Never heard them called Banger rolls. I used to make my own with shortcrust pastry and put red onion in with the sausage meat. My daughter is an absolute sausage roll fiend, i have seen her munch through a nearly full pack of the little ones and there's usually 50 in a bag of frozen

The package said banger rolls but on their website it says sausage rolls. I wonder if that is a way to try to appeal to Americans? Who knows. But...they were so good and can't wait to try to make some!

I’m so glad you enjoyed them. Personally I have them just as they are, no sauce. As for when I buy them, for me its a snack to have rather than a meal. With Greggs all over the place its easy to pop in and buy a sausage roll; although they do so much more than just sausage rolls…
Have you tried pork pies yet? Those are nice too. At least I think so.

Sausage Rolls can be eaten hot or cold once cooked... Typically we tend to buy them hot from Greggs Bakery or a Supermarket for a lunchtime snack... We can also eat them cold as part of an outdoor picnic... Along with things like Sandwiches... Scotch Eggs... Pork Pies... Quiche... We also serve them for an evening meal... Kids are rather partial to Sausage Rolls with Chips and Baked Beans... But whichever way you have them... They're a firm favorite here in the UK.

Sausage rolls are the best. Good sausage meat with good seasoning . We have them as a snack or with baked beans and chips. Yes nice with HP sauce. Gregg's sausage rolls are brill too. 😜

I love a sausage roll! Along with the larger ones (like the ones you had in the video), we also have smaller versions that you'll find whenever you go to a party or function where there is a buffet. I like them just as they come, but if I were to have a sauce with them, HP would be the one as it goes really well with sausages.

Never heard them called "Banger Rolls". There are no rules to eating them, have them anyway you want. We are laid back in the UK go to a shop usually "Sayers or Gregg's" although supermarkets have them too, you get them cold or, warm in papers bags, you see people just walking along eating them straight from the bag. Sauce is excellent with them also, Picalilli and Ketchup.

Bangers are sausages, which are sausagemeat encased in skins.
Sausage rolls are made from sausagemeat encased in pastry.
The pastry can be either flakey pastry, puff pastry, or shortcrust pastry - different but all good.
If you can't get sausagemeat, simply remove the casings from regular sausages.
Usually made in a long lengths (halve pastry sheet lengthways) fold pastry over long 'sausage' of raw sausagemeat, moisten & seal edge, brush with milk/egg-wash, cut to desired portion lengths, and bake till cooked.
Can be made small for party nibbles, or longer for a snack or meal.

I make them for gatherings. Last weekend for a friend’s birthday party and will be making 50+ sausage rolls for our street party celebrating the Queen’s platinum jubilee in a few weeks. They are made with a flaky pastry and sausages accompanied by HP, ketchup, mayo or just as you ate them.

You can make the filling with minced pork with anything you like to season. You can use flaky pastry pre-prepared. They are really a commoner's lunch and usually got from a cheap bakery and eaten on the go. . Kids love them. They also are used on buffets

They are available in high street bakeries, along with pasties, which you would also like. Two most famous pasties in my opinion are cheese and onion pasty and cornish pasty. I like corned beef pasty too. A popular bakery is Greggs, give it a google!

I now live in the Philippines and last Christmas I made some for the family get together.......they went down a storm, requests to make more in the future, sadly I had to say no, but I so enjoyed them. Try to make your own puff pastry, it's a lot of work but not only can you use it for many other items....the end result is worth it.

Sausage rolls are awesome. We have them all different sizes, bite size for finger food at parties, larger ones for lunch instead of a sandwich, or with chips and a salad for dinner. Usually just buy them but nan used to make her own at Christmas when she made her mince pies, we would get a lunch box of each for Christmas day supper.

Sausage rolls are definitely an any time food. You can get them from the local bakery for a quick bakery breakfast alongside or instead of any other of our morning pastries. You can have them for lunch too.
If you have them for dinner you’d probably have some from the butcher or the bakery in the fridge from earlier and then reheat them in the oven. You’d probably have them then with baked beans and some chips. Or baked beans and some fried eggs. As you said yeah, also some peas and sweetcorn and maybe a bit of cabbage or something.

Sausage rolls are super popular in the UK we literally have them everywhere in Bakery's and supermarkets. The most popular Sausage roll is GREGGS you can buy a pack of four for £4 but they can be bought singingly so you could literally be at work at be on a break and nip down to the bakery or supermarket and pick them up. I do love Sausage rolls but I'm a pie person so love them more.

Greggs a large bakery chain in the UK sells around 140 million sausage rolls a year. Many other places sell them as well in small snack sizes up to jumbo size. For me its a grab as a snack on the go often warm but sometimes cold.

  • @claire4167

They're a snack, small versions are on buffets at parties etc. Mostly brought ready made or frozen to bake. I make my own garlic sausage rolls. Buy puff pastry, choose your fave sausage, remove skin, add a crushed clove of garlic mix in the sausage meat and roll into strips to put on the pastry, dab of milk to seal, close and crimp pastry, cut to size and bake. Can use sausage meat if you donf want to skin sausages but I prefer the sausages as ready seasoned..easy to make. Prefer mine cold after baked.

