As a 60 year old male athlete, I liked Yoshi as Phillip the best. He was the 2nd best character on the show. I was extremely disappointed upon his departure & he took a large part of the show with him. I really wished he could've worked something out for the good of humanity. He was affecting people worldwide.
That's was intentional in Dallas' writing & seems as though Yoshi didn't want to go to blending in, even though that's what Dallas, the Writer & Producer believes is best for the show & he is very gifted at what he does!
The Yoshi portrayal of Philip was far more "Biblical" than the actor portraying Thomas. All that focus on Thomas and his non-existent "fiancee" is way outside of the Bible narrative. Now we no longer have a "Biblical" Philip and we have a broken and devastated Thomas nowhere near the Bible's Thomas.
I loved Yoshi. He had more maturity than the other disciples from his years with John the Baptist. He was kind to Matthew which surprised the other disciples. I looked for him in every shot. That sweet living face. His character was different than Jesus and always would be. I saw the change when he hurt his toe and was negative. Ir was as if the writers took away his time with John and made him like the other disciples. It was wrong and I was disappointed disappointed
Yoshi had an energy vibe that no one can copy. The new guy just doesn't have that special kind of vibe that portrays the character of Philip that was introduced. His character has totally changed.
When I didn't see Phillip I started to pray for Yoshi and Dallas. I knew something was wrong. I will always love Jesus. Jonathon does such a wonderful portrayal, never done before. I feel the presence of the Holy Spirit when he is on screen. Phillip brought a calming presence among the constantly arguing disciples (I love everyone of them). I will miss Phillip's sweet, joyful face.
Yeah he was a peacemaker. And that was beautiful. I don’t know why on Earth they decided to make him like a little bit dumber and not interesting. I am really sad that he is not on the show, but I guess that was for Yosshi the only right to do
Yoshi portrayal of Philip, I would suspect was very accurate. He brought the character to life with experience and wisdom that the other disciples needed. Since he left the show it seems as though Philip character has been pulled into the background. There isn’t much that has been put forward on the Chosen for me to determine if the new actor is bringing Phillip to life. I was very disappointed that Yoshi had left the Chosen.
Yes. Truly miss Joshi. I loved his sharing with Matthew - so it was beautiful to see how Matthew was really encouraged by the warm acceptance of Joshi. Also I really loved Joshi’s time with Nathanael and the “Come and See” statement and the beautiful response of Joshi when Nathanael met Jesus and was instantly drawn to Jesus. Simply a wonderful scene! ❤ One of the best in all the episodes!
I Ioved Yoshi's portrayal of Phillip. You could tell that his character was a true believer of what he learned as he took up with John, and transitioned that to his following of Jesus. The new direction seems to push Phillip more to the back of the pack.
I loved Yoshi as Philip when he first came onset he had an element about him, none of Jesus followers had. He was tremendous in the “monologues that recked us”. I wish him well in his career and his life. We love you,Yoshi.✝️
Honestly, I think it is immature to bail out because you don't like the direction the creator of the show takes your character. Did he honestly think that Phillip would remain a doubter? He had a crisis of faith when they failed at their mission. Mary had a crisis of faith. Simon had a crisis of faith. I liked his portrayal of Phillip, and his leaving is sad, but the reason given is rather thin. I am glad that things were kept civil. By the way, it doesn't sound like he was fired. It sounds like they had creative differences that could not be resolved to his liking, so he left the series. No real need for extra drama.
Yoshi should not have left! He was awesome on the show. Philip having doubts kinda makes sense since John was so "in your face" and Jesus is more calm and laid back in comparison... It would have made the show that much better to keep Yoshi.
I haven't seen the script give Reza a chance to prove that he is Philip...he(Reza) has been mostly quiet. Kinda odd seeing as Yoshi was such a prominent character.
Glad to finally get the reason. It makes sense to me. I did notice his character was different in season 3, and I personally didn’t like that change, but figured it was to highlight Andrew’s change, who was a lot more calm after the sermon on the mount. I thought ultimately it would lead to the two eventually meeting in the middle after John’s death.
