“Cancer won’t be what kills you” that line right there makes me think on the spot Hoyt knew exactly who Jason was. As he says later that he was hoping he’d join his privateers and work for him being the next vass.
And if you think about it? Jason killing the Privateers is actually doing Hoyt a favor, remember that the way Jason snuck in? was through a group of traitors who stole from Hoyt during the chaos that followed Vaas's death, and the Pirates and Privateers are fighting for control of the island. I think Hoyt intentionally wanted Jason to destroy a good chunk of his organization because it was corrupt anyways, and it was also a test of his abilities, plus it gave him a ton of leverage over Jason, considering he already held his brother prisoner and had him torture his own brother. Jason is a natural born killer, bar none the most dangerous individual to have ever stepped on the island in a very long time, not since Hoyt himself took over the Rook Islands. Jason is the ultimate warrior, and Hoyt is the apex predator. Hoyt would be insane to NOT try and hire him, his organization would be virtually unstoppable. The sad part is? Jason would have probably been better off negotiating a deal with Hoyt to work for him in exchange for all of his friends, and his little brother, being allowed to leave the island. In one ending he is executed and in another he is a completely broken shell of a man, who will likely be unable to reintegrate into society. He completes his objective of getting his friends and family off the island, and is spared dying for nothing. If you think Hoyt wouldn't do this? Recall the poker game, "name your price, everybody has one. You're all puppets and we pull the strings! The system was designed to work that way!". Obviously, Jason is trading one evil for another, but he can always take over the organization later either because Hoyt is killed during the fighting with the Rakyat, he betrays Jason, or Jason just decides to take over by force. During the knife fight he also remarks how it's not personal and he doesn't take any pleasure in fighting him. I think Hoyt respected Jason to some degree, and at the very least, by signing on with Hoyt his friends are safe as part of the deal, his talents are beyond perfect for Hoyts organization, Jason embraces the animal he truly becomes and his life is spared. He rejects both his life back home in California, and Citra's mind control, he becomes a respected mercenary in a position that allows him to further grow his talents, and he still has enough morality to let his friends and little brother leave unharmed. He becomes more of an anti hero than a true monster, but still is NOT a good dude by the moral standards of virtually any other country or society that hasn't devolved into a state of lawlessness and anarchy like the Rook Islands have.
@@keithm5378 It does seem like Jason was better off with Hoyt than with Citra. Citra planned on killing him from the start, while Hoyt is pure business. Of course this would mean Jason has to be Puppet for Hoyt in exchange of his friends. Jason would basically completely become Vaas

