heavymountain ah yes, Dark Empire. I don't care what dudes say, that comic series was fun and interesting. The artwork and coloring makes it stand out amongst almost all Star Wars comics and I'm sucker for superweapons and new technology designs...
One aspect of the aliens ray gun I loved in War of the Worlds is how when the ray sweeps across something it doesn’t INSTANTLY destroy it. A micro second goes by and it’s destroyed, but I love that tiny pause. It makes me think the energy is being instantly compressed and released, it’s so small but such an interested design choice and it makes the scene really stand out in a small way.
In the book the aliens use 'heat rays' (IR lasers? Masers?) so it'd take a moment for it to cook the target. There's loads of scenes that are straight out of the book like the train going past on fire or clothes fluttering down out of the sky.

My brother works with ILM and I remember how in TLJ they actually had to digitally fix Mark Hamill's hunched back. I believe they had to throw out his Mandalorian footage because Mark's unfortunate posture makes for poor reference.
So i just sat through the new "Candyman" 2021. There is a ton of mirror reflection motifs that really play a powerful part in the film. Id like to see how you guys think they pulled it off!!! Keep up the great work boys!
Hamill is right- a certain amount of self-confidence is good (and in this case warranted), but too much can work against you- especially in a corporate structure.
@oeufdufromage yes but since they are also working in the same industry, it might rub off the wrong way to people that mattered to their career the most. and being the good guy, mark advised them not to
@oeufdufromage are you serious? Disneys production pipeline is the most corporate of them all. these guys are like what? friends who made a small amateur company to film youtube shorts? ask yourself how disney pumps out a million films a year all of which have the same general quality. Specifically look at marvel. Theres a structure to these things. Disney have been at it for a long, long time. they know the fundamentals, and if you want to work with them, youre going to follow it. Disney aren’t exactly known to be risk takers.i dont think it’s necessarily a bad thing. You wont get stinkers from modern disney, but you wont get masterpieces of art either. If you want to go big budget with disney, youre following rules. You try to be the special snowflake in their company and be let go so they can pull from a pool thousands of artists wholl give everything for just a shot.
I haven’t seen anybody really hit on the CGI of Narnia- and if you guys have- I missed it. I think that the 3 movies did a spectacular job on the animals in comparison to the new Lion King.
You guys should check out the Adventures of Tin Tin (2011). It’s animated but kinda in the polar express style (but much better). There’s a scene that’s about 5 minutes long called “falcon chase” and it’s all a one shot. It’s one of the most classic examples of how Spielberg directs you through a scene with crazy action but still focusing on character and emotion. It also has some great physics/water simulation
I’m surprised they didn’t talk about the fact when they were fighting in the helmet that when one of them hits the ground dust gets kicked up near the helmet
I'd love to see y'all react to the old Bungie CGI in the Halo games. Especially Halo 3. I want to know what kind of magic went into that lighting engine to make it so good in 2007.