True. Reza actually has the look of the men of the Middle East something amazingly! He'll be fine. We all liked Yoshi. You hate to see this happen. We'll be okay. I went to school with several Iranians, Syrians, Pakistani, and people from Iraq. The new actor has got them down. Dallas Jenkins runs a tight ship. I feel the horror of losing Yoshi too. We all do. The series will be fine though. The new guy will continue to do his very best.
I appreciate this video for actually clarifying the creative differences Yoshi hinted at. I'm glad there wasn't animosity between him and the team of the Chosen.
I truly enjoyed Yoshi's portrayal of Phillip in the Seasons 2-3 of The Chosen, and agree with many that Reza has yet to find "his take" on the character. That being said, having been a Christian for many years I wonder if Yoshi was not a bit prideful in leaving the show over "creative differences". While the Lord does want His people to have and be confident, yet He will always put us in seasons of pruning to root out the pride that we all still struggle with. IMO it would have been a powerful portrayal of pruning and new growth in the Lord through the character of Phillip if Yoshi and Dallas could have come to a shared vision of the character. Probably Dallas could have done something more to encourage Yoshi to stay but in the end Dallas is, as they say, "the boss". Sadly we won't get that particular story.
I loved Yoshi, will still keep an open mind about the new actor, hopefully he will bloom into the character that was apparently being developed as Yoshi was heading into. Look forward to both actors in future episodes and films.
I STILL MISS THE PRESENCE OF YOSHI IN THE CHOSEN. Really don’t care for Rezi. I don’t think any actor could ever replace the incomparable performance that Yoshi gave. He certainly ranked up there with Paras & Shamar as a fan favorite. 👍🏻👍🏻
The new Phillip has not had enough of a role to get to know him and it is difficult to adjust to a new person. I liked Yoshi's portrayal of Phillip a great deal. I was very disappointed that he left.
I ❤ Philip as portrayed by Yoshi! D New Actor who replaced him now can't even b seen! Unlike Yoshi who s such a Positive Actor! Missed him! Praying dat he will come back to d Chosen!
Reza in his defense has the authentic appearance of the men of the Middle East, and he's not Yoshi, I agree. Yoshi was fantastic, but Reza has authenticity to his credit, and he even acts like the students (from my college days) that were from Pakistan, Iran, and Iraq, India, Lebanon, etc. (similar mannerisms, personality). Dallas Jenkins picked out a realistic replacement. And since Yoshi's acting was so dynamic, Reza is just taking on a background role. Because you don't replace Yoshi. I feel everyone's pain here. I'm midway through Season 4 right now watching this on DVD. I understand.
I'm sad to see him go. His portrayal of Philip was one of my favorite characters. Having said that, even without realizing there were behind-the-scenes differences of opinions, I found myself not liking the subtle change in direction of the character in Season 3. It's interesting to discover that Yoshi didn't care for it either.
Philip was awesome they should not have downplayed his role in the chosen. I think they made a mistake downplaying Phillips's role. I miss Philip in the chosen and I do not like the passive role of the new Philip. All he seems to do is smile he doesn't seem to even play a significant role. Someone messed up here
Also Phillip gets teleported in the book of acts from teaching the Ethiopian official and getting him saved and baptized in quick succession ! Wow! He moves quick with a focused goal and gets it done, like a CEO whew ! Omg Phillip is a great example of a focused apostle doing his work to the fullest, notice Phillip saves everyone he meets who is not saved already wow man he is talented in salvation concept s
Phillip as a follower of John and then Jesus would have been equipped for hardship, pain and loss...he also would have been prepared for what was to come with Jesus as a follower of John....he would have been informed of who and what Jesus was...I think Yoshi portrayal of Phillip was spot on..he would have been the most prepared and the most faithful of the followers with his knowledge.
