A classic tv video of Black Oak Arkansas doing "Fistful Of Love" live. Jim and Ruby have some fun together here. The public seen them like Li'l Abner and Daisy Mae come to life. This was one of several songs they performed on the show that night. And of course The Godfather of Soul himself introduces the band. It don't get no better than that.
Wow what a load of funk ! Great presentation . For it's time the pan shoot to the audience seems baffled . But it was the mid 70's when disco was storming the charts and shows . In general I have fallen back into the classic local mid -states band with admiration !
What we are hearing and seeing here is so beyond the ability of words to signify exactly what it is it’s best to keep silence and allow the minds thoughts to melt into infinite bliss
Sorry to hear that Ruby had passed away among others big female stars like JJoplin....Her particular voice, great boody and hair can not go unnoticed definitely.....!!! What a curly girl artist indeed !!!
RUBY STAR was a "star" that went dim way too soon. Saw her many, many times 30 years ago when she was traveling with "Grey-Star". Loved her & miss her voice.
Saw Boa, Montrose, JoJo Gunn @ Sunkin Gardens in San Antonio back in 1973..outside stage & they all rocked it. Back in highschool days & with mom & grandma too . Dad also.
Balls Of Fire was a great sounding BOA LP. Tommy Aldridge's drumming was recorded great. Perhaps it and Race With The Devil (Capricorn!) are among my favorites. This is a great performance by the band. Tommy played on one of Ruby's solo LPs. Black Oak Arkansas were a unique band to say the least!
Thanks a lot indeed matt9582, I´ve been looking for this tune since years ago....Ruby Starr & BOA together with Mr Dandy included.....great performance...This is what I call real rock & roll (Pure Southern Style) actually.....Glad to know there are still people who have real good enough knowledge of both 70´s and 80,s stuff...Thank you again !!!
I never saw, or heard Ruby Starr till now,...i miss her already!!!😢😢...what a classic beautiful woman. And also the great Tommy Aldridge on drums. Wow.
Great sound on this old video... Don't know how you got it to sound so good, but keep up the good work. Btw... Old time BOA/Ruby Starr fan here. Saw em live several times in the 70s. Thanks for posting.
It’s amazing how the early 70s crowds just watched these bands like Brandy you’re a fine girl what a good wife you would be such a fine girl and the crowd just trying to hang out then a band came out name kiss for years later and showed what rock ‘n’ roll fashion and show an explosion and entertainment was all about everybody else just watched him play in class because they finish the song
My sister turned me on to BOA way back in the '70's. The first time I heard Jim Dandy's voice I thought of the Bugs Bunny cartoon "Hillbilly Hare" and the scene where the two hillbillies are looking for Bugs and one says to to the other "that there rabbit critter's bound to be around here somewhere on accounta I sees his footyprints".
boa are legit superstars , jim dandy is an awesome vocalist and performer and the bands sound is unique , all the negative shit people post on these videos is just that negative shit
buy the BOA boxset....£10 for 5 CDs of which 4 are absolutely fantastic - so much better than you'd imagine.....tight band, great guitar, madcap vocals and so many varied styles....nothing like other Southern bands at all
Damian Crudden ... I will agree Street Party wasn't their best but 'If an Angel came to live with you, would you make Her feel at Home?' is one of my favorites... Rather be Sailing and parts of 'Race with the Devil' would be my guess
violent shemp - perhaps David Lee Roth? I'm seeing a lot of similarities. Creepy? Yes, but I like this. Never really knew enough about this band and Ruby's voice is almost as, if not stronger, than Janis Joplin. Just saying.
ck out Ruby singing Secrets of the Heart! I just found this vid yesterday 2-09-10 Tuesday even though it says was it posted by Carence on myspace vids 1-6-09! type Ruby Starr Band - Secrets of the Heart - Brat Stop into Google to find it!
RIP Ruby. I fell in love with her when I was 14. She was better than good. Wish we all could go back to the Seventies. Best Decade to be a teenager.
Jim Dandy was blessed to have had Ruby Star in his band.
His Lil fuck buddy
Black Oak Arkansas the movie should happen! Their tale is so unique & their talent and sound opened the doors for so many artists.
RUBY STARR WAS A LEGEND- I was so lucky to have seen her with the band
why wasn't Ruby Starr a bigger star? What a voice & stage presence, RIP Ruby.
Yes absolutely!
Died young if she'd have lived longer she would have been a bigger star
She was awesome as a singer and entertainer.
One of the great, unjustly forgotten, bands of the 70's...
saw them in jax fl back in the mid 70's and i promise i will never forget it.... the little bit i could rememeber the next day anyway!!!
Ruby star should be recognise big time and inducted into the rock in roll walk of fame . What a great entertainer singer .
The great Ruby Starr from my hometown Toledo. What stage presence and talent!

