I can totally relate. I also moved to Germany with the intention to stay here for only one here. 5 years later and it's one of the best decisions i ever made.

I can apprechiate so much of what you said :) ill ramble here and ill say In my late 20s i moved to Japan and South Korea for almost 2 years to help animals and to enjoy the culture of Asia by myself. Iv been mentally ill with BPD and depression since i was a child, so this was so very hard to do as i really dislike and fear people,im painfully shy and my mum and pets are my all so being away from them was tough, but it really was so rewarding in many ways just as it is for you and many others too and it did wonders for my mental health. The important thing is to go and enjoy it, not fear it, do your best and its important to learn the lingo of where you want to live as it shows respect to the country and culture, the people will really admire your effort to speak their language, even if we might make mistakes! Now im close to 40 i look back at those times with joy and pride with all i learned and thankful too. i wish the best of luck for you and many others going to do the same!

Just moving 4 hours away to a new state has done this to me. Now that I've been here 10 years, I don't feel like I belong in either place.

It’s a real struggle, and it’s strange that often we’re not conscious that this will happen before we move!
