My mom and dad were farmers in Northern Vermont USA and had to move to Connecticut after the barn burned down due to a fire in the milking equipment. I would have loved to live on a farm again. I was hoping they clean the gunk out of her nose too but I know that the abscesses were a much more pressing issue then a clean nose lol thank you for taking care of this beautiful cow and treating her with kindness
This is one sweet tempered cow. Such a darling. And he keeps patting her, which looks as though he appreciates her sweet nature as well! Glad that both abcesses were drained and that she'll be better soon.

I live in Vancouver, Washington State across the bridge from Portland, Oregon. Spring has sprung here and it's beautiful to watch everything that looked dead come back to life. You guys are welcome to move to Washington or Oregon if you ever get tired of the weather in Minnesota. We don't get nearly the amount of rain everybody says.

I watch a lot of this kind of videos, and most don’t put fluid Betadine wash in the Abscess and flush it out. I Believe you are doing a great job helping these animals. I pay attention to all the Vets I watch. In my words you are the best. 😀
The metal halter might be uncomfortable but they are in it for a short time, and they are busy thinking about that rather than what you are doing while also restricting them from moving which keeps you and them safe while you fix em up. I am interested to know what these complainers would use instead and if they have ever handled animals this big and powerful when they are sick or injured. Because I know from personal experience, an injured animal these guys size, tends to not want to be messed with and will fight you to get the heck away. So yeah this tool for this short time is necessary and is humane. Never stop sharing your wisdom Doc, I am learning so much that is helpful to my animals, I just wish people that have no clue would keep their opinions to themselves.

Aussies living in other countries always makes me think to myself, why go so far away from home to be a farmer when there is just as much land here in Australia to farm. It may well be our, lack of constant rain and regulatory fall of it, in any given year? Its good to see the cow 🐄 getting some relief.

Have you seen the movie Wolf creek if so let me assure you there's 100% places like that in the Queensland outback. Where you are so remote not a living soul will ever hear your screams. So don't ever as a tourist go bush in Australia without a local who knows the place or you might just end up a statistic. Ps our farmers are hard arsed 100% tuff bastards.

So, anytime I was helping the Vet with my Morgan Horse with a procedure and needed to calm the horse. would anchor 2 halter lines to each side of the Hallway & take 2ft. of weed wacker line and press it with a good amount of pressure across his upper high gum/teeth line. I think there are less flies because this is Australia. They have to have a lot more land for cows to graze as the grass gets scorched. Since more land to graze manure is more spread out then here in the states. Just an idea, I'm not an expert.

He has sideswiped a couple of heavy plastic planters and shattered them without batting an eye. May of May not have nailed a few parked cars too but Incase the owners are looking for payment I can confirm the impacts. He’s a nut but I love him.

Correct Tom, there is literally nowhere to put the local as the abscess is directly under the skin. Luckily, distention numbs the skin a fair bit too. Cheers!
When people create noise re metal head halters , no LA or don’t hurt the animal you know we’ve lost touch with the real side of farming . Large animal vets , good LAV , are damned hard to find so having one so good who isn’t anxious about showing real technique or it offending people is just really doing his job . I’ll even let the adverts run !!! He’s fast , thorough and you can tell he knows the end result will be good .
Hydrogen peroxide is impressive visually, but not great as an antiseptic we were taught. Betadyne is relatively nonirritating. We are mostly trying to dilute the pus to allow healing without irritating the tissue overly facilitating healing. Cheers!
What causes these abcesses? As I see other videos where they get it at rear hind as well as round their neck and throat, sometimes the amount of puss released is loads.. I'm just interested how they start.. tha ks for the video
The abscess material is directly under the skin (where you would normally try to infuse anesthetic). Simple quick lance and drainage is the best treatment as anesthetic would both be ineffective and unnecessary, but cheers for asking!

You need to watch “I love Herefords, I dislike flies, I hate cancer” the flies here are orders of magnitude worse than the US sometimes!
I dont know whether cows bite but one reason to restrain its head is not to find out.
They don’t bite, but if u get hit with that head it can really do some hurtin damage to you.
They don't bite but will butt you with the head, stand on your foot or run over you trying to get by

I thought antibiotics were only meant to be given in 10cc per spot. That syringe had way more than 10cc in.

The big ones are often old hematomas... these could be from prickles whilst she is eating I reckon. Their skin is so thick... makes mega zits!
“Tiny” in cows is relative...
Too much popcorn at the movies. Those kernels can really get stuck between your molars.