This song really shows how good Ruby really was! Song sound and was pretty avant-garde for the times .. I like A LOT!❤
Fantastico, tenia 16 años cuando los miraba y escuche, lo mejor, buenos recuerdos y buena musica
R.I.P. RUBY STARR AND JANICE JOPLIN..................MISS AND LOVE YA BOTH. BLACK OAK IS STILL JAMMIN.
So you love and miss JANIS Joplin, yet you can't even spell her name correctly.
You just don't get performers like this anymore - in the North of England you're not going to see this but thank the Lord for RUclips x
I never saw, or heard Ruby Starr till now,...i miss her already!!!😢😢...what a classic beautiful woman. And also the great Tommy Aldridge on drums. Wow.

Maravillosa RUBY STARR!!
Ruby Rocks.
Ruby is 26-27 years old here but she shows 2 decades of stage presence already,
Two great voices together
What a fantastic recording and mix!

Excellent performance.
I miss you Miss RUBY STARR!
It worked! God you're easy to lure - your predictability always ceases to amaze me.
JIM.....YOU ARE THE KING......DAVID LEE ROTH AIN'T GOT SHIT ON YOU......JIM AND RUBY ROCK ....GREATEST DUET EVER
Great sound on this old video... Don't know how you got it to sound so good, but keep up the good work.
Btw... Old time BOA/Ruby Starr fan here. Saw em live several times in the 70s. Thanks for posting.
Jim Dandy is who David Lee Roth modeled his onstage persona on.
Quite possible.I had always heard that Roth patterned his style a lot from Tommy Bolin(late guitarist of James Gang and Deep Purple fame).
Keara Nelson Tommy Bolin - T Rex
seattwa ...Marc Bolan - R.Rex
Keara Nelson ... DLR admitted he fashioned his stage presence after Jim Dandy in Rolling Stone...
+william white True. Jim Dandy to the rescue!

Damn catchy song!!!!!
buy the BOA boxset....£10 for 5 CDs of which 4 are absolutely fantastic - so much better than you'd imagine.....tight band, great guitar, madcap vocals and so many varied styles....nothing like other Southern bands at all
Which one sucks, though? My bet is on 'If An Angel'; 'Street Party' is mostly rubbish too.
Damian Crudden ... I will agree Street Party wasn't their best but 'If an Angel came to live with you, would you make Her feel at Home?' is one of my favorites... Rather be Sailing and parts of 'Race with the Devil' would be my guess
Race with the devil probably is the inspiration for the title of Runnin with the devil
nobody was ever creepier than jim, EVER
violent shemp - perhaps David Lee Roth? I'm seeing a lot of similarities. Creepy? Yes, but I like this. Never really knew enough about this band and Ruby's voice is almost as, if not stronger, than Janis Joplin. Just saying.
The guy looks possessed.
Ruby was a perfect match for the band
If this don't make you smile what will?
It was so funny yet it was excelent groven music, it evoked emotion, He cracks me up but he's so cool, good song, Ruby Star was a great singer too
LOVE IT!
❤Ruby Starr❤
So good 😮
Hey, on you tube type in Mass Transit-Ruby Starr (1976) you will find it......Ruby did this solo off the album Scene Stealer.........Good listening

Really a very good band...
i was a little boy and played this, my parents just went, WHAT THE HELL !
I miss you Susie
lived in Toledo Ohio for over 45 years and never knew she was from Toledo
Well this is borderline disco LOL 🎤🎼🎼🍒😜
LOL pretty much everything was back then... even Steely Dan and the Grateful Dead dabbled in disco beats!
Holy smoke!
ms Ruby pased away from lung & brain caner some time back She wasin Vegasdoing shows there In her final years with us she preformed as \Henreteta Khan
Philbert Desanex
Trump is a chump that speaks from his rump
She went home to family in Ohio and passed away there.
Ruby's voice is so much nicer to hear than Jim's. She should have been the lead singer. IMO
Strange but interesting band.
Ruby star can whip up some fine Biscuits and gravy, and other things.
Now I know where Stevie Nicks got her style and looks from.
ck out Ruby singing Secrets of the Heart! I just found this vid yesterday 2-09-10 Tuesday even though it says was it posted by Carence on myspace vids 1-6-09! type Ruby Starr Band - Secrets of the Heart - Brat Stop into Google to find it!
might of been but it suited here an looked damn good
TRES Cool/Heavy
Is that Tommy Aldridge of Whitesnake/Ozzy Ozbourne on drums?? Lol
Yep Aldridge played with all the greats... Black Oak, uncle ted nugent, Ozzy & David Coverdale
Jimmy Henderson eventually went back to Mississippi and owned a recording studio. He's a preacher now, or so I'm told.
James Lenahan i
No, the blonde guitarist isn't Reynolds -- it's Jimmy Henderson.
naughty naughty song :D
The neck-nuzzle at 1:26 .... so sexy. Hot ... such an entertaining band.
The one good song this group had, but it is a GOOD one.
Does anyone remember who was the blonde guitarist to the left? I can't remember his name.
RUBY IS THE BEST...........JANICE JOPLIN AND STEVIE NICKS ARE BAD ASS TO.......EVERYONE LOVED HER AND BLACK OAK ARKANSAS
