the brilliance of Holmes taking care of Moriarty's soldiers: He uses the incoming train to place blame of the phosphorus cloud on the smoke, which coated the soldiers' uniforms, and disabled the rifle by jamming the barrel, and the spark generated from the bullet striking the obstruction igniting the phosphorus on the soldiers - brilliant.

There were six soldiers each with AT LEAST one rifle. Holmes only blocked one. Odds were AT LEAST 6:1 that just the right soldier ONLY would be in position to fire for the 4:06 to happen.
After all these years watching this scene for so many times, I just realized Holmes called Watson that the way his wife called him, right after throwing his newly wed wife out of a fast moving train, lol.
