Good video, still have my RCA camcorder that I remember buying from Walmart back in May of 2000. Last time I remember using it before it sat with a pile of old things I had in the shed was when I graduated highschool in 2002. I remember testing it and still works, one of the nickel cadmium batteries still holds a charge for about an hour even after 19 years. BTW, my camcorder has two ways to see what your recording, through the viewfinder, or through the little popup LCD screen that it has on the side. Still seems too record fine to vhs c tapes and also bring able to playback your recorded video.

My family had an old Sears camcorder from the 80s from the time I was around 3 until I was 15. It hooked into a VCR and wasn't portable unless you bought the extra "portable" VCR from the 80s that went with it (which probably weighed around 10 lbs. It wasn't until Christmas of '99 that my family actually got a "portable" camcorder from Sears. I think it was a Samsung 8mm camcorder. It was big move going from a camcorder that had to be 6 feet from a VCR to one that you could use and walk around the house.

How did you get the footage from the tape to digital? I've seen many ways to do it online but your video and audio are some of the best I've come across.

You have inspired me to get a mini DV camcorder like my dad had in the mid 90's. I don't know what I'll use it for, but when I have do it will be a case of having a hammer and finding some nails!
Love your channel and keep up the good work. Best wishes.

I may be late but Dayton's was a department store that was founded in Minneapolis, Minnesota. You might not of heard of Dayton’s but you might of heard of the discount chain that Dayton’s founded in 1962. That chain was Target which still exists. Dayton’s merged with Detroit based Hudson’s in 1969 to become the Dayton-Hudson Corporation and that was renamed as Target Corporation in 2000. Dayton’s became Marshall Field's in 2001 after Marshall Field's got acquired by Dayton-Hudson Corporation in 1990. In 2004 Marshall Field's was sold by Target Corporation to May Department Stores. May Department Stores subsequently merged with Macy’s in 2005 and Marshall Field's got renamed Macy’s.

My parents got a camcorder back in 1995 and it still works, but it’s not at our house anymore because my aunt is digitizing our videos too

Great video, I love watching VCR / tape camcorder videos. Too bad for the viewfinder, those vintage camcorders nowadays are likely to have sudden failures like it happened here, something like that has happened to me. The capacitors are to blame.

What kind of tapes can be used in this camcorder? I have one jvc vhs-c 30 that i thought would fit in it but apparently it doesn't.

Hi! I recently found this JVC GR-AXM80U in an alley in my neighborhood. I’m trying to get it working and can’t figure out the type of cassette tapes this model takes. Thanks!
