There's some super helpful information, even for someone who's been working in the field for a decade. Thanks so much for doing this.
@@byWasim Thanks for the kind words. Trying to record a few vids each weekend atm :D
@@TinHouseStudioUK Subscribed! Looking forward to it. Been inhaling ideas and knowledge to keep my mind from turning to mush while we navigate our way through this gotcha, so truly appreciate the time you're putting in!
This is spot on. I've been doing commercial photography a while and would not change a thing in this video. Here is one word to sum up this video: Relationships!
Yes relationships are key. I think I have found that just being you and not trying too hard is the best option.
Opening line genuinely made me chuckle.
It's amazing! It's almost like you're just trying to educate us, not sell to us. (It's appreciated!)
you explained very well Scott, looking forward to see your next video
Thanks Ekin :D
This is the sort of thing that almost all freelancers know but then don't do and wonder why they aren't getting the work they want. But good advice all the same.
Yeah knowing what to do and doing it are two very different things.
Excellent video and thank you for sharing this information Scott.
Thanks Paul
Brilliant as always, thanks for keeping everyone's spirits up!
Thanks Pete. Hopefully there will be something else uploaded soon.

Loving this series Scott. An absolute goldmine of information, warts and all, from someone who has put in the hard yards. Brilliant stuff!!!
Thanks Stewart. Should be getting another big day of filming in next week
Great advice. Just beginning a re-design of my website and realized that I am thinking way too small client-wise after watching this video. Thank you.
thats great to hear Michael. Make sure you share your website with me when it is done
Top content as ever Scott, thank you.
Love the straight talk and its always great to get a refresher from time to time on how to keep pushing forward with this.
Thanks and yeah get cacking :D
Scott - Had some sales training in my past life and your advice here is exactly as what it takes! Persistence with a good attitude towards yourself and everyone else is so important. Thanks for your efforts on this video!
Love this, I use the spreadsheet method too. At some point I want to try using a CRM, to track responses and set reminders to get in touch again. Thanks for your videos :)
Ive looked at getting a CRM, but I am not feeling that the spreadsheet at this stage lets me miss anything.
So far these videos have been fantastic. This one has been really informative, contacting the right businesses as in agency is something I think a lot of us miss. Thanks again Scott.
Massimo Conci Media thanks massimo. Glad you are finding them useful
Thanks again for putting all your time in to post these. So good!
Thank you for sharing !
Really enjoying these videos Scott...thanks for putting in the time to share your ideas.
Thanks troy, should have some more out soon
Great video series - please keep going. In a distant life I did telesales on a magazine - it’s hard and dispiriting but it’s the only way to make those relationships if you’re starting from scratch. But after a while you’ll find you’ve become an expert in the market and you have something to offer - a bit of gossip / market intelligence always goes down well.
Yeah its amazing how quickly everything becomes natural.
Great information, Thanks
Great ideas - I never thought the junior people would be so helpful in finding projects. You are fantastic man
Its amazing how quickly people move up the ranks.
I was working so hard to get the momentum going, and it was just feeling like it was moving along well, now I feel like we are all starting over from scratch. Hopefully it will go well in the weeks ahead.
I feel your pain. I was also on the cusp of something big. But if we could do it before, we can do it again after. Everyone will be in the same boat so don't lose heart
@@TinHouseStudioUK ❤ Thanks
Think we're all feeling the same! Every year has been better than the last, getting better and better, felt I'd be absolutely going to crush it this year.
This video reminded me a lot of a class by Joel Grimes on KelbyOne. He said pretty much the exact same thing, and goes about contacting agencies in a similar way, but it took him over an hour to explain what you did in 14 minutes of talking fast! 😂 One point Joel hammered home is that it often takes multiple contact attempts over many months for someone to remember you. He said that by the 8th call/email/promo etc. the chance of getting somewhere went up dramatically. Joel made the point that persistence often trumps talent/skill. I have to say it sounds like a slog, but I guess that’s just what you have to do if you want to shoot at a high level.
Yeah I think its all about being persistent. I had a decade of being ignored haha
another great tutorial with great emphasis on the thought & work process. Thanks for your unreserved sharing. I learnt something new today that you could actually contact agencies and thats really great to know, is this more of the case for food & portrait or advertising assignments? I shoot architecture and usuallly I would go straight to the marcomm department of the organization.
I think it is true for everything. I know landscape photographers who get work through ad agencies.
with the spreadsheet where you put advertising agencies' would you be able to put a template together for someone that is starting out to use?
I started building the list of agencies and contacts myself but did a bit of research on where to buy these lists and couldn't come up with a good result. any tips? I live in Stockholm if that makes a difference. thanks
I'm thinking local breweries/distilleries, photographing their product, sending them the finished result, and then see how they respond? Because I don't have a decent portfolio yet, but they might like the image and purchase it? Or is that a "no go"?
Perfectly fine to do, but they wont buy the images. I would go and buy beer online and photograph it, then approach them with a portfolio. They you can charge and make them a customer straight up rather than a project
