The ant is a Queen fire ant, it got in there from the colony's nuptial flight (when they send their elates the future queens, and male elates to mate then male dies from getting the queen fertilized) and the elates fly out of colony to find a place to build it's own colony. Then it takes its wings off to signify that it has found it's home.
I understand how queens work, but I’m just wondering how the hell it got in there. Also, they spell bad news for the ecosystem if the queen didn’t get merked by a toad or one of the other predators. They are really cool though

Hi, I keep ants as pets in Formicariums and that ant you found is a queen! Not sure on the species but I want to say it’s either of the genus Solenopsis or Camponotus. You might want to start keeping ants in terrariums, because they are great scavengers and hunters and active when the colony gets past the founding stage. Don’t keep fire ants though, because they will probably kill everything in there over time because they can get VERY big and overwhelm animals and insects. And then after they take over the terrarium they will probably escape into your house!
Absolutely love your video !! Especially your Skinks, have not seen them for years Must be an amazing experience watching the ecosystem become alive and every one carrying out their daily duties Thank you for sharing