I'm gonna disagree with you guys on one point: I much prefer when you "guess" at the way a shot was done. It's interesting to hear you bounce ideas off each other, show how there's more than one way to skin a cat, etc. Just talking about what a behind the scenes video talks about is boring. Thanks!
Regular viewers know that they always let 2 guys speculate on how it was done, then the third guy gives the "answer" and usually shows us BTS footage. This is no different - in the first video, they tried recreating the scene (with speculation on how it was done), and now this one gives us the answers.
@@wulfrache You don't need to be a VFX expert to know that having the person you're trying to replicate in the first place there in-person as reference is helpful in mimicking their mannerisms.
What the gang said is even though Disney had the actual shot of Mark Hamill in that scene, they replaced those shots completely with another actor and basically deep faked Mark's younger face for the final shot. Which means none of Mark Hamill's actual body cues - like him moving or standing - ended up in the final shot.
@@not_imy You're correct, from the VFX point of view. But what hobbyhands is talking about is the acting aspect. For Max Lloyd-Jones to be able see how Mark Hamill moves and shifts, that's something that is incredibly useful to an actor. So, you're right, there's not a VFX use for Hamill being there. But he's still adding so much to the performance.
I couldn't be arsed changing channels last night and watch The Hunger Games: Catching Fire... Not a movie you went over, but a TV show: His Dark Materials. I'd love to see you go over the CGI for Lee's Balloon and the Air Ships in both season 1 and 2. 😊
I too would enjoy this. Also, one problem with this otherwise-great production was that the CGI budget didn't run to giving everyone in Lyra's world an animal-daemon, so that in the occasional crowd shots, there visibly aren't enough daemons for the number of people. I wondered if CC could come up with a clever but cost-effective way of upping their numbers?
The mentioning of space and helmet reflection make me think of For All Mankind, which is HEAVY on this effect and dealing with things on the moon, would love to see the reactions to that! Some of it looks better than other things, but it's hard to say why, you guys probably can tell us though!
I’d suggest looking back at Death Becomes Her. There’s still a few great special effect scenes and one stunt. There’s the sequence when Streep’s head goes backwards, the ending when she and Goldie Hawn break apart and the stunt where the car screeches backwards and just stops right in front of Hawn.
Could you do Arrival and the swirly alien language stuff? Or how about The Launch Sequence in Apollo 13? Or Gravity! In fact, just a space special would do!!
I'd love to see some breakdowns of scenes that show a long passage of time, but in one shot. I've always loved the scene in Notting Hill when he walks through the market as the seasons change. A lot of other shows and movies have done similar scenes but I've always thought Notting Hill did it best.
More infographics on this react series would be epic! The one where you showed how the projection was put on that chrome ball was cool. More of that would be sick! 🤘🤘🤘
You guys should really do The Expanse. The show has thousands of visual effects and they mostly Al correspond to realistic physics. The build brilliant sets and then augment them with vfx elements. The VFX improve a lot between season one and season five, so you should pick a could from each to compare.
I’ve watched like an episode and a half and gave up because it looked so cheap. How many seasons do I need to watch to actually get to some solid visuals?
Martin Turon I tried watching and giving up on the show 3 times before it stuck for me. By the end of season 1 I was invested, but the first 4-5 episodes were a mission to get through.
Speaking of reflections, how about the Reflection of the Soul Exhibit Scene in John Wick 2. I was just watching it yesterday, and was wondering how they didn't have any cameras in any of the mirrors throughout the whole thing.
I’m not sure if they’ve done this already, but they should react to Scott Sterling. The effect seems pretty simple but it managed to trick lot of people.
I would like to see an episode with you guys about how movie sounds are designed. Like lightsaber sound, Godzilla, an Star Wars spaceship etc. You had visual effect, animations, stunts but not this. Would be great to see an episode.
Ben Burtt used a lot of super interesting techniques for the Star Wars movies, even if you can't get him, someone who could explain sound design properly would know them very well. Also Randy Thom (who did The Incredibles) has written a lot about sound design theory and so makes it easy to break down his work
there are a bunch of FOLEY ARTISTS on youtube who you could pitch this to. Corridor Crew are visual creators. "foley artists" are responsible for making most, if not all the sounds in movies you hear. from footsteps, to doors shutting and other impossible sounds for things that don't actually exist like citidel space ships and star destroyers. sliding doors from star trek is just paper being slid across paper. most of the time, "bone breaks" are merely snapping vegetables like carrots/leaks. let Foley Artists get some credit where they are professionals instead of getting visual creators to explain something they aren't focused on. (chances are, Corridor Crew use a library of premade sounds for their creations.... unless they have a Foley Artist department dedicated to creating thier personal sound effects)
@@swanclipper they are also not stunt actors, and they bring stunt actors to the show, and they do work with sounds its an important part of making movies. so it would be amazing if they could bring sound designers to the show.