I'd definitely rather Yoshi. His passion for the role was evident & could be felt through the screen. This is my second time watching the series & I just had to know what happened to "Philip"! He is a good actor & I look forward to his future work❤😇
Yoshi should find a way to work with Dallas and stay as the Phillip, because his personality is better fit for that role... the new Phillips is invisible in the show
I thought Yoshi brought a lot of depth of the character and Phillip was one of my favorites, Im sure the other actor is great but they dont have him being Phillip! Miss Yoshi!!!!!!!!
There has been little of Philip in recent episodes. I’m sure it would have been the same had he still been playing the part. It was authentic that Philip could have some problems when sent out 2x2 and in a completely different environment with following Jesus. Very different from following John…
It’s really sad that he had to go away. I personally loved the way actor portrayed Phillip in the beginning, and I did found strange when his character started to change. Not that it was bad, but strange. I thought maybe that change was because we started to get to know him (character) better, and started to see that he is human, no matter how experienced he was, he still had his flaws. But I guess change was too radical. Anyway I liked him better before, and he didn’t compete with Jonathan’s Jesus, the both looked great and were in harmony.
Yoshi was a secondary character. "For Professional .. " Ok, he is only one in a long line of actors who wanted to move on to the next project." "Creative Differences" He is an actor? He is not the Director or Chief Executive Officer.
Sounds like Yoshi left. Dallas is the creator of The Chosen and his vision is the one that should win out. This video came across like Yoshi didn’t get his vision so he quit. What happened to stretching himself as an actor. I loved Yoshi as Phillip and I will love Reza as well.
I don't think & at this point are that significant! Dallas is the Writer & Producer & is phenomenal at using the gifts God has given him! But, if you want my opinion, sounds like the change in the direction of character for Philip was putting him more in the background & sounds to me Yoshi didn't like that. I honestly dislike videos such as this which aren't necessary & can easily bring about conflict & negativity! Happy Yoshi is growing & moving forward in his career!
I honestly think he was fired. when people in the entertainment industry leave for "personal reasons" more often not that's actually code word for losing there job. With Big James we were given an explanation but for.. Yoshi it's all been "hush hush"
I was disappointed in the way they portrayed Phillip in season 3. It just didn’t seem to align with how they introduced him in season 2. I respect his decision but I do miss him in the show. The new Phillip isn’t as dynamic of a character.
I would guess that the creator of the show, whose material is owned by the author/creator of the show, may have considered the character of Phillip during production. However, when an author crreates something and has all intellectual and copyrights, who is to tell him or her that their project should be according to the opinions of others. If Yoshi wanted to do a different portrayal, why did he agree to be hired and paid by the Dallas production? Let Yoshi do his own project, then. It is ridiculous to tell Picasso his concepts should be different. Likewise, Michaelangelo, Mozart, Beethoven, Gershwin, etc. Each of these artists, brilliant in their own, so my advice: DON'T GO TAKING ANOTHER ARTISTS/AUTHOR/COMPOSER'S WORK AND DECIDE YOU WANT TO EXECUTE OR PRODUCE IT OTHER THAN WHAT THEIR VISION IS. That was Not a wise decision by Yoshi. Sounds like an ego trip dear Yoshi was on and wanted to utilize that platform. Let him be blessed going forward in his own person, creativity right, and talent.
The actor has to bring about the vision of the director. Z struggled woth some of the decisions Dallas made too. Tjomas said he wanted to actone way atthe healing of Laz and Dallas said no, do it this way. Thats whole essence of being actor/director. I know though, based on other actors comments like Quintus, that Dallas gives them a say in the character's portrayal sometimes. But ultimately, if he wished to portray trust in the director, he should have stayed, knowing the heart of Dallas is to honour God and portray His truths as best as he can. I'm disappointed if this video is true, that Yoshi let his opinion get in the way of the show. His departure has left a hole and thats not nice. A little selfish imo
This is just one more of the mistakes that are happening on such a great show. Yoshi was awesome. Can't tell of the replacement is good or not because he hardly has any lines. I wish they would stop with trying to make Mary a Scribe. There is a set of writings that has her name, but she did not write them (they were written 300 years after her death). And, the one that broke my heart was when they have the character of Jesus say, "I am the law of Moses." No, he is the "fulfillment" of the law of Moses. I heard Dallas try to explain that it is essentially the same thing. It isn't. I think that as the show progresses toward moments that actually happened in scripture, I hope Dallas becomes more aware and willing to let the character of Jesus say what is in the scripture on specific topics. I hope that makes sense....
