    the steps to become Real Madrid are very obvious:
    Win Major Trophies -> Attract top talents -> Win More Major Trophies -> Attract MORE top talents to sign -> More merchandise Sales -> More Money to Spend -> Win MORE Major Trophies consistently -> Club Prestige Increase -> Attract MORE top talents to sign + Top Talents will want to stay longer -> MORE Money from Merchandising + Ticket Sales + Sponsorships + Network Deals, etc-> MORE Money to sign new Top Talents/Keep top talents -> WIN MORE TROPHIES ALWAYS -> etc etc
    When success happens consistently, it becomes cyclical. But it all starts with actually winning major trophies. This great resuscitation Arsenal is undergoing in the last few years has been amazing. We're attracting talented players now because we're trending, and players can take pride in potentially joining the best club to win Major trophies in England while joining from the ground up (vs joining an existing winning team Man City). BUT if we dont actually win any major trophies, or our trophies are just local England ones and we still cant win European trophies, we'd lose our luster quickly again and we can't reach Real Madrid level ever.
    WE NEED TO WIN Major Trophies (PL+ CL for this conversation. No one cares about FA cup and below outside of England), then all this conversation about becoming the Real Madrid of England can become an actual reality.

      You missed two steps. One is that it helps if the ruler of your country is a fan of your club, ties his ideas about national identity to your club's identity and goes out of his way to inconvenience your club's rivals. The other is if your club president uses the club to leverage his own commercial firm's interests. Case in point, said club president sells the club's training ground to the city for a new financial district, clearing a lot of club debt, and then his firm gets the best construction contracts for the project. That training ground, we must remember, was ceded to the club by the long deceased club supporting dictator.
      Sorry, Real Madrid just has had so many advantages to get to their position that I don't think that aspiring to be like them is admirable.

    But honestly, you guys, did any of you want to play Eddie, ESR, Nelson, etc, in the title run-in? Is there a time in the game that you guys felt the game needed Eddie or ESR, or Vieira and Reiss? Be honest. Apart from Jesus and Martinelli and / or Jorgi towards the end, these are the three players anyone would feel comfortable coming on as subs. The team has moved past our fringe players.

    George is spot on about Mikel's squad management, and this issue goes beyond just Smith Rowe. Eddie Nketiah was frozen out in the second half of the season despite performing well in the first half, warranting more opportunities as the season progressed. The same applies to Nelson, Vieira, and Kiwior.
    The Aston Villa game stands out as a key example. Mikel should have utilized the squad better, as a win against Villa could have positioned us as champions by May. The players looked exhausted, yet he continued to field the same squad against Bayern. By that point, we had no chance. After our match, Villa struggled in every subsequent game.

    • @willwilliams9582
      @willwilliams9582 25 дней назад +2

      That’s such a poor take. We crushed Villa in the first half. It had nothing to do with selection. Trossard missed a sitter. It happens. FYI our poorest part of the season was when Eddie played upfront. Why continue to play him?

He will trust players he brings in for the jobs he wants them to do. Smith Rowe may be the exception as he could be adaptable but yeah he has no real trust in Eddie or nelson

    • @chy.0190

      Its a fact historically Real and Barca were able to rest key players way more than PL teams have. Its also why the two teams get away with not having deep squads. Real can get away with having Ceballos as a squad player, top teams in England cannot. The style of play is way more physically draining on players in England, in Spain its more technical.
      You cannot keep complaining about PL having more money than teams in other leagues, and then also deny that the quality of players in the league from top to bottom is better than other leagues. Its a contradictory stance for you foreign fans to take.

      @@kunimitsune177 no team in the world can rest 11 players when they chose so depends on how many players you want to rest. Look at Man City they can rest. Other teams across Europe trust youth systems more. Look at United’s spending over the last decade or Chelsea plus players they’ve bought through they should easily be able to rotate a lot of players if the money was properly invested

    Real Madrid already build their legacy in the 50s and 60s by winning 5 European Cups. Lets take it one step at a time. However, they are a great example of how to sustain success from one cycle (the Ronaldo years) to the one the have now (the vini/ jude/ mbappe years). Now that is something that has rarely been done before, because before, even Madrid themselves struggled to stay at the very heighest level. We need to make the most out of the next 5-8 years trophy wise, and I can see us doing that, but staying top might be even harder than getting there. So yeah, lets take example after Madrid, but lets also be real about what phase we are in now.

