- Happy National Train Day to all! I know Amtrak renamed it as Amtrak Train Day but you know what? Amtrak is not the only railroad here in the US.
Anyway, here's a video of Union Pacific trains at CP East Redondo in Los Angeles, California including UP 8174 - Big Red Express unit, double stack container trains, manifest, Metrolink, Amtrak Southwest Chief & Pacific Surfliner, UPY Genset.
UPDATE on 9/6/15: UP 8174 has no longer "Big Red" stickers. So, it's nothing special....

Fresno's got canceled today. Boooo! Went all the way down there for it too. Got to see a lot of freights UP and BNSF so it wasn't a total waste.

What does a flashing red mean?
a flashing red means that the signal is on a very elevated climb that is still elevating,,, that permits the engineer to pass the signal at RESTRICTED SPEED,,,, WITHOUT COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP,,, THE ENGINEER CAN CONTINUE TO CLIME THE ELEVATED/CURVE,,, BECAUSE STOPPING,,, CAUSES EXTENSIVE FUEL WASTE,,, WEAR ON THE RAILS,,, AND POSSIBLE LAYING COME PLEATLY DOWN AND NOT ABLE TO REGAIN MOMENTUM,,, so they will need a assistant engines to help climb the incline,,, helper engines,,, or pulling a knuckle out of a high TONNAGE coal car or GRAIN,concrete,ballast,tanker,,,, THE FLASHING RED IS A PERMISSIVE RESTRICTIVE GO AHEAD AND PROCEED WITH CAUTION,,,BEING ABLE TO STOP WITHIN HALF OF THE VISUAL OBSTRUCTION,,,
