. 2) Excellent gardening...warm, long days in summer...tomatoes, zucchinis, strawberries, peas, etc. 3) Most roads in interior AK are unpaved, even highways such as the Elliot Highway, some of the Steese Highway, Dalton Highway, etc. 4) It is light in the winter, just shorter daylength. 5) They do not use road salt in interior AK so vehicles do not rust out...it is common to see pickup trucks from the 1980s-90s around town.

I loved the clips of the Bear cubs.
Oh yeah they were cute. That one was pretty brave. 👍
colorado home prices are crazy now. I bought in 17 and it has appreciated almost 80k in that short time. I also supplement D3 in during Colorado winters.
Just counting the days to visit Alaska, here in Arizona we have our own Northern Lights, (hand gun fire everynight) Phoenix Arizona
Ha I can see that.😂 thanks for watching.
We have that in anchorage all the time. Especially east anchorage. Gang bangers etc
matanuska high really? gang culture seaped into alaska as well? what a shame

Hi from Niagara falls Ontario canada. NEVER GIVE UP AND NEVER SURRENDER
Hello
Just watched you get the freezer into the house. Good to have friends like that. Enjoying all your videos, and your comments.
Thanks Dave
I remember riding through west virginia...and was captured...totally.
I can't wait to see alaska!
If you love WV Alaska will blow your mind.
Colorado natives here! We’ve been dreaming about moving Alaska for years, love your channel!
Thank you chrisfarleylover. We lived at Fort Carson / COS for 10 years and loved it there as well.
Alaska is a one of a kind place. Beautiful place indeed.
I think so too. Thanks for watching.
Just watching this makes me wanna move to Alaska
What I like is that you include top notch videos illustrating whatever you're talking about. That one showing the sun as it traverses the sky in the heart of winter, never getting up beyond a certain point was perfect. And all your wildlife captures are amazing! Great job.
Thank you Carissa Conti 👍
Awesome brother thank you for sharing 👊😷👍
I love Alaska. I hope i will visit this beautiful land in future .
Everything has it's pro's and con's... All good tips about AK... but nothing you said puts a
damper on my plans!! Yet to experience the Northern lights, but look forward to it for sure! Cheers B!

@@AnAlaskaHomestead What do people do for a living when they're off-grid? Do you still work a regular job?
@@500dollarjapanesetoaster8 I live off my army retirement. Others do whale watching tours. But a typical 9-5 job would be to hold down.
I live in one of the lowest cost of living cities in the US... Springfield, MO... Yet wages are low, gas is currently around 3.60 and costs about 300 to feed one person cheaply from a grocery store. Rent for a 1 bedroom in a bad area about 500, rent in a good area for 1 bedtoom 600+. I have a 400 sq foot place, rent is 470, electricity during the hot summers is about 120 per month and 100 during coldest months using electric heat.
Hey Zachary, that gas price seems high to me. We are at $3.60 right now. I think they maybe robbing you guys.
A small 1 bedroom apt runs around $1000 a month.
Thanks for giving us a price comparison.
Hope you have a great day.
Zachary, you probably have reasons for staying there, family, kids... but living is about living not waiting to live, someday, maybe... God doesn't promise a tomorrow. Living happy is worth it.
Zachary G if you don’t make 100k in Alaska you are poor. Cost here is very high.
Moving and Buying a House in Anchorage in 8 months. Can't wait to be there forever!

2 dollar per gallon of gas, thats cute. In sweden we pay about 7 dollars for a gallon lol
Jesper Danielsson wow, we now Europe. Countries have High prices👍
It’s over 3$ here in Alaska but we also produce oil. Lots of it.

Spent wonderful 4 months there! Haven't seen a moose and northern lights but still impressed! Looking forward to visiting it next year❤
That’s awesome. Enjoy your trip next year.
Alaska is second to none it has magnificent views, wonderful people and tons of wildlife. Was in Juneau last week had a blast fishing . Every time I go to Alaska it just gets better I strongly suggest visiting .
I couldn’t agree more with you. It’s an awesome experience.
You just don’t want to live in Alaska. Visit is o.k.
Willliam Westgate. I lived in Alaska for 10 years so I know what the true Alaska is really like. It can be very beautiful or very ugly.

