What authorizations is needed to set up an aquaculture farm in SA? I think that aquaculture is a great way to fight food insecurity/shortages, especially with water levels rising.
@@mrsam3236 It's a strange thing that. I am generalizing of course but in Europe and Russia and China for example, people love eating carp. In the USA and Africa, people love eating catfish, yet don't like carp. A lot of people see these species as dirty or trash fish. Which is actually a pity, as when they are prepared properly they taste great. To get rid of any muddy taste just soak the fish in vinegar for at least 12 hours. This takes away any such taste and in the case of carp the vinegar also dissolves most of the small bones.
@@zeph6439 just like pigs are considered 'dirty'; they're only dirty because they're kept in dirty, overcrowded environments. Pigs are actually very clean, if free to roam, they won't defecate where they live, rather choosing to go over to the neighbour.
@@Visionery1 I agree wholeheartedly. If you put a carp in a drum of clean water for a few days after being taken from a muddy river, it will taste much better. Ethical farming definitely pays off in the long run - just look at the taste difference between a free range chicken and a factory farmed one. You can taste the fish meal they use and who knows what kind of drugs and steroids. Fish do best on a clean natural diet, for example catfish thrive on carp chunks.
Hi Moe. The department offers training in a form of internships advertised annually towards the end / last quarter of the year. Check our website, social media and the press during that time. Also, experiential learning is available upon request. Send e-mail with your contact details to callcentre@environment.gov.za and explain in detail what you need.
I need to learn more on this, extremely interested 🇿🇦
Smart farming is the future ,aquaculture RAS sytems water wise and glabal friendly . Fish = waste=nitrification=nitrates =grow any food .

Great!! Like it. Thank for showing.
Catfish are an excellent species for fish farming. If you know how, you can breed them out just about all year round.
DO PEOPLE REALLY LIKE TO EAT IT ?
