In my opinion Porcupine Tree is the premier progressive rock band of modern times. Band members are all virtuosos and leader/vocalist/guitarist/composer Steven Wilson is a bona fide musical genius. Wilson is also a renowned studio engineer who has remixed classic albums from Yes, King Crimson, Jethro Tull, Rush, Gentle Giant, and many others. Drummer Gavin Harrison is the best in the business (Neil Peart was a big fan of Gavin's). Like Nightwish, Porcupine Tree is best seen live! (I would highly recommend Anesthetize and Hate Song from their Tilburg 2008 show)
More like it Daniel!!!!!! Fanfriggintastic group these boys! huge rabbit hole Trains, Blackest Eyes, Anesthetize, Start of Something Beautiful, Fear of a Blank Planet, Dignity many more!!
Congratulations brother, you just listened to one of the most beautiful songs from the last 20 years. Welcome to the modern prog rock scene, it's a neverending rabbit hole.
Dude, I am a Porcupine Tree crazy fan, and I cannot tell you how happy I am for you that listened to this!!! If you're willing to go down the Rabbit Hole, you will not stop! If you're interested in next steps, you NEED to listen to their song Anesthetize. It's a long 17 minute eargasm. You should do the LIve version of Anesthetize filmed in Tilburg, but interestingly about this song, Alex Lifeson of Rush ASKED Steven Wilson (the founder of Porcupine Tree) if he could do the solo for that song. And so he did. This particular song came out on their 2007 album - Fear of a Blank Planet. Speaking of which, the band toured (after a 10 year hiatus) in Fall of 2022 and they filmed it! You really should listen to the live version of the song Fear of a Blank Planet from that recent 2022 tour, along with another song from that tour called "Harridan". But here's a list of other "bangers" by them: Bonnie the Cat, Open Car, Blackest Eyes, Shallow, Halo, Anesthetize, Mother and Child Divided (Live from Chicago - 2005). That's a good starter list, but I'm just telling you, every song is a gem! Happy indoctrination into Porcupine Tree!!!
What a fabulous thing to wake up to this morning. I got so nervous given how long it’s been that it might be an anti climax for you. So glad and relieved that you liked it. Hope enough people are open to checking it out to make the band work for the channel. Some people struggle with the longer songs but for me those bands that take you away from the normal headspace for a while are priceless. Yes there’s is a brilliant live version of this track from a 2005 gig in Chicago or you could check out ‘Anesthetise’ Live from the Tilburg gig 2008 which is generally thought of as another magnum opus by them. They came back with a new album at the end of 2022 and toured all last year after a 13year hiatus (whilst the main writer Steven Wilson focused on his very successful solo career- another rabbit hole) and they have lost none of their brilliance. Hope that you can slot in some more into the rotation and would be happy to provide you with a guide but others have already thrown up some good options (although ‘Bonnie the cat’ is a maybe a more niche track??) Generally studio is amazing but live is even better. Thanks for giving it a shot and sorry to keep hassling you.
Only one slight "disagreement" with scifi's comment, the word between "Chicago" and "you" in the 4th line of his comment should be AND not OR lol. Although perhaps a 2nd disagreement - the word "could" should be changed to "MUST!" Arias - offically welcome to I believe probably the greatest live band in the world and to Steven Wilson, THE musical genius still active in the music world today. This is not a rabbit hole you have entered, this is a black hole into another musicverse. Strap yourself in.
This came out in 2005? Its 19 years old but ive never heard of this band. I loved the harmonizing at first then it went into those metal riffs. This was great. Id like to hear more.

I’ve been into this uniquely talented group since 2001 when I first heard the song “ Dark Matter “ off their Signify album. I love Progressive Rock like this. More of that Daniel! I might even introduce You to a local band from my hometown (Gävle, Sweden) that have followers like Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater) and have released 8 full-length records and are just reunited and are in the progress of recording the 9th album. They are Beardfish.
Can strongly recommend any live performance, esp. those from Tilburg - pure awesome! However, one track suggest stick with studio - Trains. Compulsary listening; very different, just as big an impact. Well. You seem to have discovered progressive rock there! Have fun!
OH MAN...... YOU GOT TO PORCUPINE TREE.... BELIEVE ME.... You HAVE to listen to the LIVE version... THEY CAN DO IT.... AND IT IS SUPERB..!! ANY OF THEIRE SONGS ARE JUST THAT LITTLE BIT BETTER LIVE... The singer / Songwriter is a sonic master.
If you love atmospheric music and haven’t tried them yet, I would very, very highly recommend Sigur Ros from Iceland. I suggest you start with a collaboration with singer Steindór Andersen for the song "Á Ferð Til Breiðafjarðar Vorið". To get the best performance, look for “Sigur Ros Heima Disc 2 Á Ferð Til Breiðafjarðar Vorið 1922 with Steindór Andersen” You’ll thank me later 😉
I generally like the studio version when introducing people to bands, but Porcupine Tree is even better live, even if you haven't heard them before. Second the suggestions for the Tillburg show.
What is this about? Maybe a joke?? Because I can't believe you haven't heard one of the best progressive rock bands to hit the scene in the last 30 years..especially since drummer Gavin Harrison is currently one of the best living drummers in the world and Steven Wilson is one of the strongest composers out there today. ..unbelievable!
One f the best live bands to see!....A must see!...The sound is as good as their albums! ......Looking forward to see more!....Subscribed!
THE LIVE VERSION IS EVEN BETTER.