Cool! Thanks for sharing. Stay safe!
Thanks, you too!
I live in Fairbanks, and can attest that winter is obnoxious. Still wouldn't want to be anywhere else. Thanks for sharing.
I feel the same about the southeast. Although look for me at sportsman’s warehouse in sept. I’ll be visiting my brother in law and looking for moose.
Great video. Almost ready graduate gunsmithing soon. Just got my 300 win mag for hunting up there. Can’t wait
I may be getting a seasonal job offer that involves traveling through Alaska here any day! I'm very excited. Also, I'm a Colorado native!
so glad i found this channel i spent time north of Fairbanks with my great uncle as a child i am seriously considering moving there again things in the lower 48 are getting a bit too out of hand for me
I believe it.
I wish I was there now. It's so beautiful and peaceful. Best wishes.
Thank you Osvaldo Zapata. It is really a beautiful place.
Another great video. Awesome footage. Like the idea of more videos like this. Life is good! Take care .
Thanks guys. Hope you have a great week.
You need to open a little holiday cottage up there and do fishing and hunting trips . great video again ty . I have seen the northern lights when I lived in Scotland but it was now where near as strong colours as your clips such a cool sight to see none the less....
Yeah they are amazing. The brighter the better though.
Beautiful!
I'd still roll that way if I could brother!! Wonderful video Brian!! Dan
Thanks Dan, always a pleasure to hear from you.
Anchorage still gives you the city experience.
Probably the only knock on Anchorage is the crime rate. I suppose you can live in one of the outlying towns.
My real question is what kind of jobs are available and pay rates.
All sounds great for me! Nice video , both of you have a great week. Take care.
Thanks Mark, you have a great week as well.
Wow it's so pretty! I visited Alaska but I can only imagine living there full time. I'm loving all your videos.
It really never gets old, at least for me.
Even here in the southeast it rains a lot but I love seeing the mist rising up off the mountains. The view is always changing.

Nice vid. Alaska is truly a hidden jem. Only the lucky ones get to see it physically. I love it there.
It’s not hidden. Lol. It’s actually crowded here in the last 5-7 years. Try salmon fishing it’s shoulder to shoulder.

amazing video. looking into college in alaska and this really makes me want to go to college in alaska
That would be fun. If you like the out doors and don’t mind the cold you’ll love it here.
well lucky for me i love both!!!!!
The scenery is so awesome there. Fishing and hunting I'm all for it! Winter and short sun nope have to draw the line on that one buddy. Really love your place in paradise over there but can't take the cold! Sure figured it would of been a lot cheaper to live there then over here. Gas here just came down to $2.68 last week. Was up around $2.80. I bet the northern lights is something to see. So mind blowing! Thanks for the tips and tour. Hope you folks have a great day!
Remote property is a lot cheaper but things like fuel and products all have to be barges up here. That’s why some things are more expensive. I’m just the opposite, I can’t take the heat. It sucks the life out of me. lol
The northern lights are amazing. It only happens in the winter though. 🤨 so you have to bundle up if your going out side to watch or film.
Thanks for watching CB, have a great week.
I like the long dark winter nights and the cold -- the midnight sun in the summer can be annoying, though, but I can deal with it as long as the weather doesn't get hot! BTW, where do you live that you only pay $2.68 per gallon of gas???
You made a awesome video for 2019 keep up the good hard work.
Thanks T Brown Records
You did nice job . Thank you for the info🌹

