    This is such an interesting video to watch and I really like your observations on the right.     is it common in the industry to draw small heads? or is it a style thing

      That's a style thing for me for the most part (long ingrained bad habit of small heads and long legs!). I do know the industry tends towards 'heroic' proportioned humans as you want them characters the audience plays to feel more 'aspirational', so around 8 heads tall, vs the 7 heads for your 'average' human.
