If I won a big lottery I'd be buying this tractor along with many others. That tractor looks so much better than the stuff today...plus NO DEF. As a retired heavy equipment operator, there's nothing better than operating BIG HORSEPOWER equipment.
I drove one , 4890 , for a farming operation in the late 70s and loved every minute of it . With the eight tires and narrow roads , it was a real mailbox killer .
I use to know a guy who owned a John Deere 8850 with 8 tires, and he never knocked over a mailbox. It sounds like you lacked proper attention driving 4 wheel tractors when you were on country roads.
Had a 4690 worked near me in the 80s in the uk.Farmer had it brand new.Replaced it with a black and red 4694.Loved watching them work.wish he still had them instead of the two challengers they run now.
Dad bought ours new 9/12/85 the same day my little sister and future brother in law were born in the same hospital. Pretty sure that’s how I met my wife- at the observation window. He would let me drive but then crab the rear steer to joke with me. I would ride on the back ledge until I dozed off and bonked my head on the window then lay on the lower front window and sleep. I started driving it at about 2400 hours and the hour meter quit working at 8500. Good times. I love that tractor.
Hi Jason, That’s a really nice tractor and in good shape as well. Why did J.I. Case used Scania engines in these series? Did you ever filmed or seen a Case 4994?
Great Video, fantastic machine! I was just a young fella in NZ when I first came in contact with case products, we had a case 600 header, i remember seeing a case 1070 at a field day operating, also a contractor operating a 1470 one of the early rigid frame case tractors! watching the use of the crab steer features in this video was interesting! It was shame that center pivot replaced rigid frame basically after the model we are looking at! I don't know anything about the mechanical side of rigid compared with center pivot! History is history thanks for sharing
Case was a great brand. The first farm machine I got to ride in was a Case 1060 combine. The first tractor was a 2470 Traction King. That’s neat you saw a 1470 TK. They are good 4wds.
Hey Jason, I didn't know if you knew about the Iowa country girl farm family. They run a wide variety of allis chalmers tractors and equipment on their farm in Iowa. Then there's Chris Losey. His farm is in Michigan and he runs a wide variety of Oliver and white tractors. Just a couple of suggestions if you're looking for some vintage equipment content.
The torque is definitely important. I use original sales literature from the companies to you list all the specs in horsepower ratings for these videos so I can reflect exactly what they were marketing at the time. unfortunately, very rarely do they list the torque there often focused on PTO and engine horsepower. when they do list torque, I definitely want to include it.
Is it possible for you to film in the cab sometime, if you get the chanse ? Love these old crab-steer-tractors, we dont have many of them here in Sweden
I am a Traction King fan too. The cab on these is hard to film because they are pre-buddy seat machines. There is not much room besides the operators chair. I may have a chance to drive a 4994 in the next year or so. I will defiantly film it while driving.
@@bigtractorpower thank you, it would be very nice to se inside 🙂 I used to work on a small swedish farm before, we had Volvo Bm-tractors, small cabs on those to so i know what you meen... Nice videos anyway 👍👍
I farmed from1993-2000 with a case 2870, same power as this 4894, u do have extra wear points because both axle r built with king pins & u joints on the end of each axle. I pulled a wilrich 10 bottom plow with ease, mine was new about 1979,I was the 2nd owner, the dealer over haul at7500 hrs before I bought it should have included a new engine oil pump which I had to have replaced.
A four-wheel-drive tractor (with 4 wheel and crab steering modes) with 300 engine horsepower for only $100,798 back in the day? That was quite a bargain back then! 😮
It’s kind of a shame that such a genius innovation at the time was nearly lost to history though, as the only example of such innovations coming back to relevance in the 21st century that comes to mind is Claas’ Xerion series which are also considerably more powerful as well
Normal maintenance stuff mostly. Never any major component work. Ours went through a couple rear steering controllers. Hasn’t been started since 2016 but I bet it would fire right up
Sad but positive in the long run. Case IH will turn 40 next year. Unfortunately, neither brand was managed to be able to carry on through the tough economy in the 1980s. If they had not merge, they very well could’ve been sold off in pieces to other companies and simply fold it up. Case IH ensured a parts supply and future products. I am a fan of both brand separately and wish they did not merge but the result has seen a stronger brand.
I have drove a 2870 4-wheel drive and it would pull any you pull behind it.(I mean anything) And it had single Firestone rice&Canes on it that was field weighed front & back 🫣
Yes, THIS is a tractor, a proper Case. None of that mixed marriage junk with IH. Big power for a relatively small tractor, superior steering, and one of the best looking designs for the era.
If I won a big lottery I'd be buying this tractor along with many others. That tractor looks so much better than the stuff today...plus NO DEF. As a retired heavy equipment operator, there's nothing better than operating BIG HORSEPOWER equipment.
Earlier time simpler engine. Easy tear down /rebuild not as expensive. Start at -50F. Most times 😁