You can eat sausage rolls anytime. But I usually make my own it's extremely easy. I buy puff pastry, Cumberland sausages or sausage meat. Just fill the pastry with meat the egg wash. Then cut in bite size then bake ❤

There are 100's of recipes for homemade sausage rolls - usually family recipes ...Laura they are super easy to make and i think definitely taste better...personally i make shortcrust pastry (plain flour, unsalted butter or even better lard (produces crispier pastry) and an egg yolk and tiniest splash of water) ...mix the dough as minimally as possible (thats the secret) - literally until just holds together - gently roll out into a long rectangle...lay the sausage meat along the centre (sausage meat from the butchers if you can get it) and roll the pastry over to encase the sausage - glue the pastry seam with a little milk. Then cut into the desired lengths - brush with a little milk or eggwash, and bake until the pastry is golden and sausage cooked - approx 30mins but that depends on the size of rolls you have made - obviously adjust the time as needed. ...some people prefer puff pastry - just as good but a pain to make if you are home baking them....

Glad you love the sausage roll, you can get them pretty much anywhere, they are a staple, I like them for brekky, snack at lunch or just when you're on the go, you can get them in mini size, normal, large and the list goes on.
Most weddings, funerals and birthday parties have them with the buffet. Every supermarket sells a version, most towns have bakeries where you can buy them fresh, and people will argue who makes the best.
Enjoy trying to make your own, because I'm curious on your take on them.
If you can order them in that's awesome, but remember the sausage in a sausage roll is its own thing

Those look yummy, i have sausage rolls regularly, Greggs bakery do some lovely sausage rolls as well as pies, cakes etc, there is a place in London called Borough market which has a lot of food stalls one of them is called the Ginger pig which does some amazing sausage rolls, an American couple (the magic geekdom) came to the UK in March/April this year and tried the sausage rolls at the Ginger pig and loved them. My nan used to do some amazing homemade sausages when i was young. if they are freshly made i don't tend to have any sauce with them. if they have been refridgerated for a while they tend to go a bit dry so will add sauce then and yes brown sauce goes great with them. Glad you enjoyed them.

Sausage rolls can vary a lot, depending on where you get them. They can be terrible or absolutely amazing!
As a rule I prefer to eat them cold.
They're usually eaten just as a snack - they're easy walking & eating food! You'll often see them as part of a buffet too.
Gregg's (a bakery chain) version is a very good and cheap one.

Oh easy peasy shortcut: buy puff pastry (not sure what it's called in USA if not that, but it's flaky pastry) and buy sausagemeat, or skin some herby sausages (though I think Italian would also work). Roll out your pastry, slather on the sausagemeat on one side, you can add HP sauce, cheese, or onion chutney if you want a fancy sausage roll, and then close up your pastry roll and cut into whatever size you want. Use a beaten egg to glaze, then bake till the meat is cooked.
They can be eaten any time but we have a bakers called Greggs which is on EVERY high street so you can one for £1 for a snack or for a lazy lunch. All your serving suggestions sound fab though.

They are sausage rolls , sooo easy to make with ur fav sausage and some ready made flakey pastry . They are a snack eaten hot or cold . Mini ones are always on party buffets.
They are nice with ketchup or hp.
The only time ive heard sausages called bangers is for bangers and mash .
They got the nickname from bangin in the pan when fried when the skin splits.
So u can take any sausage meat out of the skin to make sausage rolls or scotch eggs also a summer picnic item . As they are cheap you always see toddlers with cold sausage rolls about town completely covered in the flakey pastry 🤣🤣

The sausage roll that you are consuming probably consists of short crust or flaky pastry and sausagemeat. It is NOT covered with bread.
You can have sausage rolls that have a pickle such as Branston Pickle in them though.
You can make sausage rolls very easily at home.
    SAUSAGE ROLLS
    INGREDIENTS
    Short crust or flaky pastry
    Sausages
    Salt
    Pepper
    Egg, beaten for glazing
    METHOD
1 Roll pastry out into an oblong, if you have not bought ready rolled of course.
2 Skin the sausages, a nice flavoured sausage would be ideal such as pork and apple.
3 Place the sausagemeat into a bowl and mix in salt and pepper
4 Take the sausagemeat and place on the pastry along the edge.
5 Roll the pastry over to cover the meat and seal the edges together with water.
6 Cut into 5 inch lengths or you can make bite size at around 2 inches.
7 Glaze with a beaten egg
8 Bake in the oven until the pastry is golden and sausagemeat is cooked through. Here in
The UK it take around 20 minutes.
I have not stated oven temperatures as I do not know how US ovens work.
Sausage rolls are a snack food and can be eaten cold as well. They are good with crisps for lunch. You can have tomato, or brown sauce, salad any thing really.
I have NEVER heard them call banger rolls in tbe 50 odd years shave been alive.
In the olden days sausages had a lot if rubbish ingredients trim them and if you did not trick them the fat in them would make them explode, hence the name bangers Theae days though there is no need to prick them as tbe ingredients are better alnd they will no longer explode in the frying pan.

