    Finally a clear video about this test. I like the ramping up method that avoid you from pushing too much too quickly. Thank you

      I agree. I feel like everyone keeps this as a secret.

    Just a heads up, this isn't a "lactate threshold" test. It's a functional threshold power test. Lactate threshold testing involves measuring blood lactate concentrations. The functional methods in your video is one way of broadly estimating a general "threshold", but they're not the same thing. If lactate, gas exchange etc isn't available, a critical power method is far better than that described in the video too - less guesswork, easy to perform in a short space of time and gives you both aerobic and anaerobic data to work with.
    From an FTP point of view, a helpful video though 👍

    can you do this test on a mountain bike?.. cause we got more mountains rather than flats

    • @ChrisLieto
      @ChrisLieto  4 года назад +1

      yes, try and pick a slight incline or steady climb and run the test the same way. avoid any sections that have some downhills where you can rest. Try and maintain steady power the whole time

    I am happy to suffer on a trainer. More focused that way without distractions of out doors.

    Question.... When I first got on the bike and did this test, my max hr was 182, now a year later, my max is 176.. Is it normal to lower your max HR when you get more fit?

    • @ChrisLieto
      @ChrisLieto  3 года назад +1

      Last year when you did the test you were probably less efficient and spiked your hrt rate to a max. When you are fitter and more in tune with a threshold effort you can hold it longer and you won't get a high spike. The goal is in a threshold effort or test is to hold steady wattage that you can hold for that long. And yes as you get fitter you can produce more power or speed at a lower hrt rate. Good Job!

      @@ChrisLieto Thanks man.. I was wondering why I could not attain my old max HR anymore. Im sure getting older factors in. Great channel btw.
