The M18 Hellcat is one of the best flanking tanks in War Thunder but it does lack firepower sometimes. The premium Super Hellcat fixes that by taking the turret and weaponry of the M36 Jackson. It is very fun, especially after it was buffed shortly before the BR changes, but it is a bit of a sidegrade.

How much of a problem is that type of TKing? Is there anything you can do about it after the match, even if it only gets the player a warning? It seems particularly unfair.

My only nuke was a game where I spawned with the super Hellcat, died within 20 seconds, then skirted around the entire flank with a normal m18. Great tank.
Classic "i want to play on this tank but i died instantly in it so i respawned in an another tank and for some reason wipe the enemy with it".

had this exact experience when trying to spade the leopard 2a5, died in the first like, 40 secs of the match, respawned with the pt 16/T14(goat) and obliterated the enemy team, 13 kills 2 assists

@@alarminglyfastmovingskelet7289 It depends on whether or not your opponent is intelligent enough to aim above the main "hull" (for lack of a better term for a weaponized airport baggage cart). You can take some surprising shots to the lower face, but anything in the middle will just vaporize your whole crew.

From the research I’ve done
The commanders who disliked the M18 tended to misuse them
Attempting to use them like the soviets would use their TD’s or as the Germans would use their panthers
The M18 was always meant as a flanking tool, its mobility and light weight meant it could attack from locations that the enemy just didn’t expect
The M18 was loved by the men who used them properly, and the vehicle had a fantastic career, with hundreds of Panzer 4’s and Stug 3’s and 4’s destroyed
The battle of Arracourt was a great example of the effectiveness of the M18 hellcat
3 M18’s were lost to 14 Panzer 4’s
All the while being outnumbered
The m18 was incredibly effective up to the panther and tiger 1
But those were rare on the western front
And even more so, rare that they wouldn’t have an opportunity to flank the enemy
All in all, it has a decorated history, kinda muddied by commanders who Ill understood the weapons they were given
from what i have read they were also liked in the infantry support role as they could follow infantry to places shermans couldn't go. with the main complaints in that role being no co-axe or roof.
I read very similar stuff about the M18. I also read that tankers knew that regardless of the tank they were engaging it was most likely able to penetrate so the lack of armor wasn’t really an issue.
This, this is why I love some people in the tank community
M18s were intended to race to positions and prepare in reaction to an enemy attack, they were not intended to go racing around the frontlines to the flanks. Indeed, thats precisely the sort of thing you want a lot of armour for, as you will encounter AT guns around the enemy frontlines.
GMCs like the M18 and M10 should be thought of as AT guns that can quickly locate themselves, not as offensive weapons in their own right
Eh i mean the m18's neat but there's a defense for the commanders who wanted something on par with a panther or a soviet TD and instead got...another vehicle with mid armor.

US TD policy was to sit and guard important stuff and they did that pretty well, such as the battle of arrocourt where 120 German tanks got completely bodied.

I have to say, I've been really enjoying the editing recently. Specially those in-game bits at the beggining while you go over the vehicle's features always make me chuckle.
I've played with spacebar as main cannon fire just for those pin point shots that you dont want the left click to fuck up. Works great!

They could fix the fuse for aphe so it explodes at the proper spot and has the correct fuse moments.

The long 90 on the M26E1 should be pretty good Gaijin gave it has an unnecessary long reload too. The other US long 90mms were more like prototypes.

That Tiger II H whose side skirt ate your round reminded me of the first one I killed in War Thunder. It was one of my first games in the 75 Jumbo, and he pushed my position along a ridge on Normandy beach. Embracing my inner gremlin, I shot his barrel and both tracks before flanking and putting one into his ammo rack. I was laughing maniacally the entire time. Good memory.
Super hellcat is one of my two favourite tanks.
Absolute gremlin, the mobility plus the seriously powerful gun make it an incredibly potent machine. I love it
I'm pretty sure that before the ammo rework, solid AP had more penetration than APHE. But then their magic number crunching somehow ended up with the ammo with less metal having more penetration.

If M18 was a bit more prevalent in terms of production, we could have ended up seeing modifications with french 105mm, "french" 75mm and maybe even italian 60mm. Or with ATGMs.
17th time challenging Spookston to bring the Char 25t into an 8.3 lineup, and then incrementally increase the BR to find when the tank becomes unironically unplayable.

Btw, that shot to the side of the Tiger 2 seems to be legit. I have seen many simulations of that exact scenario, and essentially, you are trying to shoot along the track overhang plate, which is why game counts nonpen.
(The round would probably deflect in reality, and fuck up the track)

I got this for the last 50% off sale and its been my favorite US tank as of yet. Always loved the U.S. 90mm and have loved the M18 ever since I first read about it as a young boy. So its perfect
Funny how fast this hand cranked M36 turret rotates on a M18 chassis , some nations have no downsides at some fancy paper/prototype tanks .

7:40 I think Tiger should have little armor between crew and engine compartment, but now it seems to have just a plate with 0mm effective thickness over there. Seems to be a common issue with WWII era tanks, but often you'll hit engine, raditor or fuel with what you have available.
Seeing that friendly Type 60 SPRG (C) made me smile, as does hearing Hellcats being buffed.

Attempt 17 Challenge: For high tier support a nations MBT with its respective APC/IFV counterpart (ie Abrams/Bradley, T90/BMP2M, etc.) Challenge is keeping the other player alive and supporting it without stealing kills (breaking barrels, tracking, repairing, etc) it being a random should help make it interesting.

I just unlocked the m47 105 from Italy at 7.7, and it is a BEAST with its insane pen and decent mobility, couldn't recommend it less.