Every bakery in the UK has their own sausage roll , some are basic and others are sold as gourmet . The basics would be Gregg's which are slim and an equal balance of pastry and meat , whereas a gourmet has a lot more meat to pastry. Personally I only eat Gregg's sausage rolls when I'm out and about and need a snack to eat in the street , but when I get into Gregg's theres a lot of choice !! 🥰🥰🥰

I make my own simple good quality sausage wrapped in puff pastry or shortcrust. Good as hot or cold snack. Or meal with chips and Heinz baked beans.
Bangers are sausages the name came I think from the war when more water and things were mixed in and so when fried in a pan they would spit, sizzle split and ‘bang’ more. 😜

It’s puff pastry around the sausage meat. You can make them easily. It is just seasoned sausage meat and puff pastry. In the uk we can buy frozen sausage meat and frozen puff pastry and you can add any flavour you want such as herbs or onion. It is normally a snack food eaten with either ketchup or hp/brown sauce. Some people take it to school/work for lunch. They are good with baked beans too. Never call them banger rolls, they are sausage rolls. Banger rolls are what you call sausage links in America in a bread roll with fried onions and sauce.

When we were kids our mum would make them by the oven tray full, rarely did any last long enough to go cold. As for sauces, in chronological order, ketchup, HP, Dijon mustard.
Yes you can have plateful as a meal, though mostly a snack on the go. They can even be found in a French bakery.

If you make your own try replacing the sausage meat with mixed chess and onion (mostly cheese).
We used to call CHEAP sausages bangers because the would burst in the frying pan, so banger still tends to refer to the cheaper kind. Never heard them called banger rolls, may be marketing for the US market.

Super easy to make. Just add seasonings and some finely diced onion to sausage meat, roll it out, wrap it in ready made puff pastry, cut to size, brush with milk and bake in the oven.

I have made them using store bought puff pastry and bulk sausage that I seasoned… I on occasion make meals from England to honor my grandfather who was from England and came to the states, he lived with us when I was growing up.my family had many English meals because of my grandfather.

I love sausage rolls, what a great snack food! Cheap to buy at shops like Greggs and supermarkets, but best home-made with your own fillings. I buy shop made puff pastry as is as good as home made an no hassle, use sausage meat for the filling, or minced chicken/turkey/veggie meat and go wild or mild with the seasoning! Cheese, chutney, herbs or spices you can add practically any flavour. Great hot out the oven or cold, I love ketchup on mine too! I usually make for Christmas or parties, no worries making too many, they soon disappear!

A sausage roll is an anytime food, usually a snack really. The quality varies quite a lot too depending on where you buy them from. Most go for Greggs here in the UK, but Wright's also do a mean sausage roll, but they are local to Stoke, as are their meat and potato pies, which are fantastic. Love your videos guys, I think I know who's finishing those off 😁

They are very easy to make yourself 😊 a pack of fresh or frozen puff pastry, some sausagemeat, herbs and seasoning etc… put the sausage meat etc in a bowl, mix in the herbs and seasoning and you can add some onions, chopped up red/green peppers and what I do is add a very large blob of Branston Pickle into the mix (this gives it a really tangy flavour!) now, roll out the pastry and cut into rectangles of your preferred size choice, carefully mould the mix into a “sausage shape” and place onto the pastry …. Make it look like a shop bought one 😉with a lid, glaze with a beaten egg and bake in a hot oven for 20-30 mins…. Your SAUSAGE ROLL life is now complete! A sausage in a bread roll is not a “sausage roll” - it’s a “sausage IN a roll” … 🤣🤣😳

Homemade is the best, but you need good sausage meat...Maybe an Italian sausage might work, you have to take the casing off and buy decent puff pastry.
You are right its an anytime meal

  • @juliantompkins9650

You can make your own as many people here do for Christmas and weddings etc. You need a touch of HP sauce or Lea and Perrings Worcester Sauce. These are anytime you wish. We sell them in packs of 5 but small size. The other way is to buy them as a big single for about £1 each. Good with baked beans or a salad. A normal sausage is a banger. Some posh sausages are not bangers.

You can have any sauce of your choice with these. If its a cheaper version, a stronger sauce would be better to use. But my normal go to is red sauce, and sprinkle some extra salt around the plate. (But I'd have salt on my cornflakes if it tasted good). I like to put them under the grill/oven to get an slightly burnt and crispy top. As for the banger roll thing, no they don't exist. Sausage rolls get the sausage bit from the sausage meat. And the banger gets its name because they used to burst open when cooked. Some people still prick their sausages with a fork, or put a slit in them with a knife. The time to eat any sausage roll is any time you fancy one and when you've got some in. The medium/normal ones come in a pack of 6 usually, and what most people buy. The small versions you usually get at kids parties, and the even smaller ones are when you're having a big gathering. They come in big freezer bags.
