      Totally get it! Everyone's life circumstances are different. I definitely see myself seeking a loctician once I'm not traveling so much & if I can find one that'll do my hair. A lot politely opt out because of the length of my hair. They've said it's too long!

      @UCKfZfpwgtbECDOo_QWw4eRQ mine is getting to that point. I get in moods where I want to cut it down some. I did it a year and a half ago and now it’s long again and I struggle with keeping it long or trimming again 😩

      I'd love to do the same! But since my hair is long + I'm a transfer client, I've had a hard time finding consultants who would be willing to do my hair. And the few times I have, sometimes they try to take advantage of me and try to charge 4x what they should. All the while, 9/10 I can do my hair within the same amount of time it takes many consultants who are not used to retightening locs at this length.

    I glad you pop up this afternoon... You reference your locks: sister locks. Here in Duval i am told they are micro locks. Nevertheless, I really like this type lock; but not the length of time to complete the process of applying, and the unraveling them. And, I don't think I'm ready for soo many many many tiny locks. I'm still trying to weigh the pros and cons and some one on a few occasions to assist me with befitting hair styles and maintaining healthy locks.

    • @ImaniGoodridge
      @ImaniGoodridge  Год назад +5

      Just to clarify, she has sisterlocks! The twists you may be referring to is how she twists her sisterlocks into sections of twists to make her hair at this length less likely to get caught in things. Her sisterlocks were established using the sisterlocks method. Not twists or braids that were left in to eventually loc. If I misunderstood you, disregard my comment!

      Yes, but that's normal. The longer your hair, the heavier it is. Curls will always have longer lasting volume the shorter it is. But you can still have long lasting curls at any length. I'm 9 months in and my locs thin at scalp and thick on the ends... Is that normal on the journey? Or will they thicken later for each individual loc?

    • @ImaniGoodridge
      @ImaniGoodridge  Год назад +7

      I'm not a loctician or certified in any way and will never claim to be! That said, if you're only 9 months in, your locs are likely still in the budding phase. It's normal for them to have thicker ends. They'll look thinner at the scalp because freshly retightened hair is essentially a new loc. Over time, you locs will mature and look more condensed and less thick along the entire shaft.

    • @StarlessTerrace
      @StarlessTerrace Год назад +5

      That's normal. As your hair sheds, it becomes a part of the loc. Just make sure that when you get reties, it isn't painful or giving you a headache. In that case, your hair is probably being pulled too tight.

    I enjoyed seeing you and mom chat and vibe on locs. Thanks for the interesting video. Questions:
    What isnyiur hair porosity? What is your mom's hair porosity?
    For your mom: has her hair growth changed over the years? If yes, how so?
    Has she ever had any issues with her locs thinning over the years? Some women have some thinning as they go through the change of life has she or even any mature lady friends or family dealt with that on their loc or natural hair journey and if so, what might she/they suggest to help keep the hair from further thinning or shedding?
    Blessings sis.

    • @ImaniGoodridge
      @ImaniGoodridge  Год назад +1

      My porosity = high
      Mom porosity = "normal"
      No change in hair growth or thinning. She's always had finer edges but same hair density throughout her life. So she can't speak on those experiences but they are normal!

  • @Banana-lk7tf

    I'm a little discouraged. I noticed you can do several styles in your 733 locs, whereas I can barely do anything in my 540 sisterlocks (but a half up/half down style) because my hair is too thick. I'm curious to know, are sisterlocks easier to style when you have smaller locs and a larger number of locs (my sisterlocks are on the Medium-large side)? I can barely put mine in a low ponytail, let alone a high one. For more context, I'm 2.5 years in my journey and my hair is about 3" past my shoulders. Also, I have very dense hair, enough hair for 3-4 people. I never had the plucked chicken look when I got my locs installed. Other than my hairline, I couldn't see my scalp. Thanks, in advance!🙏

    • @tashliketrash9350
      @tashliketrash9350 9 месяцев назад

      Styling is definitely easier with smaller locs because the smaller the locs are the more they act like hair strands

      I use a giant satin scrunchie on amazon or a faux sisterloc strand to tie it in a ponytail works wonders my hair is super dense as well can't fit in a regular ponytail holder. And if I don't have that I use my own locs to tie a ponytail or updo.

      Not at all. Like raw coconut oil in it's solid form, take a very small amount in the palm of your hand and wait for it to melt before applying to your hair. And she doesn't use it very often. At most maybe biweekly. Keep in mind that it's not just shea butter. The majority of it is other oils that she blends into a mixture with a bit of shea butter. It's 3 parts oil, 1 part shea butter.

    It’s been eight weeks since my last retighting session.
    I hope you can help me. I am looking forward to hearing from you.
