Bro, you need to package up the items and weigh them to figure out the shipping costs before you make the listings on ebay. Otherwise you're going to keep losing money. Stop guessing how much it's going to cost you and actually know how much it's going to cost you. Also, stop buying shipping materials like boxes. Go to a dumpster behind a mall or shopping center and you can get boxes, packaging peanuts, and bubble wrap for free. People and companies throw this stuff away every day, why pay for it when you can get it for free.

Selling on sites like eBay is a tough hustle man, way harder than the pros make it seem. Takes a lot of throwing stuff at the wall and seeing what sticks, finding a system and sticking with it.
I built a business on our ebay equivalent a couple of years back and my wife now runs it from home allowing her to be a stay at home mum with our daughter. Took about 20k of stock to create $500/week profit for 1-2 hours a day. Makes a little less now as we've scaled it down since our daughter was born.
Keep up the great content Reyes - you inspired me to start my channel after a couple of years of doubting whether my message was something people wanted to hear, so, thanks, my man.
P.S. Don't buy boxes, grab them from the cardboard recycling behind your nearest big box store. Also, I call our staple products bread and butter as well haha.

Hey Reyes, I’ve done eBay for some time and I’ve learned a couple things.
    2:05 Snoopy Sno-cone machine:
    Paid $7.99
If you sell for $20 you’ll break-even after shipping and might lose a little on fees since it’s big and likely over a pound. You can always return items when you find yourself in these situations.
    6:40 Summer Infant Fold Away
    Paid $6
    Expected sale: $28
Be cautious with shipping items large & over a pound. Shipping could easily be $12+ and finding packaging to ship it in could be time consuming or making your own box.
    12:19 The $6.50 box
I’ve been there before. Walmart offers great boxes for under a dollar the same size & quality.
My biggest advice for this vid: USE calculated shipping so you don’t get burnt! Also if you’re in a situation where you had to ship that globe for so much, you could have cancelled the order so you don’t take the loss. Just make sure to be honest with the buyer about the cancellation. Don’t be scared of big items if they have $20+ of profit if you use calculated shipping!
Use eBay to buy/print labels since you get commercial cost which are cheaper than going to the post office.
Best of luck REYES!!! - Ivan

nice advises man, but i have a question about calculated shipping, if he does it online could they be different when he gets to postoffice?
Wouldnt it be more safer if he goes to postoffice and ask the cashier for exact nr? even this might not be 100% sure but i think atleast 90% ?
Cause he used in internet calculated shipping and it came out cheaper than the actual shipping price that went up.

    • @ivanproductions
      @ivanproductions 5 лет назад +1

keram1233 If you use calculated shipping and pay/print the postage with eBay instead of purchasing at the post office it will 100% always be accurate or cost less. eBay postage saves a ton. The $66 package in this vid would have costed around $45 through eBay.

  • @ArmandoGore
    @ArmandoGore 5 лет назад +26

bro omg you save money if you purchase the shipping labels from ebay and not buy it from the postal office. you wasted more for doing that. 2nd you can ship either fedex or usps via ebay and you should of shipped that globe via fedex it would of been cheaper than the postal office. ouch! ive been seller for over 3 year on ebay so if you have any other questions please let me know lol I don’t want you to make more mistakes!!!

Yes, there is always a cheaper way to ship than going directly through the company. I cringe every time I'm waiting in line and hear the quotes they are giving to people to ship stuff. Also, you can ship UPS through PayPal with a discount. Just go into PayPal and select that transaction and there is a shipping option. Another option is to use Pirate ship for smaller items that are heavy. Pirate ship allows you to use cubic rates which can cut your cost by quite a bit. Hopefully, eBay integrates cubic rates eventually.

Don't be afraid of big items. They can have HUGE rewards if you pick right & people are willing to pay high shipping on desirable items. Just take the time to measure & weigh them. That way you can add the correct shipping. 4. Do your shipping through ebay. You get a nice percentage off compared to taking it into the post office. Keep up the great work & good luck.

Always appreciate the videos and the Free.99 help. I watch all the time. Wondering how long ago this video is from? I know you just posted, but references in it seem older. Stamps at $0.50 and the weight of First Class to Priority change a long time ago to 13oz. Yes the USPS is sticking it to us all the time. If you're still doing stuff like this, check out the Regional Boxes - they can sometimes be cheaper than all other options.

Not sure if anyone has told you but you cannot go off the new price especially if you are buying used items. They way we do it is look up the item do advanced search click used, completed sales, sold. Then figure out what profit from there, if you use ebay to buy the shipping label they will cut you a bit of a break. You can use flare rate shipping so you kind of know how much to factor in for shipping as well as have the usps deliver you flate rate boxes for free!.

Hey Reyes. Love your vids. I have a few tips when shipping. Now I don't sell on eBay, but I do custom orders via IG. Biggest help with profits was buying my own packaging and a postal scale. It saves the most time with post office visits. Also, consider scheduling package pickups with USPS. It saves on gas and the service is free. Create your shipping labels through Paypal. When using your own packaging, versus USPS materials, you save money. Shipping is a big part of profits. It should be a key factor in the early stage of determining prices for the things you sell online. Hope that helps :)

You pay retail rate when you go to the post office so it's always more expensive there. You should also always use eBay, PayPal shipping, or another online service to print your postage since they give you a discount and it ends up being cheaper than going to the post office. Also, use the "First-Class Mail Parcel service (2-5 days)
Package/Thick Envelope" option when you can or media mail for books, CDs, and DVDs. It's cheaper than other types of postage, includes tracking, and gets your item there in about the same amount of time. You should also always use the smallest box you can to ship something in too. For non-fragile items, you only want to have about 1-2 inches around them to put filler. For fragile items like things made of glass and similar materials, you still only need 3-4 inches around them to put bubble wrap and filler. They make box resizers, but you can just cut the box down to the right size and tape it. Once something gets bigger than a large envelope or flat rate box, the carriers start charging more for every inch bigger it is in any direction, as well as for weight.