I'm moving to ak in about 5-6 months very excited but also nervous I was born and raised in California for 15 years and now I've been in Oregon for about the same amount of time so it'll be an adventure for us 😁 hope it's a good one 🤞
That’s awesome. We wish you the best when relocating. Let the next adventure begin👍
Y’all gettin it done!
Slowly but surely.
In Australia we are paying an average of $1.50 per litre, so that's nearly $5.70 per gallon !!
Me and my girlfriend's dream is to move to Alaska love the video awesome job
Thank you. Hopefully you guys can make it up here some day.
Good luck👍
Hello, I you did not move to Alaska. I lived in Ketchikan, Alaska and other locations in the state. The first year or two will be beautiful wilderness, interesting, and new but soon soon you start seeing the ugly side of Alaska. Such as: Isolation, boring during the winter months, male/female populations ratios, alcoholism, bars, high cost of living, and its not a fairly land adventure. If you have a beautiful wife/girlfriend you better keep a eye on her or some s.o.b will try to steal her away from you. I wish I would have stayed only a year in Alaska. Had a good paying job but now I know that money is not the most important thing in the world. Go for a summer but do not live in Alaska.
Loved the video.
Thanks
Seriously thinking about buying a seasonal home in Kethikan to escape the summer heat of Los Angeles from July-Sept, sure looks good up there!
50-70 is our summer temps. It might be a good fit for you.
Thanks
Hey B, you still working at the mine during the week? We are still planning on moving there, just need to get everything paid off. Taking the 5 year plan down here in the OK Town, raising up a farm, and preparing for the switch.
We watch you're videos every week. Keeps us focused on the goal. Loved it man, great video!
P.S., I've been practicing the floss dance lol.
lol you’re going to have to work hard to get this dope skills like me. Floss master. lol
No I don’t work at the mine anymore. I quite last August. Enjoying retirement.
Sounds like a good plan buddy.
That's what I thought you had said. Congrats on retirement bro-diddly, and keep your eye out for a sweet place for me;)
I will for sure. At year four remind me and we’ll find you a sweet place.
Nicely done buddy. If things go south here on the mountain, AK will be my next stop. Been 30 years since I been there.
Cheers :-)
Hey Bossman, That sounds like a great idea. 30 years is too long. Your due a fishing trip. lol👍
No Joke.
when things go south you wont be able to get here...jus sayin.
I may be moving to AK for work in Unalaska. I have heard nothing but good about most everything there. Everyone's biggest thumbs down was the fact that this location specifically is a 2 1/2hr plane ride from Anchorage and is about $600 one way. But I lived in Hawaii for 4yrs, so the island feel I love. Can't wait to experience this beautiful place!
That sounds pretty cool to me. I look at the PDF as a free airplane ticket every year. Plus if you know when you are going to fly you can buy tickets far in advance and it maybe a little cheaper.
Good luck on you adventure
@@AnAlaskaHomestead Thank you kind sir! Yes, I have been talking with someone so they have been filling me in on all the stuff. And apparently Alaskan Air may be taking back over that flight instead of Ravn? Have you heard anything about that?
No I haven’t heard anything about it. We got an Alaska Airline credit card, it helps with miles and you also get a companion ticket every year. We think it’s worth it. Check into it. It’s cost $70 a year. Worth it if you need a second ticket.
@@AnAlaskaHomestead Awesome, thanks my dude, appreciate it!