11:17 Hoyt's character and voice actor is underrated compared to Vaas. I literally felt embarrassed and anxious when he ask "How stupid do you think I am". I had chills.
I am so utterly fed up with that cliche, where you go undercover, and somehow the Big Boss knows exactly who you are. Jason was supposed to be wearing the uniform that covered his face.
@@NostalgicGamerRickOShay This is explained by Jason's holiday camcorder footage being shown on a TV on the way when you torture Riley. Basically, they were already familiar with Jason Brody's voice, if not everything else, so the idea that Hoyt didn't recognise Jason from the beginning is much less believable than the idea that he would recognise him.
When I played this game for the first and haven't watch any cut scenes and read any thing about Far Cry 3 @ 4:16 Hoyt knew that you were there and at some point you had to face him.
Basically, besides being the boss of the privateers, the pirates also work under Hoyt. If Vaas disobeyed him, he could have ordered both pirates and privateers to hunt down Vaas.
@@diskmort Well after Vass is killed the pirates started to kill each other with the privaters so they wasnt exactly under Hoyt command. The pirates obeyed Vass and Hoyt give orders to Vass.
@@Catarssis347 In my headcanon, Hoyt thought that those pirates were outlive their usefulness after Jason killed Vaas, they've became aimless without Vaas leading them. Sure those pirates could be dangerous but let's be honest, they're dumb as hell compared to Hoyt's Privateers.
I just realized Vaas and Hoyt never speak eye to eye in the game, they only talk twice, once in a recording where you can feel the dismissal in Vaas tone, the other time right at the beginning of the game where Vaas listens, but doesn’t even look at Hoyt The fact that they only interact twice in the game and you can tell so much about their relationship is amazing. Maybe the choice to almost never have them in more scenes together is why they’re such great villains
Honestly I think the reason most people like Vaas more is because we see him first and he really feels like he’s getting set up to be the main villain, then he dies halfway through the game. The stakes felt very high with him. I feel like it’s kinda asking a lot from the average player to care about Hoyt as much as Vaas considering Vaas was introduced first and he killed Jason’s brother
People didn't like Hoyt that much at first because he was upstaged by Vaas. That may be the case but he was still a great villain. The two of them together only made this game even greater.
Nah. I think Hoyt is actually the superior character. Everyone’s always fangirling over Vaas. The hype around him just reminds of when Jared Leto played a totally vapid joker in suicide squad. Really eccentric over-the-top method acting, but ultimately a pretty basic deranged serial killer sociopath character. People always saying Hoyt has no backstory, totally boring character. Not true at all. His backstory is given to you in subtle tidbits, and you have to really pay attention. White South African slave trader who hates “natives”, presumably grew up under apartheid. Father was a poor, lowly, weak, and exploited proletarian. A diamond miner. He taught Hoyt that the company is god from a young age. Hoyt probably grew up full of bitterness and disdain over his weak father, determined to grow up and become the most ruthless and wealthy capitalist of them all. Also he has so many unforgettably hilarious lines, like “I’ll roast you in the furnace till your skin crackles like chicken!”, and “I prefer the European recordings! The brass sections in American orchestras are too bombastic!”, and also when he says “poker night!” and giggles and claps his hands like an excited little boy, even though he’s secretly planning something horrible. Vaas is like Darth Vader: Tragically fallen to the dark side, massive family problems, but ultimately a human being. Hoyt is Darth Sidious: totally inexplicable, inhuman, almost primordial, cold-blooded absolute evil that’s just come out of nowhere. Terrifying.
@@jackmaguire1158Right on brother. The duchebag manager who everyone hates is most likely abused by the psychopath CEO or owner of that same company. You can most likely understand the manager's position in the equation, the owner you can only hate.
@@jackmaguire1158 Thank you man. At least there is someone who paid attention while playing this game. I have the feeling that most players were simply "too stupid" to understand who or what Hoyt Volker actually is. They can't see that depth in the script. Vaas is a very simple villain. He is insane, shouts, brutal, insults a lot and has eliminated an important person in the protagonist's life. This is your average villain in a movie or series (I don't want to belittle Vaas, but I just didn't think he was that special). Hoyt, on the other hand, is a very realistic, intelligent and far-sighted villain. An ultimate capitalist who exploits every opportunity to make a profit. He doesn't shout a lot or use unnecessary insults and I think that somehow overwhelmed the average player. But if you pay attention and listen to what comes out of Hoyt's mouth, it quickly becomes clear how brilliant this character is.
Literally everyone on the island knows jason's face. Why do you think they know it's "snow white" or "jason brody", and not some random other guy? Hoyt was just playing into it to find out his own rat (sam).
I think Hoyt is a better villain because he is a fucking mastermind while Vaas is an insane drug addict. Sure, crazy people like Vaas are scary, but crazy geniuses like Hoyt can turn the world into a living hell. Hell, Hoyt made Vaas his bitch if you hear the radio transmission.
I think it would have been quite interesting if Vaas ended up killing Hoyte and taking over his little "empire". He sure as hell could have had the motivation