They are great live, check out Anesthetize, Sleep Together, Normal, Cheating the Polygraph. All live for those tracks. The drummer is unreal
And ‘Hatesong’ of course where Gavin is astonishing particularly in the live version.
Nil Recurring (the b-side of Fear of Blank Planet) has 4 awesome songs, even though they are sometimes overlooked.
PLEASE watch the live version. The vibe hits WAY HARDER

I love Bonnie the Cat, but I agree, it might not be quite as representative of the band as other songs. But man, I love the drums and baseline!

I always get emotional watching someone discover this gem of a band. Welcome.
A GREAT rabbit hole to venture down
Thanks Daniel. Gavin Harrison is drummer goals for me!
I was impressed when you looked disappointed that this 11 minute song ended too soon.
I need to listen to more of them.
Yes Sky Wolf and I think U won’t regret it either?

Dark Matter live version is spectacular!
I wish I could hear this song for the first time again
Gavin Harrison, Amazing Drummer
They’re a good band but this has always been my favourite Porcupine Tree song by far.
Loved seeing your reaction to it.
You need to check Anesthetize live in Tilburg
I was extremely depressed teenager when I heard them for the first time. it kind of hits different in that frame of mind ngl
especially like around the 2:00 ish minute range
Welcome to the huge rabbit hole of Steven Wilson!

It's worth mentioning that solo near the end of the song is played by M. Akerfeldt from Opeth
Indeed it is - and great solo it is, but I believe John Wesleys interpretation of it on the live version takes it to another level again.
Anesthetize live pleaseeeeee
Well Arias it appears U and many of your listener’s need to explore more of PT songs and their Big Rabbit Hole or Catalog ?
Whenever U get chance please try this same song live version from The Park West in Chicago in 2005!
It's Fantastic!!!
It will just show and prove how good this PT band really is Comparing Any Studio song to theirs to Any Live Versions!
Loved your reaction. More porcupine tree please.
I recommend reacting to their song 'Russia on Ice' live or studio.... both good.
If this is your first PT song…. man you’ve got a lot to catch up with!
Congratulations discovering this band!
Love your response!
If you even have the chance to see them (or Steven Wilson and his solo band) live, do it!
(By the way I’m 67 and huge fan of PT and Steven Wilson)
I love watching people react to porcupine tree for the first time. Their reaction always has some elements that mine did....

Not the biggest PT fan but Start od something beautiful is a must, Daniel! Either the normal live video or The visual live film (better audio).
Start of Something Beautiful is one of my fav PT songs!
The song's already finished, after only ... wait? 12 mins?
It's a long song, and I never want it to end.

Try same band, ”anaesthetize” live from Tilburg. A must!
nice one! but bonnie the cat is my fav track by porcupine tree. fantastic drumming and the video is top!
have you tried spiritbox - constaance?
live in tilburg is an awesome watch
i just looked through your page and this is legitimately the first thing you've reacted to that I have heard before. Am I old now?
You're providing me with more rabbit holes than I can handle at present!
You got to listen to Radioactive Toy.
Rabbit hole activated… you just got a new sub brother….do way out of here live
Live. Live. Live. Always PT Live. Pick anything.
Live versions when available...always
Lots of great recommendations here but I didn't see anyone mention Open Car!
YES!!! Anesthetized live in Tilburg!!
If you love atmospheric music and haven’t tried them yet, I would very, very highly recommend Sigur Ros from Iceland. I suggest you start with a collaboration with singer Steindór Andersen for the song "Á Ferð Til Breiðafjarðar Vorið".
To get the best performance, look for “Sigur Ros Heima Disc 2 Á Ferð Til Breiðafjarðar Vorið 1922 with Steindór Andersen”
You’ll thank me later 😉
Hatesong live version!
"There's no way it's over". No, you are just being set up for the finale.
Anesthetize (live from tilburg)
I generally like the studio version when introducing people to bands, but Porcupine Tree is even better live, even if you haven't heard them before. Second the suggestions for the Tillburg show.
What is this about? Maybe a joke?? Because I can't believe you haven't heard one of the best progressive rock bands to hit the scene in the last 30 years..especially since drummer Gavin Harrison is currently one of the best living drummers in the world and Steven Wilson is one of the strongest composers out there today. ..unbelievable!
👍🇫🇮😎
John wesley sorely missed😟
What is Porcupine tree? well, it's Arriving somewhere but not here.
