    FAQ
The dogs used are generally cross breeds of wolfhounds cross bred with greyhounds. This provides bigger bodies, more power, and a bit more resiliency. That being said, purebred, greyhounds are used sometimes
    and are fantastic hunters.
To those that think we’re laughing about the coyotes being killed that certainly not the case. For what it’s worth, we love the species do enjoy the hunt and see the dogs work. That is the part that is special and exciting to see. Laughing at a coyote being killed isn’t the objective nor what happens. There are many examples that we do let the coyotes go. But if not, they get sold to local fur buyers.
To those that say, we should just take a gun and blast them, that’s just not what we like to do. As humane as some, would, maybe think that would be, I can tell you that we found a lot of coyotes that have had their legs trapped off, their jaws blown off and holes in their bellies and shoulders, and everywhere else. Just because you’re shooting at it doesn’t mean you always get a killshot. But again I’m not here to say one is right or wrong. I’m just saying that’s not our jam. We love to see the dogs work. That’s the number one focus and these dogs love it.
And yes, I’ve thought about making more videos but honestly there’s so many haters on here. I just wanted to document something that I’ve done growing up with my dad. I don’t need any more drama from all the haters.
For the people wondering about why many farmers want coyotes to be killed, in most cases it’s about protecting their calves more than anything. Coyotes love to eat fresh calves, and can wreak havoc on livestock. And yes, it looks like we’re hunting out in cut stubble with no farms around but I assure you these guys know how to go a long ways when there’s calves around and they will find and take them down.
In regards to do the dogs get injured questions. Sure they do sometimes but they are extremely resilient and honestly it’s pretty rare that we need to go to the vet. The greyhound is incredibly capable of going extremely fast, and monitoring the terrain, without being injured in stubble or fields and rocks, and whatever. Keep in mind stubble usually runs in a straight line so they do the same but when they pick their turns, they pick them at full speed they can process that awfully fast, so being injured in a stubble is, well I don’t think it’s ever happened to us. These dogs will run under a fence at full speed which you never really get used to. It’s just fascinating to see that they could do that.
Do they get bit by coyotes? Yes they do. We do train them to go for the neck and if they’re fighting on the neck, they shouldn’t have that problem. Usually when they get it is because they’re biting on the body or the butt which is usually an untrained dog. It usually takes bit a couple times before you realize they should be on the neck. A powerful dog can and will kill on its own but generally it takes a dog or two to do so.
How long does it take for us to get there once a dog catch him? Usually not very long as we’re often close by. we try to get there as quick as possible and if it all possible we’ll let the coyote go or if they have heard it we will quickly dispatch it. I didn’t show that in the video because I knew I’d probably catch enough heat as is just for posting this thing.
As an avid hunter, I rarely even use guns, mostly bow and arrow or a shotgun for birds. I have no problems with anyone who likes to hunt, whatever their style. I would appreciate the gun hunters on here that do you think we should just use a gun and shoot them to consider that guns are never a clean process either. If you’re hunting birds, you’re gonna wound some birds. if you’re hunting big game with rifles, you’re likely to wound some from time to time if you’re fishing, you’re gonna get hooks and fish and you’re gonna likely kill fish that you didn’t intend to. No method is perfect. But the one thing that is amazing is the experience of the outdoors and seeing these dogs work.
Happy hunting to you all. Thanks for enjoying the video.

Now those were the good ole days. I'm not sure if some folks not familiarized w/using Greyhounds for hunting, but we would use anywhere from two to four dogwagons. Of course all equipped w/CBs to coordinate the chase & release.
Bottom line, is it was a fun activity that the whole fam damily could be involved in at the same time. Later, as years went by, stories are ofen shared while sitting around the great room fireplace.

Not necessarily, the idea usually for best results is to mix the breeds on the hunt with the quicker dogs which usually are the ones to bay and keep the prey stationary then release the catch dogs. The south african Boreboel is my preferred breed for coyote and hog hunting. The biteforce of this breed is truly astounding. There was a famous one long ago in africa that had killed 3 adult male lions over the yrs being killed. Y the 4th it encountered. About 2 months back my 2 11 yr old were with Mr on a friend's ranch who'd been having a coyote problem and the smaller of the 2 fully decapitated the coyote with its bite. And the craziest part is he did it in seconds. For getting the kill and not wasting time I feel it's the best breed for catch Dog. I fell in love with the breed after watching a friend's handle a massive hog on its own like it was a piglet. Amazingly strong k9 truly amazing power.

Great to see that someone is keeping it going with the coyote hunts like my great granddad did. He used greyhounds to clear coyotes from ranches around Denver City, Texas and beyond for decades to make his living. He used packs of six or more greyhounds and followed on horseback. He followed behind listening to the hounds barking until he caught up. By the time he caught up, he just clipped the ears of the coyote, stuffed them in a burlap bag, and took off in the direction of the barking again. Those hounds lived to run down coyotes. It was something to behold. I haven't gotten to see that chase in 65 years. It brought tears to my old eyes. Thanks for the memory.

I appreciate his stories a little better now. Of course, the Model T would not keep up with the dogs, but they went as fast as they could to try to save the pelt.

    • @beardstyle
      @beardstyle 6 лет назад +11

one step at a time 08 Actually, their bone structure isn't an issue, it's their thin skin. They are extremely healthy dogs but they can get cut up very easily and bleed terribly. Some coyote hunter will breed greyhounds with labs to help with this issue.

Totally awesome video guys. Hunting 'yotes with greyhounds is one of the most exciting and effective methods on the planet. I've used greyhounds and borzois to catch coyotes and falcons to catch ducks and grouse. No better natural way to do it. Ignore all of these inbred trailer-trash clowns that have nothing better to do than to sit on their computers and puke out all of their anti-crap. One thing for sure ... THEY DON'T COUNT AND NEITHER DO THEIR LAME OPINIONS! Keep up the good work and keep these types of videos posting. The more the better!

I live on my family farm here in western Kansas. I have no problem with this way of hunting if they do it on their own ground. But when i see vehicles hauling ass across our land that we take care of and depend on for making us a living it is very disrespectful. I have caught several hunters doing this and they all get to visit with the local warden. I ask everyone of them if they'd get pissed if I would haul ass through their front yard. Always seems to be an argument. But the law always wins