    There is no doubt in my mind Arteta will win the Premier League but this club needs a UCL title more than any club in world football, based on what I've seen from him in knockout competitions so far I don't have any reason to think Arteta will be the one to deliver (granted the sample size is non-negligible but small);
    2nd leg v Bayern was very disappointing, at best Porto matched us tactically over 2 legs; his overall UEL record is poor; 4 years in Arteta's squad management is still in question, his aversion to superstars (the fact that we're linked to Sesko and not a superstar is telling granted my mind could be changed on that subject)...
    That being said I'm not #ArtetaOut, I just want us to look at our situation objectively before we start aiming for Real Madrid levels of success, I don't think people realize how far away we are from UCL title-worthy, historically: 1 final, 1 semi-final since 1954... before even thinking of winning the UCL we need to overcome our inferiority complex in the competition (IMO we need a statement win over 2 legs vs a favorite (Real or City atm))
    We have a long way to go as a club, Arteta too as a coach, let's pump the brakes on these convos.

    Vini junior had more question marks as a prospect than Victor Osimhen has now. Over runs the ball, sometimes runs faster than every player on the pitch including his striking partner and squares the ball for a final pass to no one.

    Regards to Arteta being scared to change a winning formula:
    Remember the Villa loss at home in 2024? He changed the squad to reinsert Jesus at the 9 and brought Havertz into midfield. They loss and till now so many fans and rival fans still point to that game as the reason "Arteta loss" us the league, chiming "Why did he change a winning formula", "we were winning everygame with x/y structure, why did he bring xx on".
    Im sure that affects Arteta's decision making too..
    Regards to Arteta not giving fringe players more minutes, Im thinking if we didnt match Prem league clubs so early in the cup competitions, these Fringe players would've gotten more, including Nwaneri. He was playing Viera, Ramsdale, Nelson, etc in the Carabao loss to West Ham. In fact, Kiwior played in Saliba's position in that game.

    The reaaon Arteta stuck with Kai imo is
    1. Anyone can see the difference in body language from the beginning of the season and towards the end with Kai. It's obvious he lacked confidence and was going through something mentally. I feel Arteta knew this and wanted to build him up.
    2. Kai is a new signing, some new signings take a while to kick on some get going right away. Imo Kai took a little bit and right now displaces Jesus in the starting line up.
    3. Players like Eddie and Nelson aren't good enough, Kai out scored Eddie's best season already... Doku is trusted because he is good... Nelson isn't.

    What I've noticed with George is that if it's a player he really likes, there are no negatives, he's "the one".
    People have been put off from Osimhen due to the stupid fee he will demand, the stupid wages he wants. At that fee and those wages, there is a bigger chance he comes to the league and flops. I'd much rather pay that fee for Isak (prem proven) or pay half the price, half the wages on Sesko. The Osimhen money is way too much.

    • @TheCannonPod
      @TheCannonPod  25 дней назад +2

      Nope there are negatives which I've outlined many times before but I've also justified why they are supported in this team and system. We will do an individual scouting report as well just like with Sesko tho dont worry.
      Your not buying a solution to the major box issues, transition decision making, LHS fluidity issue, or midblock solutions with the Sesko idea. Many of his faults are things he will need 2 years to fix.
      On Isak thats been reliably reported to be completely off the table.