The only two characters that were interesting was Jason and Vass. Now some may wonder why I think Jason can compare with Vass. I think this becuase they are both the same. What I'm saying is, Vass was once like Jason, and Jason will eventually become Vass. Vass says 'You are me, and I am you'. While i'm not a big fan of the guy they chose to voice Jason, to be hones they should of stuck with the original voice actor they had for him, the guy from Deus Ex. But the changes he goes through is what's interesting. Theirs one line in the game where he talked with Diasy, I originally missed this cutscene but it's this line said by Jason is what makes it one of the best cutscenes in the entire game, right up there with encounters with Vass. 'Ya know, I never thought I'd be able to kill someone, the first time it felt wrong, which is good right? But now, it feels like winning.' Best line in the entire game. And here I thought Jason was just some spoiled rich kid.
Hoyt was definitely outshined by Vaas but I love his enthusiasm and his pragmatism toward his business. He cuts to the point and I liked that about him
Kainen Wright You missed the point. Sam couldn't use the knife on his chest because that would be too obvious and he'd be shot by the guards before he could adjust the knife's position in his hand and then lunge for Hoyt's neck, or whatever body-part Sam was planning to stick the knife in....The knife in Sam's boot was supposed to give him a chance to sneak it out from under the table while Hoyt was distracted by Jason.
At the beginning of the game you think Vaas is the boss, then you meet Hoyt and realize that Hoyt made Vass into what he is and how much more powerful Hoyt is than Vaas. He made Vaas his bitch basically.
Basically, besides being the boss of the privateers, the pirates also work under Hoyt. If Vaas disobeyed Hoyt, he could have ordered both pirates and privateers to hunt down Vaas.
"See, I prefer the European recordings. The brass sections in American orchestras are too bombastic" [Proceeds to play the most bombastic music known to man]
All, I repeat all, of the villains in this game are great! Buck, Hoyt and of course, Vaas, are incredible. They are just fantastic! I admire who ever made these three villains! Aldrin
Uh, no? His family drove him insane. Jesus christ, did you even listen to what Vaas said ingame? It was his bullshit family who constantly demanded that he choose between friends, work, and family, instead of just letting him be. He eventually lost his shit, and, as he says ingame, "Why does it even have to be a fucking choice!?". His family pissed him off and pushed him away, so he stuck to working for Vaas... which he didn't do all that well.
Syndicate Operative you're half right his family did push him away but it was Hoyt who corrupted him with drugs, money and power. It's kinda like Anakin Skywalker from Star Wars the Jedi council pushed him away by not trusting him and asking him to do things that violated the Jedi code (for good reason but still) but it was Darth Sidious who corrupted him by promising him that he can save his dying wife and give him power that the Jedi cannot.
This will probably be an unpopular opinion, but I actually liked hoyt alot more then vaas. I loved his proper introduction, how he’s quiet friendly and talks about being an understanding boss, and then instantly changes to talking about roasting flesh like chicken if you screw up. I instantly thought “wow now that’s intimidating”. He was terrifying but also extremely charismatic and likeable. If given the option I would’ve happily joined him lol. i was just hoping we got to see more of him
Difference I find between Vaas and Hoyt is that, I was legit upset to kill Vaas, I was crying when I first killed Vaas, and Citra's words drove my emotions even further. Killing Hoyt however was seriously one of the most satisfying moments in my gaming life. It really felt like I won.
Vaas is a heap of shit. No idea why you guys hero-worship him. Hoyt, on the other hand? A proper businessman, truly talented, who had to deal with shit employees who didn't do their job properly (like vaas).
He is not crazy at all, he is possibly one of the few enemies that is not crazy. But it's because he doesn't have the excuse of being crazy that makes him evil!
Hoyt was always such an amazing character, and completely underrated. Every time I play I wish there was a way to be part of his organization and be friends with him.
Way better written, smarter and more intimidating than Vaas imo. Felt really dumb when he asked "How stupid do you think I am?" Hoyt always knew that Foster was Jason but as the ultimate capitalist and businessman he is he never wanted to kill Jason but hire him as his hitman. Very underrated villain and a shame that everybody considers Vaas as the main antagonist of the game and leaves Hoyt out.
I really liked hoyt as a villan. Vaas was truly legendary and will be .y all time favorite. But hoyt was so unsettling and creepy that even Vass listened to him which meant something to me when this game came out
Ehh... no not at all Even if Pagan has some connection back from when he was a Bangkok mobster, he’s on the run now and out of the cartel Besides, there’s no way that someone like Pagan would offer some of his Army to hunt down someone out of Kyrat’s jurisdiction. And Yuma is better at sending men die to find a mythological paradise rather than to help anyone Hoyt is probably referring to any other high ranking members of the Cartel he’s in (we don’t actually know how high Hoyt’s rank goes as a member) But surely if they want to avenge Hoyt and send a message to anyone else that would want to fuck with them, they will probably send a hitman after Jason (not hard to do since they have all of Jason’s and his friend’s ID’s and other information) So the “good happy ending” should actually be called “Living in a constant fear for the rest of days, ending” since
It's a pity that Hoyta is not as popular as Vaas, and the role is so short, and it's also a shame that he wasn't added to DLC FAR CRY 6, I think he’s designed as well as Vaas .
“Cancer won’t be what kills you” that line right there makes me think on the spot Hoyt knew exactly who Jason was. As he says later that he was hoping he’d join his privateers and work for him being the next vass.
That, and/or it being that one simply does not die of cancer while on that island. Lol.