Listen , I'd run it down in a ditch to keep from killing some hapless driver , mailboxes are , in my mind , are expendable .
@@wildedog3967 Well, I assumed that either you or the driver would stop, pull to the side, and 'road negotiate' with each other.
That tractor looks great. I prefer the white and black over the ih red. I think you already know about my 4694 and 4994 tractors lol
I was born & raised green (Even worked for them) but the Case 2594 & 4894 are my favorites!
Two stand out tractors. 👍👍
This particular tractor seems to be in excellent condition for its age.
Very nice condition at 40 years old.
I just love the look of the 4894😁👍 great to see one in the field👍👍
I am a Case 4wd fan. This is a nice example of one. Well taken care of.
That's my favorite tractor buddy 👌
The owner (at the time this was filmed) is a real jewel too. You’d love him lol (no sarcasm)
Looks mint hey
@Northern farmer oh gosh yes. Lil Smokeys big brother hahahah
I think it looks better in the white! When we grew up in the 80’s Case 930 was the big Horse on the farm! They were good tractors!
Oh that tractor is just 🤌
Thank you for watching.
Beautiful machine.

That’s a neat classic, the crab walking is neat.
Looks like it has been maintained very well. Still getting it done.
What a beauty. Love the white and poppy red colour a la David Brown
A tractor that should have been far more popular than it was.

Nice 👍
I always liked that color scheme case had.
Great video with the Case4894.
This one was a good find.
I had the opportunity to spend some time in the cab of a few of those back in the day. Thanks for the memories 🙂

Gotta admit it's a tough looking tractor,
Case made a nice line of 4wds.
Best looking Case in my opinion..great video
😁👍👍
Great video!!!

Nice big tractor 👍👍👍

Thanks for horse power and pond feet or foot ponds on torque,, alot of operation do look at that as well thanks

Thank you for the torque rating
It was a rare occasion the brochure listed it. I will give torque if the sales brochures states it. Very few do.

man them tractors would had looked sweet with some fenders on the back wheels
Howdy bigtractorpower
Hi Tugboat.
Case had a lot of innovation back then, when everyone else was going to articulated 4×4.
Anyone know what brand the steering axles were - Clark or Rockwell ?
cool i like the specs could u also give hp and tq at the rated rpm
💪😁👍

Hello! Scania power...
🤠🤠
Yeah there's a few around up here still working, mostly harrows tho
Very cool.
serious $$ for way back then! I have a feeling these tractors would've been maintenance nightmares??
I have never heard of any major issues on a Case other than solenoids going out. They were big sellers in the 70’d and 80’s.
@@bigtractorpower nice info and video. Thank you
Normal maintenance stuff mostly. Never any major component work. Ours went through a couple rear steering controllers. Hasn’t been started since 2016 but I bet it would fire right up
Sure a cool tractor for 300hp worth buying if ya need a tractor with that high of engine hp and don't want to buy new.
Do you planto buy this tractor.
It’s not a v8 and it sold off this farm some time ago. This video is a few years old
Qwantuz hp? ?
É Cummins? ?
It only had 3 reverse speeds. 4th gear was locked out
I wish they had mentioned that in the Case 94 series sales brochure.
Wisconsin Made
Yes, but it would have been all the better if Case would have had their own engine in it, or another U.S. made engine such as Cummins.
How far from Macomb Iii
45 minutes south on 99.
@@bigtractorpower ok thanks I'm in Macomb
This tractor isn’t on that farm anymore. It sold a couple years ago and went out of state. I know the owner
When Case and international merged, all that happened was SCREWING UP TWO GOOD TRACTORS!! SAD DAY!!

Never could understand the engine choice . Seems odd to have a european engine .
when case was serious tractors with real power engine, not now with the bullshit new holland