I know it doesn’t count as movie stunts but I’d love to see y’all and a stuntman or stuntwoman react to some WWE bumps. Just wanna hear what they think about what those men and women have put their bodies through
Hear, hear! The floor of the stage bounces, so that absorbs quite a bit of it. I'm guessing the collapsible chairs are plastic with some kind of impact-absorbing coating (rubber?), and the sound is added in post-production to make you _think_ the chair is metal when it's actually not. Also, notice how when one wrestler his another inside of the arena stage they stomp their foot at the same point where the blow lands on their opponent-?
@@EVAUnit4A the floor doesn't bounce as much as you think, and it really depends on the region. Mexican rings tend to be harder because luchadors are more about the flips, and they need more stability. The old school WWF rings were basically as hard as concrete. The chairs are 'gimmicked' but are mostly still metal. Also chairshots to the head have mostly been phased out in mainstream wrestling due to concussion issues, with only the occasional blow to the body being used. As any veteran would tell you, "there is no good way to take a chairshot". And yes, there are stomps and leg slaps to sell the impact of a blow, when actually the punch or kick is not making full impact. That does not mean there is no impact (I recently saw a picture of a wrestler who bit off the side of his tongue due to a mistimed kick to the face), and again, it depends on regions. Japanese Strong Style wrestlers hit a lot harder than Western ones, since a lot of them come from legitimate MMA backgrounds, and it's what's popular there.
I'm still blown away and frightened by the War of the Worlds. It looks amazing and every scene is believable. When the aliens are first introduced, I crap myself every single time.
The fact that industry legends are interacting with the crew goes to show how disruptive the digital age has become in Hollywood. Just 10 years ago they'd spit in your direction and not even care. Great work!
Notice that the buildings on the left and right, after the explosions, till van is escaping - are still intact. As you said, and what I knew at premiere of War Of The Worlds - there is so little time, and so much things to do. Still, thats one of the greatest CGI in cinema history.
Spielberg is the king of oner's honestly. HE has so many shots in all of his films that are true oners or stitched together, but almost no one talks about it because he does it so elegantly and it just feels natural to the film.
@@stevenborg102 the point of the oner isn’t just “look I was able to do this shot all in one take”. It’s how the audience reacts to it, so like many things in film, it can be accomplished in multiple ways. Some things would be impossible to shoot as a oner, or two expensive (1917 comes to mind).
You guys should do a vfx mistakes we made episode. Where you go back and talk about your wrong guesses for how shots were done and how they were actually done.

Also please talk about IMAX regarding the new one, it's such a huge difference!
I really really want you guys to look at the stunts and effects from "Last of the Mohicans"!!! I would love to know what Gui thinks about how brutal some of the scenes are. Love what you do, thanks for all your hard work and dedication.
The miniatures in War of the Worlds frankly show why we still need miniatures. CGI miniatures and their physics still suffer from over-detail. Real life is clumpy.
Many thanks to all at Corridor, your content is so rich with knowledge and insight. War of the Worlds, I remember the van scene blowing my mind in theaters. 1917- The ride in the back of the truck.
Please go back to Span and talk about the GOOD cgi. There is some amazing visual effects in there and from memory you only spoke about the bad. Thanks as always for making such amazing content every single week.
Seems like I'm in the minority but I genuinely think their "fixing" of the Luke scene is noticeably worse. So its a bit hard for me not to view this as very self congratulatory when they've bashed things that look better but won't admit how fake theirs looks.
I agree. Corridor Crew are always a bit too self-congratulatory on their deepfakes, especially when there are other channels on RUclips that are better/more experienced at it. Actually it might be cool if they reacted to some of those!
Well they congratulate themselves because they barely put any money into it unlike lucasfilms but hey they are still showing props to the team that did it and congratulating them, they’re showing love and criticism which is good
@@_Antijosh_ You have to remember too that Lucasfilm made the CG Luke nearly a year before Corridor's attempt. Technology changes rapidly in the CG world. The one thing they don't always do the best at is acknowledging that the product they're criticizing is quite possibly the best it could be at that time. If Lucasfilm had to make that shot today, it would look way better simply because of the advancements in programing and technology.
I'm a little surprised that they started with a deepfake and then painted over it for Luke. In my mind, the main problem with deepfakes is that if the underlying skull shape is different, the face doesn't end up aligned correctly, and isn't necessarily perspective-correct. You end up with similar features, but the silhouette and size of the face can be pretty different. If that had been my job, I think my strategy would have been to try and construct a very accurate 3D model of young Luke's head, have Mark Hamill do facial capture to drive the face, then track the CG head onto the stand-in's head, with the original head painted out. You make it as realistic as you can (including your best photorealistic hair sim). Now you have plates with CG young Luke's face, so the skull shape and silhouette are as close as possible, and you can train a model to deepfake *that* CG head back onto the archival footage of young Luke, to fix the subtle issues with the CG that are super difficult to fix by hand. You can then also use your models to get high-fidelity plates for matting out the hair, so you don't have blurry deepfake hair giving the game away.
I think you are sort of describing what they did. Based on the limited clips, they definitely did facial capture with Mark. They basically replaced the stand-in's head by doing so many passes over the deepfake.
Thanks for everything corridor, you’re really inspiring and you always but tons of effort into each vid. Keep up the awesome content and film breakdowns!! 👍
Please, please react to Black Sails. Season 2 finale would be a good one. That show is criminally underrated and I feel like the VFX has also gone unnoticed.

