    • @fomomofo6917
      @fomomofo6917 Месяц назад

      Deadblow hammers are designed to not damage the things that they are striking, are made of rubber or plastic, and are filled with shot. This is pretty much the opposite of that.

    • @LarryLeeder
      @LarryLeeder Месяц назад +4

      @@fomomofo6917 Yeahhh... I've been using dead-blow hammers for 30 years almost daily, I Currently have three Lixies. In a hammer, the principle is to amplify the 《blow》 as the shot or sand delivers an inertial hit, and also to 《deaden》 any dangerous rebound.
      This axe operates on the same first principle of amplifying the strike with the inertial load. So yeah, it works basically the same way.
      I work with blocks of steel weighing thousands of kgs, and I can move them on my machine table with my 2" or 3" Lixie. The non-marring property of the urethane tips is a non-issue to me. But do go on. 🙄

    I collect (and use) axes. I've seen a lot of creative designs over the years but this is a unique one. I know there have been plenty of hatchets designed with a "full tang" handle but this has to be the first full sized axe I've seen with one. (I'm not counting Estwings 3/4 axe) I know that if you're swinging it all day It's more comfortable to have a handle that has some flex and shock absorption, but for sheer durability that looks like a winner. I love that your took the time and care to get the handle aligned straight and not lose the blade temper. I see axes on the peg at the store where the manufacturer couldn't be bothered to line up the handle with the bit. I know it probably won't matter with this handle design with the steel taking all the stress but the grain orientation for the slabs will irk an axe purist. Beautiful piece, clever design. I wish I could try it out chopping as well as splitting, see how deep it bites into the side of a log. I've got a Flotaxe in my collection, a hollow bush plane emergency harchet that's designed to be filled with sand/ dirt/ water to provide weight (kind of a deadblow axe) and it does chop, just not quite as well as a traditional hatchet.

    Final product looks great! This was a really nifty idea. Reminds me of some weird stuff I read in a D&D book when I was in high school (third edition or 3.5, which was current at the time): Swords that featured a reservoir of mercury in the pommel that would get drawn into a tube as the weapon was swung, adding impact to the hit. Can't remember what precisely that did in game terms, but I thought the concept was pretty cool... apart from the dangerous monkeying about with mercury, anyhoo.

    • @BillBird-df3pf

    • @frantisekvrana3902
      @frantisekvrana3902 3 месяца назад +3

      I feel that kind of design is better than this axe.
      If the weight moves across the haft (or the blade of the sword), it moves the center of mass as you swing, making your weapon easy to accelerate but hard to stop.
      With what this guy made, it seems pointless. It would have the same effect if he just welded the balls in place. Perhaps that would be even better, since they would deliver their momentum with the rest of the head, rather than a split second later.

    • @BillBird-df3pf
      @BillBird-df3pf 2 месяца назад +1

      @@frantisekvrana3902 any heavy weapon is like that which is why true battle axes are very thin and warhammers have small heads and a thin spike. Any deflection with a heavy weapon is very hard on the wrists and overall maneuverability.

    interesting take on that.
    though I do think integrating the sliding weight into the handle itself would be more effective.
    think of a slide hammer with an axe head.
    longer path of travel for weight.

      I have lots of different ideas im working on in this line of axes, i liked how this one worked and the weight wasn’t more than usual

    I would like to see you test it with it as designed and with a piece of wood in each pipe taking up the free room. To see if the moving balls are actually doing anything beyond making noise.

    It's because it fits.
    Having smaller pellets behave closer to a fluid whereas this only allows motion along a 1 dimensional line according to the axe head. It's like using those machines at the gym vs using actual weights vs using those wacky weights with springs. You end up using energy to stabilize it without realizing it.
    I wonder what else can be done to make it more interesting.

    You've combined the features of an axe, a deadblow hammer and a messer. I dub this the Deadblow Messaxe. It looks cool enough to be a signature movie hero or villain weapon.

    i thought it wouldnt really be scaled up enough to be noticable but when you chopped the melon and log, it looked like it cut the melon, stopped, then split the log, i think even though its at a small scale, it actually works pretty well

    Wonderful video a Twist you could do to this style of experiment is make an ax using the Hammerhead darts as a example for the ax head. It just have to be shaped in a way to follow through on the hit.

    Hello! One might argue that filling up those tubes with molten metal would result in more mass, and less energy loss on vibrations caused by the impact of the weights inside the tube, but the other might argue that a layered bullet proof glass can actualy stop a bullet compared to a not layered one with similar thickness. Very interesting idea

    Maybe some kind of fluid in the cylinders? Or make the tolerance between the cylinders and the weights super tight? Just a suggestion