This morning I paid $4.219 for 89 octane here in southern California.
Don't forget about the NO-SEE-UMS!!!!!
Oh the dreaded no see ums 🤬
I would love to live in a place like this...
It’s a. Ice place. Thanks for watching.
We just got back from a visit to Fairbanks, Denali, UAF, etc. We stayed at a lodge about 30 miles outside of town. We are now considering moving to Alaska after my 2nd retirement, not that I am going to stop working! I'm overwhelmed with all the considerations but we have about 2 years to plan it. I think its kind of insane, but then again, I never want to regret not doing it either. It's going to be one insanely expensive move. I live in Florida!
Ha you will literally be going from as far southeast to as far northwest as one can in America. That’s awesome. Is your kid going to be going to UAF?
It’s a Fairbanks is very pretty in the fall when all the leaves are changing colors. I don’t know if you hunt but it is also prime moose country. That’s where my brother in law lives. We go up almost every September for moose season. We didn’t go this year unfortunately.
We wish you the best in the planning stage. There is a lot to consider when making the big leap of faith to move up here.
@@AnAlaskaHomestead Our daughter is of college-age but hasn't yet figured out what she wants to do. I didn't know at that age either, so no pressure. She can hang out with us as long as she wants. I have both hunted and fished. It's been a few years, but I am not opposed to putting meat in the freezer. We have nothing like moose in Florida. The local deer run small too. A lot of people go out of state to hunt deer. I think both the hunting and fishing is going to blow my mind compared to what I am use to in Florida.
That’s cool, I still haven’t figured out what I want to do yet😂 I guess what I’m doing now.
Yeah it will be a big difference. Although our deer are small. Sitka black tail.
Been missing your videos brother. We just got internet on the new homestead. Hope to get some videos out soon.

Regular gas here in Miami, Fl is $2.29 at the moment. Cost of living is fair and weather is great from beach lovers but being originally from NY, i always loved to go to cat skill mountains upstate to camp out. My biggest dream is to move to Alaska. Don't know but deep inside i hear Alaska calling me.
My in-laws grew up in Miami moved to Alaska in the 60s and never left. Alaska definitely has an inner calling to the woodsman, outdoorsman and adventurer. My wife grew up here and after I retired from the army we moved here. Four years latter I can’t think of anyplace I would rather be.
Thanks for watching. 👍
Cant wate too see them lights for the first time
Yeah they are cool
Great video and info...I have had an urge to go there for years !!now divorced after 20 years and broke its gonna be hard..I’m an X-ray tech which should pay well but doesn’t..wish me luck...oh and how easy is it to get your furniture there
Thanks Aaron. Sorry about the situation you’re in now but if there is a will there’s away. Medical workers are always in demand. On the furniture, it really depends on where you live. You can get anything from a larger city like Fairbanks, Anchorage and Juneau.
Last summer I saw Alaska for the first time it was by far the best family trip I have taken in my life. This summer I’m going for a atv tour guide job and spending two and a half months up there and cant wait. I feel absolutely blessed to have this opportunity at 18.
Hey Zach, be careful, you may never leave. lol
Congrats on the job. Hopefully you have a great experience. 👍
My Alaska Dream haha thanks it will definitely be an experience considering I’ve lived in Florida my whole life.
Oh yeah there’s a little bit of a difference there. lol
Goodness Graces I know a few Russians. Maybe they are spies too😳
To old to move there now so will just watch your videos
I wish you could old time engineer, maybe just a visit on day. 👍
When you talk about prices so much of it depends on where in Alaska you live.
Where I live on the Kenai Peninsula things aren't quite as expensive as other parts of the state but, we are on the road system.
I have friends who live in remote villages and they pay between $7 and $9 a gallon for fuel and upwards of almost $10 a gallon for milk.
kasilofchrisn that’s very true. Prices in Juneau are a lot cheaper than in Haines. The more remote you get the more you pay.
Yes, do a series on this. I'm selling the farm in Ky,this summer. I should be headed that way next spring. You are in the Juno area, right ?
Hey Terry, thanks for watching. I will do some more of these. I know some people are interested in moving here, so we will show the good and the bad side to Alaska. Juneau is he closest city near us.
What is your normal coldest ,in that area? How many days stright, average ? Length of day light, on your short daylight day?
The coldest I’ve seen in our area was -5 but that was at a mine I worked at and we were about 1000 ft in elevation. At sea lev the coldest temp was 10 degrees. Typically the lows are in the 30s and the highs are in the 40s during the winter months.
At the darkest day here we get 6 hours of sunlight and in the summer our longest day is 18 hours.
thank you for sharing would like to ask you more i am interested me and my wife are disabled that place is very beautiful
Thank you Bobby. Feel free to ask your questions.
Prices there in Alaska are almost exactly the same as the prices here in Oregon from all the videos I'm watching. Housing is insane and so is food and gas here.
I just love this video, you and your wife are awesome together ❤️
Is there any property for sale near you guys?
Thank you😊 No sorry no property for sale at this time.
If you bring a gun to alaska through the airport and tsa you will need the same identification you used at the beginning of the trip to reclaim your gun.
If you try to avoid the TSA and ship it to Alaska through a gun store to gun store shipment, you will need an ALASKA id card or drivers license to pick it up. I not only didn't have the AK id but I didn't have a birth certificate. Took me about three months to get my ID.
I grew up in Florida and sent a big pat of my life between there and the equator. love it here and never had a problem adjusting for only one reason, I learned how the locals do things here, they do it that way for a reason. IT WORKS.
Lots of opportunity for somebody who has a trade, is honest and is able to be self employed. If yo need a boss, you probably won't find a job. Since so many people are self employed, there just aren't that many openings.
That’s true, you do need an ID to check and pick up fire arms. I made a video about the “Real ID” that you will have to have by 2020 to fly anywhere in the US. It’s BS in my opinion.
I agree if you are self motivated and have the drive to succeed, you will do good no matter where you are in the world.
Take care rondel.
3.60 in gas? Here in california it has been in the 4-5 dollar range at time lol
I live in interior Alaska....moved up from the lower 48 in 1993. Five things: 1) No state sales tax, no state income tax, moderate property tax. 2) Free hunting/fishing license for residents at age 60 3) PFD check for every member of the family (amount varies each year, ranges $800 - $2000 for every family member 4) No property tax for first $150,00 for disabled vets or seniors 5) No vehicle inspections and permanent vehicle registration for vehicles older than 8 years (Z tabs).
5 great reasons.
as far as the sun, i would fly to Hawaii for a few months.
That would be nice.
I'm really thinking of moving to Alaska
I’ve loved it every since I got here.