Hoyt's character and voice actor is underrated compared to Vaas.
You gotta stop saying literally and chills.
@@NostalgicGamerRickOShay You didn't pay attention to the cues while playing the game right?

U can also tell when he knows at 11:00 lol:p
Pretty sure he knew from the moment he met him...
Haha hoyt is a master mind!
Brendon Charles
Well yeah, I'm just saying that for the most of that scene, he's pretty composed, but right there, he loses a bit of control.
When I played this game for the first and haven't watch any cut scenes and read any thing about Far Cry 3 @ 4:16 Hoyt knew that you were there and at some point you had to face him.
Hoyt is the only person Vaas fears. You can tell he has him under his control in Willis' basement
@@Catarssis347Vaas never died
I just realized Vaas and Hoyt never speak eye to eye in the game, they only talk twice, once in a recording where you can feel the dismissal in Vaas tone, the other time right at the beginning of the game where Vaas listens, but doesn’t even look at Hoyt
The fact that they only interact twice in the game and you can tell so much about their relationship is amazing.
Maybe the choice to almost never have them in more scenes together is why they’re such great villains
Neither one outshadows the other that way
Hoyt was scaring me too. Especially when he came up close and stared at 5:35.
"It is by MY grace that your head is not impaled on the antenna of my car!" LOL i laughed so hard hearing that line.
I'm probably the only one who likes Hoyt as much as vaas
You're not
They are both awesome.
I might actually like Hoyt MORE than Vaas.
You're definitely not the only one
@@jackmaguire1158
Thank you man.
Hobbies, cooking, painting, movies, crystal meth.
One of these things is not like the other.

Pagan Min?

@FROST yes he is just look what he have done to Jason's friend
he's an excellent villain, crazy in his own way too. the south african accent makes him so much cooler
wait in the 1st scene, it was hoyt calling vaas to "take care of the rejects" that explains how hoyt know jason's face
Literally everyone on the island knows jason's face. Why do you think they know it's "snow white" or "jason brody", and not some random other guy? Hoyt was just playing into it to find out his own rat (sam).
Back when Far Cry villains were great, now we have the twins from New Dawn
Hoyt is such a good actor.

