    I'm going to paraphrase Sean Woodland's quote: "You have no idea how crazy strong you have to be mentally to even _suck_ at the CrossFit Games."

    And the unknown. If you're doing biking, you know what you have to be good at. There is just so much uncertainty in CrossFit.

    CrossFit is very difficult and pretty unique. It’s accessible to literally anyone if you modify it, but the learning curve is steep and it only gets more difficult. For most sports, training is the grind-you train hard so the game isn’t as hard. In CrossFit the game IS the training.
    Is it the hardest sport though? I don’t know. MMA literally has another person trying to tear your head off for 5 minutes at a time. Hockey has super high anaerobic bursts while trying to maintain balance and leverage on knives, while using a stick to protect yourself, and the puck, while guys are trying to tear your head off. The amount of pure balls and technical skill somethjng like skateboarding takes at the highest level of off the charts. It’s all super respectable, and subjective. But yeah, CrossFit is hard as fuck.

    What about boxing or MMA? It’s tough training. Food restricting. And after all of that you literally have to fight someone.

    Rowing has to be the toughest sport physically. Ask mat himself he always says the thing he never wants to pb again is a 2km row because it’s so painful a distance and a machine. Imagine that being the only focus is to row for 2km as fast as possible……

    I can’t say CrossFit is harder than any contact sport (football, rugby, hockey, boxing, etc)
    And I’ve done CF since 2013, coaching it since 2015

    Mat Fraser is absolutely correct on this one, the training for other sports does not hurt; however, football requires a type of toughness and fearlessness that does not exist in CrossFit. Wrestling is the only sport I know in which the two types of “hurt” are combined. Rugby, too.

    Hard to compare the toughness of skill sports and fitness/contact sports. Apples and oranges. Also professional cycling is outrageously hard

    I love how people here assume other sports training doesn't hurt! Majority of sports at the highest level require your level fitness to be extremely amazing! I'm sure NHL and NBA players will say " Crossfit you peak for a 3 week event. Try 82 games, playing every other night, them fitting in weigjt training and working on your weaknesses, not to mention the back to backs, flying to different times zones, weather etc...I'd live for Josh to line up as a runnjng back and Lawrence Taylor or Ray Lewis is looking to take tour head off. Tell me how much that doesn't hurt. Just have respect for the other sports. If I was judging crossfit and how much it hurt or how difficult it was based on 99.9% of the people who do it, I'd say it's easy and doesn't hurt as well!!! Every crossfit box I've been to, there maybe 2 or 3 people who work hard, other than that the weights are light AF, they don't ever do a true AMRAP, So I'd think it was a joke! Not to mention every one of these dudes are juicing but try to pretend they're high-and-mighty and don't do it but s*** on the people who got caught! I just can't stand more people s*** on other Athlete's sports of choice without ever doing it at the highest level and then s*** it on it! Like I said if I judge crossfit based on 99.9% of the people I see do it I would say to joke too.

    With all respect to CrossFit athletes and what the put themselves through to be good, but I would say Ironman or marathon running is the toughest sport. The amount of volume that those athletes have to go through is tougher than CrossFit in my opinion. Sure they don't have to worry about strength so much, but endurance athletes push themselves to the limits just to be seconds faster.

    • @amy5127
      @amy5127 3 года назад +3

      CrossFitters have to worry about strength and endurance. To be seconds faster and lift 1lb heavier.

    • @CompleteCommando
      @CompleteCommando 3 года назад +5

      Crossfit is harder because of the amount of disciplines you have to be good at.
      Yes the volume of a tour de france biker is insane and probably unrivalled but they don’t have to put 140kg plus above their head, then an hour later do 20 legless rope climbs, 80 thrusters, handstand walk 80m then 40 muscle ups… for an example.

      @@amy5127 In my opinion, there will be a plateau as to how fast a crossfit athlete can run and how heavy he or she can lift. The body types won't hold up for competitive endurance sports.

      @@CompleteCommando CrossFit events are usually intense, but short compared to any endurance sport. Could a crossfitter complete a full iron man or a 70.3? Of course, but could they be in the top 40 of all iron man athletes, probably not.

      @moto67e 3 года назад

      @@JoshBridges I understand what. you're saying. But professional crossfit vs professional motocross/supercross is what I was talking about. There isn't a high risk of death or major injury from crossfit. Motocross/Supercross also has 29 big races a year from January to September. The Games is only one weekend. I love both sports and both take tons of skill and hard work to succeed and the top level, but the risk factor of motocross puts it over the top for me.

    • @ryanunderwood6827

      @@JoshBridges I would say wrestling still beats out CrossFit.
      The games are point based so it’s possible to not place first in an event, and still win the games. You have to win the match to keep going in a tournament (round robins excepted) in wrestling.
      To Mat’s point about technique. Practicing a single leg without a partner still requires body weight squat, lunge, and rotation. Fireman’s carries, etc. are all load bearing movements of around your approximate bodyweight.
      Pacing as well. CF you can adjust your pacing to suit the need of the event to your strengths. Faster double unders to allow a sustainable pace on the barbell, etc. Wrestling you have to always meet or exceed the pacing and strength of the other competitor.
      I would say time domains are the biggest difference here and that’s the one area where CF will be more tough.
      I love both sports, but If you’re asking me to go against Mat or Kyle Dake. I’d rather compete against Mat.