I actually recently applied to a Sports Reporting position in Fairbanks, and would be moving to Alaska from Colorado if I do get the job! What was the most difficult thing for you when transitioning to the Alaska lifestyle?
We moved here from Fort Carson Colorado. The biggest transition for me was the constitutional care, being able to lone a gun to a friend without a background check and have more than 10 round magazines😂
Seriously, there wasn’t that big of a transition. The darkness of the winter and in Fairbanks the negative temps may be the biggest issue. Oh and plugging your car in so it starts in the morning.
Pass the Dutchie to the left hand side.😁
You know it. 😂
This is so cool!! Is it really so expensive?
Thanks. You do get paid a little more but gas in Oklahoma is 99 cents right now and here it’s $3.40. Just one comparison. 👍
On my way,,,,
I couldn't take the cold dark winters; mosquitoes in the summer.
We are lucky we don’t get mosquitoes here.
All though I love your videos and I appreciate your "What is it like" style content, Juneau is well known as the one of the most expensive areas in Alaska to live or visit. So lets compare it to Manhattan, Beverly Hills or San Francisco! In most areas that are considered "expensive" places to live in the USA, a VERY small 2 bedroom home can easily go from 2 to 5 million. 6 months ago when i was in NYC for work, the cheapest gas i saw in town was $4.89/Gal. My point? You are comparing apples to oranges.
Agreed.
Thanks for Your transparency! What about home heating costs, water home delivery, and how to navigate sanity during the longer dark months? How do You encourage Your Family during both Winter and Summer Solstice? What of crime?
For gas here on longilsand some place are 3.15 homes are over priced and taxs are crazy i mean stupied expasive 10k for and are old house was even more that up aroind 12k for a year. So it expasive in ny
matt brugger I hear ya. NY and Cali are known for being expensive. A lot of people think it’s cheap to live in Alaska. It is not. We have to have produce and most other items shipped here on a barge from Washington.
I have to be honest I haven’t even changed a tire, what in you’re opinion should be my first steps in preparing for the move?
First step would always be find employment and it’s always good to work to be debt free if you are not already at there.