Squirrel Boi which one
@Logan Lennon, hahaha, I loved that. Hoyt just absolutely undermines and trumps the family arc from the first island.
"It is by my grace that your head isn't impaled on the antenna of my car!"
But now, it feels like winning.'
Best line in the entire game. And here I thought Jason was just some spoiled rich kid.
triedge763 I respect your well articulated opinion. Bravo!
"Jason, you can destroy Hoyt. He has foreseen this. It is your destiny. Join me, and together we can rule the Rook Islands as Psycho and Snow White."
Its good to know someone else agrees...
8:24 its implied that Sam failed at looping the feed, hoyt saw everything and from here on out knew who Jason was
Hoyt is literally the most dangerous, the most psychotic and the most underrated villain in the entire franchise
Hoyt was definitely outshined by Vaas but I love his enthusiasm and his pragmatism toward his business. He cuts to the point and I liked that about him
He had a knife in his boot, even though he had a big ass knife strapped to his fucking chest.
What I just love about Hoyt is that he knows how to control Vaas.
Basically, besides being the boss of the privateers, the pirates also work under Hoyt. If Vaas disobeyed Hoyt, he could have ordered both pirates and privateers to hunt down Vaas.

Hoyt is the guy who drove Vaas insane
2bad 4you You may be right..damn
Citra drove Vaas insane.
Hoyt wastes no time with small talk. Like he doesn't say "Very good!" "Now you get it?" like some villains. He's only excited about what excites HIM.
Hoyt was so slept on man. Just overshadowed by Michael Mandos legendary performance of Vaas.
I wonder if Hoyt has diplomatic immunity?
It's just been revoked

This will probably be an unpopular opinion, but I actually liked hoyt alot more then vaas. I instantly thought “wow now that’s intimidating”. He was terrifying but also extremely charismatic and likeable. If given the option I would’ve happily joined him lol. i was just hoping we got to see more of him

Hoyt is without any doubts one of the best villains.
I admit, I kinda feel sorry for the guy Hoyt burned in the furnace. He was just there to make some money.
Hoyt was always such an amazing character, and completely underrated. Every time I play I wish there was a way to be part of his organization and be friends with him.
Why does Hoyt reminds me of Makarow so much?
An anarchist psychopath with a lot of power and influence.
Zeke Jager Because they are both brutal.
Zeke Jager Because they look similar
Makorov is a lot more serious

Way better written, smarter and more intimidating than Vaas imo.

"How stupid do you think I am?"
Hoyt always knew that Foster was Jason but as the ultimate capitalist and businessman he is he never wanted to kill Jason but hire him as his hitman.
Very underrated villain and a shame that everybody considers Vaas as the main antagonist of the game and leaves Hoyt out.
idk why but i never realized Hoyt was at the beginning scene with Vaas and Grant in the cage..
I really liked hoyt as a villan. Vaas was truly legendary and will be .y all time favorite. But hoyt was so unsettling and creepy that even Vass listened to him which meant something to me when this game came out
Hoyt reminds me of Makarov from the modern warfare series. Except with a much more disturbing personality

2:48 I love the way he delivers these lines.

"I have very powerful friends who will hunt you down."
Hmm.....is Hoyt referring to Pagan Min, Paul De Plur, And Yuma? 🤔
No, seeing as how Jason isn't even the protagonist of 4
Ehh... no not at all
Even if Pagan has some connection back from when he was a Bangkok mobster, he’s on the run now and out of the cartel
Besides, there’s no way that someone like Pagan would offer some of his Army to hunt down someone out of Kyrat’s jurisdiction.
And Yuma is better at sending men die to find a mythological paradise rather than to help anyone
Hoyt is probably referring to any other high ranking members of the Cartel he’s in (we don’t actually know how high Hoyt’s rank goes as a member)
But surely if they want to avenge Hoyt and send a message to anyone else that would want to fuck with them, they will probably send a hitman after Jason (not hard to do since they have all of Jason’s and his friend’s ID’s and other information)
So the “good happy ending” should actually be called
“Living in a constant fear for the rest of days, ending” since
Neo2266 Pagan was a Hong Kong mobster not Bangkok

It's a pity that Hoyta is not as popular as Vaas, and the role is so short, and it's also a shame that he wasn't added to DLC FAR CRY 6, I think he’s designed as well as Vaas .