USPS first class mail maxes out at 13oz, anything heavier has to go by priority. Fedex is cheaper than UPS for large things. UPS is better when you're shipping a huge amount because they give deep discounts to large customers. Also, remember to check the shippings costs before listing, not after..... Keep it up man, it's hard at first but you slowly start to learn what sells and it gets better. I don't know if you've got a Fry's electronics around, but they have a lot of open box and clearance electronics that can be pretty profitable, that's how I started out back in the day.

That’s how you learn Reyes. I always got hammered on the shipping. Check with your local Goodwill on return policies. I get 7 days here in Phoenix. Take the items home, box it up as you would mail it off (in the package & weigh it), enter the zip codes like I mentioned before (east coast to west coast to get worst case scenario) then list with that shipping price to the buyer or add it on to your bottom line and say free shipping. Run a three day auction and of it doesn’t sell, return it to Goodwill. 😂Check out my very old eBay/Goodwill videos by searching for Phoenix Picker. That’s my old channel where I was having fun selling on eBay. I still do to this day but stopped making videos. Keep your head up and feel free to hit me up if you have questions.

Hey, I lost money on the first large item I shipped. It is a hard lesson to learn, but you had to learn it somehow. Also, do not rely on eBay's estimated costs (you can check that when listing the item) because it can screw you over. I estimated shipping on a 78-pound item and charged that rate to the customer. When it came to shipping the item, it would not allow me to ship it because FedEx's maximum weight is 70 pounds (at least through eBay). The estimated shipping cost function did not inform of that restriction. I had to ship it through Paypal and UPS and the cost was double what eBay quoted me.

I recommend trying to categorize the items you want to sell. For example, try to look for deals on things you’re most familiar and hold your most interest. You’d be able to understand the market for those items much more. That’s what I do and I think it’s better than just looking around for random items you have a chance selling, better to know you’re going to sell it and for how much than to just guess and check with everything you see. Just a thought! Love the content and entrepreneurship 👍

A big part of Ebay is understanding shipping, everything gets easier after that. And unluckily, shipping just changed in january so we are all still getting used to it. There is no more "under a pound equals XXX" anymore because they changed first class shipping to zones around the US. Now, the further you ship it the more it costs even for first class, which wasn't the case before. If something is over 1 pound it will be MINIMUM 7.33 to ship. That is using flat rate padded envelopes. I sell mostly clothes, most shirts can be shipped for less than 4.5, but sweatshirts that are heavy always cost me 7.33 to ship. This is 95% of the shipping probably, first class and padded flat rate. It gets much more complex when you get into bigger box shapes, because there is different options and if something is big but not heavy you might want a certain option, but its like 12 x 12 inches but pretty heavy, its going to cost more. I would mess around with some "ebay shipping calculators" online and punch in some numbers so that you can see what it will cost to ship. Small things like video games and mens silk ties cost about 2.66 to ship. Fitness shirts like under armour, lululemons, nike, all that stuff is light and usually like 3.50 to ship. I sell womens jeans too, 7.33 to ship. Idk, I know I kind of bounced around but I hope you get the point. Its hard to lose money if you know what you product cost and your shipping cost will be. Best of luck brother, love your great attitude. Listening to you makes me reflect on my pessimism... seeing you do shit work at mcdonalds and be so happy to do it, I like that. Keep it up man.

Hey Reyessss...if you're going to pick clothing & shoes for your niche - go online and order free Priority supplies from USPS (bubble mailers, flat rate boxes, shoe boxes) and keep a good supply on hand. If you offer "Standard Shipping" and an order goes over the 1 lb. (1st Class) weight - "upgrade" your customer to Priority Shipping in the Flat Rate bubble mailer or box if the costs are close. Try ULine or Global Industrial for other shipping boxes. Many times you can ship in your own boxes for less than the Flat Rate boxes. Try Pirate Ship for good shipping rates. Those poly bags are great - make sure you buy the 14 1/2" x 19" (in go the shirts, etc. - then fold it in half and seal it). Also - since the shipping rates have taken a huge increase, I only use calculated shipping now (and I add $.60 to cover shipping supplies). For those items needing smaller envelopes - Dollar Tree carries a 6"x9" package of 6 clasp envelopes for...you guessed it...only $1.00

16oz or less for USPS First Class Mail. Also they're called packing peanuts. lol Love the content Reyes! Also when shipping bubble mailers or poly-bags, you do not need to enter the package dimensions, that is for shipping boxes; just check Irregular Package Size.

Just a quick tip: You can make waaay more profit margins by shipping Economy/First Class on orders weighing above 1 lb. You have to use outside labels tho, as eBay doesnt have thm. Its so funny seeing you spend all this money for Priority when you dont need it haha.

I know a guy that sells classic tees he gets from thrift stores. He some how gets like $300 for old Tupac shirts and old tour shirts for bands. Look for stuff like that. There’s some on eBay right now from $200-$400. Find the shirts that are worth something cheap, spend $20 at most flip for $300. Shipping is an envelope flat rate for $5. So you’re all of $25 and can make a possible $150 or more after fees.