Take a look at his face from the Christmas episode.
@@RoScFan Watch the Star Wars Holiday Special clips with him in it. His hair is cut terribly and his face is buried in makeup to hide all the scars.
They Wampa scene was debunked though by several people, especially since you can see Luke's face *with the scars* before the Wampa attack. They don't use makeup or anything to hide them.
That's actually not true. He only broke his nose. Nothing more. According to himself.
I’d love a revisit of Tintin. There were some incredible shots in that movie. At the moment I’m mostly thinking of the pirate ship stuff. The battle on the high seas, the duel and earlier the ship sailing in the desert!

heavymountain ah yes, Dark Empire.
First seen in the Nausicaa anime, I believe.
In the book the aliens use 'heat rays' (IR lasers? Masers?) so it'd take a moment for it to cook the target. There's loads of scenes that are straight out of the book like the train going past on fire or clothes fluttering down out of the sky.
I like when Niko said "get the original actor to show the new actor how to play them" like Josh Brolin as K in MiB was friggen spot on

The War of The World's remake was so...visceral for me that just watching this breakdown had me shaking. The acting in it was so brilliant, and married to the special effects made it truly terrifying at times.
Honestly, I saw this movie as a child and it really impacted me so much. I loved it and at the same time it kind of spooked me. I still get a bit anxious when I see it just because of the acting and the situation everyone is in, but it's really just a great movie imo
I'm really not a sci-fi fan, so I never could truly understand why I was so unnerved by War of Worlds. I never considered others felt the same. In my highschool years it was the genius of Blair Witch and its superb marketing.
Not something you've done already, but I'd love to see a breakdown of Tim Burton's Charlie and the Chocolate factory. It's got some amazing mix of practical and digital effects. Animatronics, trained animals, a huge amount of oompaloompas, and chocolate which actually looks real.

Hamill is right- a certain amount of self-confidence is good (and in this case warranted), but too much can work against you- especially in a corporate structure.
@oeufdufromage I agree I think it was just clickbait
@oeufdufromage yes but since they are also working in the same industry, it might rub off the wrong way to people that mattered to their career the most.

"i dont know what that word means so im gonna call you dumb"
oh the irony
@oeufdufromage oh, we are using playground rules. not exactly suprised. lack of comprehension skills right? must be tough

He did do something. As how Mark stands, and moves is really important with adding the overall effect of it making the actor look even more like him.

Also, one problem with this otherwise-great production was that the CGI budget didn't run to giving everyone in Lyra's world an animal-daemon, so that in the occasional crowd shots, there visibly aren't enough daemons for the number of people. I’d suggest looking back at Death Becomes Her. There’s still a few great special effect scenes and one stunt.
John Morrison would be a great choice, he has done both action movies and wwe stuff
Do the Children of Men one-shot near the end of the film. You did the car one-shot, but the other one near the end is even more impressive IMO

Couldn't agree more. I actually feel this could apply to most of their "we did it better" videos.
Well they congratulate themselves because they barely put any money into it unlike lucasfilms but hey they are still showing props to the team that did it and congratulating them, they’re showing love and criticism which is good
@@_Antijosh_ do you know how much money or time either spent? Or are you assuming that artists have any time to work or are paid less than shit lol