I can’t wait to see what they do with disciples after but it’s a shame that he will not be playing him because I’m sorry I really don’t want to watch the other one. It’s not to be mean that he isn’t just as good. How can I say this wasn’t therewas a blessing that God gave him and he did it. I hope he can understand that you take that the wrong way , I believe the original actor would be better because he would bring more of the character alive. This is important. This isn’t about being all the shows popular that’s great. Let’s change it a little. This is life. This is God this is Christ is changing don’t lose sight of the work his work, his glory but I pray that you always pray and leave you and good blessings shalom.
Yes, Yoshi was much better playing Philip. I was so disappointed when I saw that replacement. Not that he’s not good but he’s not Yoshi. I really miss him.!
9 times out of 10, it comes to ego... A prominent cast member probably kept hearing and seeing Yoshi's popularity increasing. I loved Yoshi as Phillip... He did such a great job.. I can't even compare him to his replacement because he is being so vanilla (probably just what they wanted) that he is just there... I don't know if it was Jonathan, or one of the producers, but one thing is certain... We are all human, and Jesus is of God...
I did really like the Phillip Yoshi presented. But I will respectfully watch Reza for what he brings to the screen. Dallas and the casting team have been spot on with finding actors that can bring all of our beloved disciples out of the pages of the Bible and into our homes and hearts.
In my faith journey I associate well with Philip. Leaving Everything, fasting, following John in the open road, working with spiritual gifts and God's wisdom. Even then, the LORD still gave multiple trials that led me to the direction of fasting an already fasted life. Painful. Because compared to everyone I've done what the LORD said "Crucify your flesh" and I have emptied every lust, pride and longing for this world but LORD still required to crucify further. Tested again and again exposing remaining frustration,. Disappointment in my hurt. Like a purging. What you said about perfect Christian seems plausible. Philip is not yet perfect. He will never be perfect. Only Jesus is perfect. Had his character continued to be the confident, wise one without periods of doubt, it is a door of the devil for pride and hardened heart. Lord always delights in the humble and tjus He always humbles us. Philip being all perfect can discourage other Christians because they will think "we can never be like Philip". I saw the consequence of such scenario in one of the churches I'm associated with. And there is disunity in that church because of one member who is portraying himself like the perfect Philip.
Yoshi has confirmed to me that while there’s biblical truth sprinkled throughout this show, it’s not much in my humble opinion. I will say it’s the best we as Christian’s have as far as a TV show and that’s sad to me. Pple are hungry for shows like The Chosen, but yet there aren’t any that really follow the Bible.
I also don't like the bitter doubt that "The Chosen" has shown in characters such as Peter, Phillip , and Thomas. There is no support in the Bible for those parts. While we know they were weak and grew through their discipleship, we have no evidence that they were so bitter. I'm glad the show does have Peter repenting and becoming a solid leader.
Yoshi portrayed Phillip better than Reza. Both are very good actors, it's just something about Yoshi that draws you in to his portrayal of Phillip that is missing in Reza's acting. It must be very hard to portray biblical scripture and remain divorced from the character at the end of the day. So, if an actor finds himself/herself caught up like that, then how the character is written would be monumental to the actor. I think that's what happened here, Yoshi got too involved in the character and he lost control of his ability to act the character as written. A sad departure.
My comment might affect most people but it's my thoughts and would respect my thoughts. I think Yoshi wanted a role more like of Jesus or something more important. Nothing wrong to desire more.
As a 60 year old male athlete, I liked Yoshi as Phillip the best. He was the 2nd best character on the show. I was extremely disappointed upon his departure & he took a large part of the show with him.
I really wished he could've worked something out for the good of humanity. He was affecting people worldwide.