    My thoughts on the squad rotation:
    Not including GK’s.
    I’d say Arteta had 6 untouchable players last year.
    Gabe M, Saliba, White, Rice, Oodegard & Saka.
    I think he was comfortable to rotate at left back though Toni was preferred.
    In the end, run in he was comfortable to rotate Partey & Jorginho in the midfield.
    I also think he was very comfortable to Rotate Martinelli, Trossard & Jesus as well as the striker position.
    With Kai he tends to play full games because he’d either start in midfield & move to striker or vice versa but remember in about Nov/Dec he was starting to get benched before getting moved to #9.
    Thing is Jesus clearly was never fit and Martinelli has a shocker of a season.
    I think Ben white wouldn’t have been an untouchable if Timber was fit. I think you’re have seen more rotation there.
    This brings me to my point with ESR specifically. Once he got fit. (Late Jan/Early Feb, not 100% sure) faith similar to the likes of Kiwior, Zinchenko, Martinelli & Jesus ( less than Tomiyasu, Party & Jorginho) but more than Viera, Nelson & Eddie.
    My thing is I don’t think Arteta doesn’t trust him I think it’s that he plays in Oodegard’s position and Oodegard is unstoppable in Arteta’s eyes. Hence that puts him & anyone else we sign in that position into this rough position.
    Even next year I just struggle to see anyone getting much game time over Rice, Saliba, Saka & Oodegard. It’s not a slight on the player, I think Arteta see’s their value far too high and that’s an Arteta issue.
    For the 10 out field positions I think Arteta
    Trusts:
    14 player’s
    Final day starting 10 + (Martinelli, Jesus, Jorginho, Timber)
    Semi trusts:
    3 more
    ( Zinchenko, Kiwior & ESR)
    Then the rest I don’t think he really trusts them
    (Viera, Eddie, Nelson, +youth)
    I think without injury concerns I think Arteta sees his trusted team between 14 to 17 out field players + the 2 goal keepers. So 16-19 in total.
    He said he wants an outfield Squad of 20 plus GK’s so make of that what you will.

    • @Denlar96
      @Denlar96 26 дней назад +1

      I fully agree with this. I just hope with another years experience and certain players improving + getting used to the system we are playing. These players begin to more trusted by Arteta, as we need more rotation across the team throughout the season.
      The last 2 seasons, we have got 2 separate things right. Starting a season very strong and this season ending a season very strong. If we can do what Pep does with City and rotate the squad enough throughout the season, this will help players not burn out and hopefully combine the best parts of our last 2 seasons. Our best players will benefit much more from not having to play every minute or certainly almost every minute available. It should help with injuries and keeping everyone match fit/sharp if they are needed to start a game, or come on to impact a game.

    38:30 Martinelli is not a 'super star'. I think he's actually extremely over rated. I like him as a player but I do not LOVE him as a player. He has not made the improvements I would hope to see from him over the years and still holds some of the same flaws as the day he arrived. He has an eye for goal and works hard defensively but not a great deal more. I need to see a lot more from him.

    • @Denlar96
      @Denlar96 26 дней назад +5

      As much as I see where you are coming from, you have to remember that this season, Martinelli hasn't had a consistent left side with him. Last season, he had xhaka and zinchenko playing with him pretty much every game. If he has a consistent LB and LCM to work with, he will perform much better.
      Now, I do agree that the best players in the game have to adapt to certain situations. But do you think Saka would have the same output compared to not having Odegaard and White behind him?
      You build trust and an understanding with players. I would say Saka would still perform well, but not to the extent of what he has done the last 2 seasons.
      If we get a LCM, who starts nost games and say for example, Timber starts most games at LB. After a couple of months, Martinelli will be hitting the heights of what he was doing last season. Maybe even better.

      I don’t think it’s fair to call him “extremely overrated” after 1 bad season. He played very well last year with Xhaka creating and the year before with tierney overlapping. This year, he was isolated on the left.

      Disagree. The Kronke's made the Denver Nuggets champions for god's sake. They are in the business of sports ownership, how many other owners can you say that about? The prem is owned by oil money and venture capitalists that flail about throwing money at problems. I think this is actually an advantage. They've shown they can bunker down, let a manager struggle to realize their vision and trust the process. I don't think being the Real Madrid is the goal for us. England's got too many competitive teams with more banana peel teams incoming (Newcastle and Aston Villa). But if we get 3 prems and a champions league with a couple cups in there, that's the spice of life baby! I'll be a happy camper for another decade before we can do it all over again.