The new Phillip in Season 4 was almost non-existent. Yoshi was, and is, missed.
Yes new Phillip is not great
That's was intentional in Dallas' writing & seems as though Yoshi didn't want to go to blending in, even though that's what Dallas, the Writer & Producer believes is best for the show & he is very gifted at what he does!
@inspiringmypath7414 read my other responses please.
Exactly
I loved Yoshi. He had more maturity than the other disciples from his years with John the Baptist. He was kind to Matthew which surprised the other disciples. I looked for him in every shot. Yoshi had an energy vibe that no one can copy. The new guy just doesn't have that special kind of vibe that portrays the character of Philip that was introduced. His character has totally changed.
That's because the new guy wasn't given much of a script in Season 4... perhaps he will be given more "life" in season 5
I liked Yoshi and miss him. He had such joy.
I'm very disappointed that Yoshi was replaced. He brought something special to the series and I'm going to miss that.
Loved Yoshi. He stood out in scenes. Sad that he left.
Yoshi definitely defined my vision of the character of Phillip. He is missed greatly.
The Chosen lost one of the best!! Heartbroken 💔 when he left!
I appreciate Yoshi for his integrity in all facets of his life. I wish him well in all of his endeavors.❤
I miss him. He added an attitude that was and is needed to the twelve.
Yeah he was a peacemaker. And that was beautiful. I don’t know why on Earth they decided to make him like a little bit dumber and not interesting. I am really sad that he is not on the show, but I guess that was for Yosshi the only right to do

Yoshi was one of my favorites. I really do miss him being on the show. He played the part so beautifully. You are so missed Yoshi.
I really enjoyed Yoshi as Phillip and missed him in season 4.
I luvd the character Phillip,Yoshi played him very well, will be missed
Hmm, We still don't really know why he departed, but we still miss him. He owned that role.
I loved Yoshi as Phillip.
I loved Yoshi as Philip when he first came onset he had an element about him, none of Jesus followers had. He was tremendous in the “monologues that recked us”. I wish him well in his career and his life. We love you,Yoshi.✝️
I LOVED this actor and am profoundly sad.
Me too!
Loved how Yosji played Phillip. And yes, I noted /he shift in his character in the last svenes he played. I was saddened by it.
Honestly, I think it is immature to bail out because you don't like the direction the creator of the show takes your character. Did he honestly think that Phillip would remain a doubter? Yoshi was better at portraying Phillip than the new guy. MUCH better!
That’s unfair he really hasn’t had an opportunity to say or do much yet

@@bun04y that's exactly right
Phillip was the most experienced apostle
The real reason? It's never stated that he was fired by Dallas.

Yoshi chose this. Respect everyone and give new Phillip a chance. He’s doing a brilliant job. I’ve finished Season 4 and it’s rough but true to form.
True. Reza actually has the look of the men of the Middle East something amazingly! He'll be fine.
We all liked Yoshi. You hate to see this happen.

We shall see season 5 as Dallas has mentioned a more visable Phillip. But I miss Yoshi.
Bring back Yoshi!
I have noticed that there is not a Mark.
I miss him as Phillip, but I think he should have trusted Dallas as creator and trust Gods direction of the show.
Good for him, but I am glad he followed his heart concerning his character. I did wonder why he was replaced.
Bottom line, he was not the creator of the show. He should have followed their directions
Philip also married and had four daughters, in reality.
Yoshi!!!
This stuff is not meant to be public. Clean your dirty laundry in private.
Why was he let go? He was a wonderful positive actor with charisma. The other Philip is not Yoshi. It's not the same.
Yoshi's vision
Why he left he got fired I don't understand
Yup Phillip is the fist evangelist!
My comment might affect most people but it's my thoughts and would respect my thoughts.
I think Yoshi wanted a role more like of Jesus or something more important.
Nothing wrong to desire more.
I prefer Yoshi
I loved Yoshi much better than the new Phillip actor
Reza Diaco looks more like Atticus than Phillip!
